Emergency services called to office block after fire breaks out
Emergency services were called to an office block in Greater Manchester after a fire broke out. Roads around the Park Gates building in Prestwich were cordoned off as fire crews dealt with the blaze this afternoon (August 9). Five fire engines from across Greater Manchester attended the incident on Bury New Road and remained on the scene for several hours. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) first received reports of the incident at around 11.45am. A GMFRS spokesperson said: 'At around 11.45am on Saturday 9 August, five fire engines from across Greater Manchester were called to attend a commercial building fire on Bury New Road, Prestwich. 'Crews arrived quickly and used two hose reels, breathing apparatus and other specialist equipment to extinguish the fire. 'The incident is being scaled back but firefighters remain at the scene, working alongside Greater Manchester Police to make sure the area is safe.'

Fire causes huge plume of black smoke above town
A huge plume of smoke has risen across a town after a fire broke out at a commercial garage. Crews were called to the blaze on Jermyn Street in Rochdale at about 18:15 BST, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said. The fire involved a vehicle and a container at the garage, and took the combined efforts of four fire engines to put out, with firefighters still at the scene to continue damping down the area. A GMFRS spokeswoman said: "Crews arrived quickly and used three hose reels, a 45mm jet, a drone and aerial platform ladder to extinguish the fire." A devastating fire involving a vehicle and shipping container ripped through a garage in a Greater Manchester town. Aerial images from the scene on the edge of Rochdale town centre show the devastation caused by the fire this evening (August 7). Fire crews were called to the blaze at a commercial garage in Jermyn Street, which involved a vehicle and a container, at around 6.15pm. Huge plumes of black smoke engulfed the area with onlookers left 'panicked' as they feared it might spread, one eyewitness said. 'Crews arrived quickly and used three hose reels, a 45mm jet, a drone and aerial platform ladder to extinguish the fire. "Greater Manchester Police are in attendance to assist with road cordons while firefighters remain on the scene to continue damping down the area.' Rugby Road, James Street and the top of Jermyn Street remain closed while buses are still being diverted away from Yorkshire Street. Mohammed Yousaf from Auto Shop in Milkstone Road told the Manchester Evening News that people in the area were 'panicking'. He said: "They were in a panic, hoping it doesn't get worse. I told them to close all your windows. "All the black smoke, it's not good to inhale it. After that, I heard the fire brigade come, probably around three. "Then I heard some other sirens. Emergency services descend on major route near Manchester city centre after BMW crash
There was a massive emergency service response after a crash on the city centre ring road tonight (Tuesday, August 5). Trinity Way in Salford was shut off heading towards the city centre after the crash which was said to involve just one car. Pictures from the scene showed a BMW with its front end embedded into a lamppost. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: 'At just after 8.10pm today (Tuesday 5 August), fire crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Trinity Way, Salford. 'One fire engine from Blackley Community Fire Station and the technical response unit from Ashton quickly attended the incident which involved one vehicle. 'Firefighters made the area safe before departing after approximately 45 minutes at the scene.' Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have been approached for further details.
