Fire officials say the Green Bay Metro Fire Department does conduct fire inspections, but will never ask for payments over the phone or during unexpected visits.
They add that representatives of the fire department will also always be in uniform and arrive with a GBMFD-marked vehicle.
Anyone who has someone come to their home or business and is requesting payments for fire inspections, asking for access to the home or building, and/or is portraying themselves as a fire department representative is asked to contact the Green Bay Police Department.
