Haritha Berm Park comes alive as over 300 youth take part in floor painting contest
Over 300 youth and children participated in the 'floor painting' and drawing competitions, organised jointly by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation and the NTR district administration, on the banks of the Krishna river at Haritha Berm Park in the city on Sunday (July 13). NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha, who also tried his hand at painting along with his wife and children, said the competitions, held on themes of Say No To Single-Use Plastic, Swarnandhra Vision, Harithandhra, Public Private People Partnership, Save Water and Reduce-Reuse-Recycle, were organised to raise awareness among the children about the ill-effects of plastic and to foster habits that are important for environmental protection. Noting with happiness at the huge turnout, Mr. Lakshmisha said the real winner in the competitions is the city, which came alive on Sunday morning. Impressed by the enthusiasm shown by the youth, the Collector announced that programmes such as photography, yoga and swimming contests would be organised every week at the park and also in other tourist destinations in the district, including Pavitra Sangamam at Ibrahimpatnam, Kondapalli Fort and Gandhi Hill. Urging people to participate in large numbers, he said bird photography competitions would also be organised on the Bhavani Island. Such programmes would help children make the most of their holidays and also propel them to think creatively. After congratulating VMC Commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra and other officials on making it to the Swachh Super League, the Collector presented awards to winners. While G. Tanuja's painting on Swarnandhra-Save Water stood first in the floor painting category, the second went to P. Yamini and the third to V. Jaswanthi and fourth to M. Suresh. Cash prizes of ₹10,000, ₹7,500, ₹5,000 and ₹3,000 were given.

Krishna Riverfront comes alive with colours of change and civic pride
Vijayawada: The Krishna Riverfront transformed into a canvas of creativity on Sunday morning as over 300 children and youth gathered at Haritha Beram Park for a vibrant floor painting and drawing competition. With themes such as Swarna Andhra Vision @ 2047, Say No to Single-Use Plastic, Swachh Andhra, Save Water, and Reduce-Reuse-Recycle, participants unleashed their imagination in a colourful celebration of responsibility and hope. District Collector Dr. G. Lakshmisha praised the young artists, saying, "These paintings reflect the spirit of a vibrant Vijayawada and are the first brushstrokes toward our 2047 vision. " The event marked the beginning of weekly creative activities at Haritha Beram Park to engage both locals and tourists. VMC Commissioner Dhyanachandra HM announced a series of upcoming programs including photography, yoga, swimming, and birdwatching competitions at Bhavani Island, along with similar initiatives at Pavitra Sangamam, Kondapalli Fort, and Gandhi Hill. Winners were felicitated by the Collector and Commissioner. In the floor painting category, G. Tanuja won first prize for her painting on "Swarna Andhra Vision - Save Water," earning Rs 10,000. P. Yamini Visala, V. Jaswanthi, and M. Suresh secured the second to fourth places respectively. In the drawing category, M.S. Vaishnavi secured the top spot, with Rahil Jayan, G. Bhashyasri, and Laksh Jain following. Art experts P. Chidambareswara Rao, Kalasagar, and others served as judges. Officials from tourism, health, and civic departments also participated. Dr. Lakshmisha congratulated citizens and officials on Vijayawada's recent Super Swachhta League Award in Swachh Survekshan-2024.

Vijayawada will be developed as a tourist hub with grand celebrations during Dasara Utsavams, says NTR District Collector
The State government is planning to develop Vijayawada, the gateway to Amaravati, as a tourist hub. Vijayawada will be decked up as 'City of Victory' by improving the tourism projects, said NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha. Participating in the 'Yogandhra Success Meet' organised here on Friday, Mr. Lakshmisha said that Vijayawada Utsav will be celebrated on a grand scale during Dasara Utsavams. Vijayawada city will be decked up for the utsavams. All the junctions, Prakasam barrage, main roads and temples would be illuminated during Dasara Maharatri Utsavams, the Collector said. Highlighting Vijayawada's potential in tourism, Mr. Lakshmisha said several thematic tourism projects are in progress, including Temple Tourism, Ecotourism, and the Buddhist Circuit. He added that initiatives such as the Mulapadu Butterfly Park, Kondapalli Toys Experience Centre, the revival of the Gandhi Hill Project, and illumination of Krishna River ghats and heritage sites are also being taken up. He thanked the people of different sections and the officers of various departments, including Ayush, Medical and Health, Information and Public Relations and the Yogandhra nodal officer for making Yogandhra programme a grand success. Painting competition on July 13 The Collector said that a painting competition will be organised at Haritha Berm Park, at 6.30 a.m. on July 13 (Sunday) on various government programmes. Artists and students can sketch paintings on the themes 'Say no to single-use plastic', 'Swachhandhra – Swarnandhra', 'Save Water', 'Harithandhra' and 'P4' (Public-Private-People- Partnership), and win cash prizes from ₹1,000 to ₹10,000, he said. Extensive campaigns will be taken up in schools and colleges to eradicate drugs, says NTR district ollector
Extensive awareness campaigns will be taken up on all private and government school and college premises, by roping in Eagle clubs and campus ambassadors, to eradicate drug use from the society, said NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha. Participating in a walkathon, organised by the district police department on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse in Vijayawada on Thursday, Mr. Lakshmisha said while consuming poison kills a person instantly, consuming drugs will not just destroy the life of an individual but also that of their family and society. 'It is important to make Andhra Pradesh a drug-free State to realise the goal of Swarnandhra,' the Collector said. He added that public can report incidents of drug abuse to the nearest police stations or call Eagle tollfree 1972. NTR District Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhar Babu urged youth not to fall in the trap of drugs. He said only a dark future would be in store for those consuming drugs. Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan urged parents to ensure that their children stayed away from drugs and to explain to them about the ill-effects of drugs.

Awareness rallies mark 50 years of Emergency
With its Constitution and a strong democratic system, India can become 'viswaguru' (global leader) and the youth should always be at the forefront of upholding democracy, said NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha. Flagging off a rally from the old Government General Hospital in Vijayawada on Wednesday (June 25), to mark 50 years of Emergency, the Collector called upon the youth to ensure that democracy flourishes in the country. 'Let us join hands for strengthening of democracy. It is our responsibility to protect all the values enshrined in the Constitution,' he said. State Cultural Department Director R. Mallikarjuna Rao said that to mark half a century of Emergency, special programmes explaining the importance of democractic values would be held for a year from June 25. NTR District Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhar Babu also was present in the programme.
