Workshop on dynamics of Kerala politics
Thiruvananthapuram: Institute for the Study of Developing Areas (ISDA) is conducting a workshop on the topic "coalition politics in Kerala: Historical trajectories, political economy, and social dynamics" at YMCA Hall on Aug 11 and 12.
The two-day event will bring together leading political scientists, economists and policy experts from across the country to dissect the forces shaping Kerala's unique bipolar political system and the potential emergence of a third pole. "The workshop will explore what all that means for Kerala's democracy, governance and development," said workshop co-ordinator K S Pavithran.
The workshop will open with an inaugural address by G Gopakumar, former vice-chancellor, Central University of Kerala, and a keynote by senior journalist T K Arun.
Discussions will cover Kerala Model under globalisation, grassroots democracy, women's political representation, identity politics and the media's influence on emerging political culture.
Scholars from Jawaharlal Nehru University, University of Alaska Anchorage, US, University of Calicut, Central University of Kerala and other leading institutions will contribute research and debate policy directions. The event will conclude with a summing-up session chaired by Mohanan Pillai, chairman of ISDA, and remarks by Himanshu Roy, JNU.
