Awareness programmes mark ‘World No Tobacco Day'
NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha has asked the people to keep away from tobacco products and maintain good health. People addicted to smoking and chewing tobacco products are vulnerable to cancer, lung infection and other respiratory diseases, Mr. Lakshmisha said and asked the patients to undergo counselling. The Collector, along with District Revenue Officer M. Lakshmi Narasimham, District Medical and Health Officer Dr. M. Suhasini and NGO representatives released posters on 'World No Tobacco Day' on Saturday. The Collector administered a pledge against using tobacco to participants and asked the youth to enlighten the people on the ill-effects of using tobacco products. The government is conducting awareness programmes against smoking and chewing gutkha and other tobacco products in colleges, he said. Signature campaign At a separate programme, the members of Bezawada Bar Association (BBA), in association with an NGO, Nava Jeevan Bala Bhavan, organised a signature campaign against the use of tobacco at the court complex, said BBA president A.K. Basha.

NTR District aims to become Tobacco-free: Collector launches awareness campaign
As part of the No Tobacco Day programme, District Collector G. Lakshmisha on Saturday (May 31) urged the people of NTR district to steer clear of harmful substances such as tobacco, gutka and khaini and actively participate in the state-wide 'Yogandhra Campaign' to build a healthy society. He unveiled an awareness poster on the harmful effects of tobacco at the Collectorate premises. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Lakshmisha stressed that tobacco damages vital organs, leading to severe ailments such as cancer, paralysis, blindness and hardening of arteries. He encouraged those addicted to tobacco to use yoga and counselling, especially at the district's de-addiction centres, to overcome their dependence. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to enforce the ban on tobacco product sale near educational institutions and called on parents to monitor their children's habits. Awareness drives are being conducted across colleges through NGOs, and a mobile awareness vehicle was flagged off as part of a signature campaign where the Collector pledged to transform the district into a tobacco-free zone.

UPSC civil services prelims exam concludes peacefully across districts
Visakhapatnam : The UPSC civil services prelims examination was conducted peacefully across various districts, including Visakhapatnam and NTR district, on Sunday. In Visakhapatnam, nearly 8,000 candidates appeared for the exam at 19 centers, which was held in two sessions: from 9:30 am to 11:30 am and from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. According to the aspirants, both papers were of moderate difficulty, with some candidates mentioning that the CSAT paper took more time due to an increase in comprehension-based questions. District collector MN Harendhira Prasad visited the exam centers at Vignan Engineering College in Duvvada and Kendriya Vidyalaya in Akkayyapalem to review the smooth conduct of the exams. He inspected the basic facilities being provided to the candidates, including security, supervision, drinking water, rest areas, and signboards at the centers. The collector said that the exams were conducted peacefully and in accordance with the regulations. In NTR district, the prelims exam concluded on a peaceful note with 5,716 and 5,665 candidates in attendance for paper 1 and paper 2 across 25 examination centers. NTR district collector Dr. G. Lakshmisha said that the district administration set up a special control room at the collectorate to monitor the examination. The prelims exam was held peacefully by coordinating with local inspecting cum liaison officers, examination supervisors, and strong room staff, ensuring no untoward incidents occurred.

Government employees asked to practice yoga to relieve stress
NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha asked government employees to practice yoga every day to relieve stress. The Collector participated in the Yogandhra programme, along with Andhra Pradesh Non-Gazetted Officers Association (APNGOA) JAC leaders and members, at BRTS Road, here on Sunday. 'Government employees should do yoga and meditation to maintain physical fitness, implement the schemes perfectly and render justice to the beneficiaries,' Mr. Lakshmisha said. APNGO State general secretary A. Vidya Sagar said that yoga and meditation display India's culture and are followed by many countries across the world. He thanked the Ayush, Medical and Health, Revenue and other department officials for organising the programme. APNGO leaders D. Satyanarayana, V.V. Prasad, P. Ramesh, C.V.R. Prasad and others participated.

Yoga events to be held at tourist spots in NTR district to spread awareness
NTR district Collector G. Lakshmisha has said that yoga sessions will be conducted at the tourist sites in the district to create awareness among visitors. Trained yoga masters will teach yoga at Gandhi Hill, Kondapalli Fort, Bhavani Island, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Smriti Vanam and other places, he said. Explaining the month-long yoga events planned up to June 21, at a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Lakshmisha said that 2,500 trained yoga masters will teach yoga at village, mandal and division levels every day. More than 100 people were practising yoga asanams at BRTS Road, Punnami Ghat and other places from May 21, he said and appealed to people to do yoga for a healthy and peaceful life. All sections of people, including employees, sportspersons, artistes, farmers, students, lawyers, SHG women, and senior citizens will practise yoga up to June 21, Mr. Lakshmisha said. The district administration has made elaborate arrangements for Yogandhra, being celebrated from May 21 to June 21, said Krishna district In-Charge Collector Geetanjali Sharma. A committee has been constituted with the Collector as Chairman, SP as Vice-Chairman, Joint Collector as Nodal Officer and District Medical and Health Officer as Convenor to oversee the programme, she said. Heads of various government departments have been instructed to follow the schedule given by the government for the programme, she added.
