Giants O-line is Expensive and Awful

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Herman Edwards never coached the New York Giants. It doesn't matter much. Gotham's media (and NFL Films) had one heck of a time with one of his most memorable soundbites while leading the crosstown NY Jets. "You play to win the game". Everyone remembers the expression on his face. Some even remember where they were when they heard him say it. New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys Photo by/Newsweek/Getty Images Fast forward to the present. Neither the Giants or Jets are winning very often these days. Both are losing for many of the same reasons. The lack of a true franchise signal-caller... Little to no imagination on offense... Constant offensive line rebuilds that never seem to reach their completion... Looking for a little insult for those injuries? Here's the worst part. More news: New York Giants Shuffle the Deck in Their Scouting Department The Jets may finally have an O-line they can be proud of. Meanwhile, Big Blue has seemingly only created a bigger bill for itself. The Giants have one of the least-talented and most expensive offensive lines in the entire NFL There's an old NFL proverb that suggests games are won and lost in the trenches. It's a tried and true theory that has proven true for decades, one that the G-Men refuse to learn. To make matters worse, they've had to watch the hated Philadelphia Eagles master this. By doing so, Philly has appeared in three Super Bowls during an eight-year span, and twice, they have brought home the Vince Lombardi Trophy. More news: Giants Legend Michael Strahan Makes Strong Taylor Swift Statement Thanks to a mixture of free-agent band-aids, projects, and injury replacements, New York is stuck in neutral despite, somehow, being home to one of pro football's three most expensive offensive lines. Teams sparing no expense to keep their QBs upright 🛡️ H/T @Jason_OTC — The 33rd Team (@The33rdTeamFB) June 1, 2025 Okay, let's be fair. The Giants have tried to upgrade their offensive front. Andrew Thomas has looked good when healthy. He just can't stay on the field. Evan Neal was supposed to be a part of the upgrade. Most draft scouts gave him favorable and first-round grades. He simply hasn't provided what New York has hoped he would. Neal was selected to play tackle. Now, he's competing for a chance to play guard after his fifth-year option was declined. Jon Runyan was a 2024 free-agent acquisition, but his most recent season ended with injury. Fingers are crossed that John Michael Schmitz may take a leap. He probably won't if one is seeking an honest opinion. Jermaine Eluemunor occasionally showed flashes at right tackle, but he was moved to the left side of the formation out of necessity. Aaron Stinnie and Greg Van Roten were added during free agency. Marcus Mbow was drafted. There's no point in fibbing. This is a very concerning unit. The goal is to stay out of the NFC East's cellar, avoid catastrophe, and, hopefully, keep Russell Wilson and crew vertical. Unfortunately, they need better play out of their O-line to accomplish that. The running game wasn't awful, but Big Blue often found itself in a hole. That made throwing the ball a necessity and often rendered the rushing attack useless. More news: Giants QB Jaxson Dart Receives New 2025 Starting Prediction It's a make-or-break season for Brian Daboll. It's a make-or-break year for Joe Schoen. Heck, it's do-or-die time for this entire organization. A deep postseason run probably isn't in this team's immediate future. Still, a few wins and, maybe, some lucky breaks can begin steering this ship in the right direction. Honestly, anything that will make this fan base smile will be appreciated.

FBI's CIA Spinoff Is A Go, And They Found The Most Devilish Leading Man I Can Think Of

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Despite sending its first two spinoffs to the graveyard of shows canceled in 2025 — R.I.P. FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted — CBS' G-Men franchise is growing larger thanks to the imminent arrival of the alphabetical offshoot previously titled FBI: CIA. Fans questioned the project's need to exist in place of the other established series, but it looks like all involved are feeling quite bullish about the new concept's chances, with two big updates cementing the spinoff's future. Network execs appear to have made a big call with the new project, with Deadline reporting that CBS is officially moving forward with a straight-to-series order for the drama offshoot, meaning it's now confirmed to be joining the mothership series during the Fall 2025 TV schedule. At this point, details are fairly few and far between, so it's not clear exactly how many episodes will be produced from the jump, and whether or not the option for more eps will be in place. But we do know that CBS may be cutting the FBI connective tissue out of the title to simply call the new drama CIA. The new show is the creation of David Hudgins (FBI: Most Wanted), Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy), and former CIA officer David Chasteen. It'll follow two partners with opposing personalities, with one being an impulsive rule-breaking CIA officer, and the other being a meticulous rule-following FBI agent, who are assigned to work out of the CIA's New York Station, where they must work through their differences to catch and/or thwart dangerous threats. The initial CIA plan was to build it into FBI proper as a backdoor pilot, with the two main characters and a third lead meant to be introduced into one of the current season's installments. That plan was delayed and reconfigured a couple of times due to a lack of casting decisions, and then the backdoor pilot idea was avoided entirely in place of a straightforward order. No more casting delays now, though, at least when it comes to locking down the CIA officer side of the new show's duo. For that role, the Dick Wolf-produced drama has cast Tom Ellis, who is arguably best known for his years of portraying the devil himself across six seasons of Lucifer. (Which altered its ending and jumped to Netflix after Fox canceled it three seasons in.) Ellis will be portraying the less rigid member of the pair, and is described as being a fast-talking loose cannon. Both things that I can easily see the UK actor portraying without stretching his talents too far. Add in a heaping dose of "self-satisfied snark," and it's essentially Lucifer Morningstar with a badge. Interestingly enough, Tom Ellis was attached to CIA casting reports starting around February, and they seemed to dissipate after a month or so of negotiations. Apparently something changed behind the scenes that was positive enough to sway Ellis to sign on. And once he was confirmed to be on board, CBS was reportedly more eager to work out the series order details. Stay tuned for more casting details for the new CIA spinoff to learn who will be tamping down Tom Ellis' rambunctious behavior when the new show kicks off this fall on CBS.

