GM recalls more than 70,000 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles for faulty grille, crash risk
GM recalls more than 70,000 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles for faulty grille, crash risk Show Caption Hide Caption Car recalls: Why they happen and what buyers should know Why do car recalls happen? Here's what to know if your car has an open recall. General Motors (GM) is recalling more than 70,000 cars due to faulty hood molding that may cause the front grille of the vehicles to detach, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). According to a notice first reported to NHTSA on Thursday, the recall covers 70,768 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles. The recall specifically concerns models with chrome front grille deflectors, as the attachments that hold the front grille deflector may fracture over time, causing it to detach while driving and increasing crash risk. According to GM's notice to the NHSTA, the company received 1,225 field complaints between April 2022 and December 2024 potentially related to this condition, including four allegedly associated accidents. No injuries have been reported as a result. Which GM cars are included in the recall? Only 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles with chrome grille deflectors produced after GM's 2022 model year mid-cycle enhancement for the Sierra (RPO J22) are included in this recall. Vehicles with non-chrome grille deflectors and GMC Sierra 2500/3500 vehicles are not affected. What to do if you have a recalled car GM is still developing a remedy for the issue, but expects to send owner notification by March 24. In the meantime, owners of impact vehicles may call GM customer service for GMC at 1-800-462-8782 with recall number N242490120. GM will provide reimbursement to owners for repairs, according to NHTSA records.
