WhatsApp users warned they'll be BANNED for trying to get around major shutdown on millions of devices this week

WHATSAPP users are warned not to use unofficial dupes of the messaging service after the main app was shutdown for some devices. The Meta -owned platform put out an update this week which caused WhatsApp to stop working permanently. 1 There are a number of replica WhatsApp apps that allow people to contact friends but they're strictly forbidden by the tech giant. GBWhatsApp and WhatsApp Plus are just some of the popular alternatives. But anyone caught using them faces their account being banned. So users affected by recent changes shouldn't be tempted to try them out. For an iPhone, that would require "jailbreaking" the device which isn't for the fainthearted and never advised. WhatsApp announced that it will only support iPhones running iOS 15.1 or later from Monday (May 5). This includes: iPhone 5s iPhone 6 iPhone 6 Plus WhatsApp says it doesn't allow unofficial apps because they "can't validate their security practices". "If you use these apps your privacy and security are at risk," the company states on its website. WhatsApp reveals exacty how to block one of your contacts "Unofficial apps carry malware that can steal your data, and damage your phone. "There's no guarantee your messages or your data, like your location or the files you share, will be private and secure. "Your account might also be temporarily or permanently banned." The safest option is to continue accessing WhatsApp is to upgrade to a new smartphone. WHAT TO DO IF I'M AFFECTED Sadly, if you want to continue using WhatsApp legitimately and safely the best option is to upgrade your phone. Of course, the trusty SMS text message will still work, as well as Apple's own iMessage, so you could switch but you won't have key features like groups anymore as you do on WhatsApp. If you do opt for an upgrade, it doesn't have to be the most expensive option around. Even Apple has a new cheaper version of the iPhone. The latest being the iPhone 16e which starts at £599 / $599. And there are plenty of good Android options around too if you're tempted to switch, such as the Google Pixel 9a and Samsung Galaxy A56.

Syria Issues Cybersecurity Warning over Modified WhatsApp Apps

Israa Farhan The Syrian Telecommunications Authority has issued an urgent warning about a growing cyber threat targeting users of unofficial WhatsApp applications and vulnerable Microsoft Windows systems. According to Jihad Alala, Director of the Information Security Center at the National Authority for Information Technology, a wave of recent reports from users across Syria has prompted the ministry to speak out about the dangers of using modified versions of WhatsApp, such as GB WhatsApp and KB WhatsApp Plus. These unofficial apps, which are not approved by WhatsApp's parent company Meta, contain serious security vulnerabilities that could allow hackers to access users' personal and financial data. Authorities warn that these versions may also carry malicious software capable of infecting devices, stealing sensitive information, and leaving them exposed to repeated cyberattacks. The ministry urged the public to download only the official version of WhatsApp from trusted platforms like Google Play or the Apple App Store. In addition, users are encouraged to activate two-step verification and regularly check app permissions. Cybersecurity officials emphasized the importance of not sharing one-time verification codes with others, as doing so could open the door to unauthorized access. Alala also highlighted growing concerns over the security of Microsoft Windows systems. Malicious files are being used to infiltrate devices running Windows 10, Windows 11, and Windows Server, posing a risk to both individuals and organizations. These files can steal login credentials and gain access to sensitive information stored within private networks. The alert comes shortly after Microsoft confirmed a new vulnerability, listed as CVE-2025-29809, which impacts the system's Credential Guard feature. If exploited, it could allow attackers to capture usernames and passwords and use them to access other systems within an organization. The ministry is advising users to update their Windows systems regularly and avoid clicking on suspicious files or links. They also recommend contacting cybersecurity teams immediately if any unusual activity is detected. According to Alala, the increasing number of similar incidents suggests that Syria is facing a serious and growing cyber threat. The ministry considered it necessary to issue this high-level warning to prevent further damage. The warning underscores the importance of digital vigilance and responsible app usage as cybersecurity challenges continue to evolve worldwide. read more UAE's Lunar Mission Delayed to Tomorrow Twitter Lifts Trump's Account Ban Scientists Find Evidence Of 10،000 Black Holes Surrounding The Center Of The Milky Way Galaxy Greenhouse In Antarctica Able To Grow Vegetables Without Soil Or Sunlight Moving Over China: U.S. Is Again Home to World's Speediest Supercomputer Technology The 10 most expensive cars in the world Technology Top 10 fastest cars in the world Technology Lasers Could Make Computers 1 Million Times Faster Technology Smart technology taking control of our lives News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Lifestyle Pistachio and Raspberry Cheesecake Domes Recipe News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Videos & Features Bouchra Dahlab Crowned Miss Arab World 2025 ..