New York Giants schedule: Games, dates, TV channels, predictions for 2025 season Show Caption Hide Caption Giants select Abdul Carter No. X overall, here's what they'll get Penn State's Abdul Carter has been selected No. 3 by the New York Giants and USA TODAY Sports' Tyler Dragon breaks down his game. Sports Pulse The New York Giants have been in quarterback purgatory since Eli Manning retired following the 2019 season. "Big Blue" took a swing on Daniel Jones, but things went sideways. They opted to sign the passer to a four-year extension instead of re-signing Saquon Barkley. Jones failed to make it through the second season of the $160 million deal and Barkley went on to win 2024 Offensive Player of the Year and the Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles. Meanwhile, New York used three different quarterbacks in 2024: Jones, Drew Lock, and Tommy DeVito, with a fourth, Tim Boyle playing off the bench in one game last season. The Giants finished with a record of 3-14 last season and landed the No. 3 overall pick. Giants general manager Joe Schoen immediately made moves to upgrade the quarterback room, signing free agent veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. Additionally, they made a splash by trading back into the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft to select quarterback Jaxson Dart from Ole Miss. With the moves, the Giants are hoping the talent under center will be much improved. Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll remain on the hot seat but are hitching their wagon to these three quarterbacks. Daboll named Wilson the starter and Winston the backup to allow Dart time to develop and learn the speed of the NFL game. What teams do the "G-Men" play this season? The defense could finish inside the top 10 with an impressive front seven comprised of Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Abdul Carter. The secondary also got a facelift with playmakers in Adebo and Holland. The biggest issue for the G-Men is the NFC East. The division has the defending Super Bowl champions (Eagles) and the NFC runners-up (Commanders), who New York will have to face a combined four times. The Cowboys also return a much healthier roster in 2025 ensuring those two meetings will be no cakewalk. The offense will likely see leadership and improved playmakers under center, with Russell Wilson expected to get the first stab at the starting job. The 13-year vet started 11 games with the Steelers in 2024, completing 63.7% of his passes for 2,482 yards and 16 touchdowns. He posted a QBR of 51.4 (22nd), but the offense bottomed out in the last month of the regular season. Wilson is not the same player who took the league by storm in Seattle, but he remains one of the NFL's better deep-ball passers. He had a league-high 56% adjusted completion rate on throws of 20 or more yards in 2024. He led the Steelers to a 6-1 record in his first seven games before losing the final five games, including a playoff loss. Even if Winston takes the reigns, the likelihood of the Giants winning over half of a dozen games remains slim. Winston went 2-5 as a starter last year with the Browns, throwing 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in those games. Dart will need time to develop before taking over, and it's unlikely he would outduel the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Jared Goff, Jordan Love, Justin Herbert or Bo Nix in his first year, even if he does play. The Giants own the toughest schedule in the league, per Sharp Football Analysis; Six of their eight home opponents were playoff teams in 2024. Their matchups against the 49ers, Raiders, Patriots and Saints could all be winnable, but three of those come on the road. New York probably isn't ready to challenge for a playoff spot in 2025, but the team should be more competitive than last season. It wouldn't be surprising to see the Giants finish close to .500, as they could field one of the better defenses in the league. It's more likely they will finish at the bottom of the NFC East for the third time in five seasons. New York Giants to sign free agent quarterback Russell Wilson

The New York Giants are signing a Super Bowl-winning free agent quarterback to the roster. And despite rumors, it's not Aaron Rodgers. The G-Men will sign Russell Wilson, according to league sources, who tell CNN 'the agreement is done.' The deal was first reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter, who says that Wilson will sign a one-year contract worth up to $21 million with $10.5 million guaranteed. Wilson later confirmed the news, posting a photograph of MetLife Stadium to X, tagging the Giants with the caption, 'Been here before… can't wait to do it again.' The 36-year-old Wilson will be entering his 14th season in the NFL this fall. Wilson played the first 10 seasons of his career with the Seattle Seahawks, where he was instrumental in leading the Seahawks to their only championship at Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014. The 10-time Pro-Bowler joined the Denver Broncos prior to the 2022, but he couldn't find the success in the Mile High City that he enjoyed in Seattle. With Wilson under center, the Broncos missed the postseason in 2022 and 2023. After the 2023 season, Wilson signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He began the season with an injured calf, but took over the starting role in October and led the team to victory in six of his first seven games at quarterback. The Steelers stumbled down the stretch however, losing four consecutive games to finish the regular season. Pittsburgh still managed to make the playoffs, but were knocked out in the Wild Card round by the rival Baltimore Ravens. Been here before… can't wait to do it again. #MetLife @Giants The Giants have struggled to find consistency from the quarterback position since the retirement of Eli Manning following the 2019 season, and the Giants have only made two playoff appearances since 2011. The signing of Wilson comes just four days after the Giants signed quarterback Jameis Winston, who started seven games for the Cleveland Browns last year.
