Horror as car 'ploughs into bus stop and hits building' in major south Manchester crash
A car ploughed into a bus stop before uncontrollably hitting a building in a horror collision in south Manchester on Monday night (June 9). Police, paramedics and fire crews raced to the scene on Slade Lane in Longsight at around 8.30pm. The road was taped off with a huge cordon put in place. Part of nearby Stockport Road was also blocked, with the police tape stretching over the Slade Lane Community Garden amid investigations. Join the Manchester Evening News WhatsApp group HERE Pictures from the scene showed a number of ambulance vehicles in attendance, along with incident response units, police vans and the fire service. It was reported that a car had struck a bus stop before ploughing into a commercial building, thought to be a shop. Images taken of the aftermath appear to show the car in the centre of the large cordon. Witnesses claimed to have seen at least one casualty being treated on the ground at the scene by responding paramedics. Further details have not yet been confirmed. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said, 'At around 8:30pm this evening (Monday, 9th June), firefighters were called to reports of a crash on Stockport Road in Longsight. 'Three fire engines from Gorton and Ashton fire stations quickly arrived at the scene, where a car had crashed into a bus stop and a commercial building. 'Crews remain in attendance.' Smoke sent billowing across area after 'scary' fire breaks out at house
Smoke was sent billowing across part of Tameside this afternoon after a fire broke out at a house. Fire crews raced to Mottram Road in Stalybridge after the blaze broke out, shortly after midday. The patio door of the property went up in flames, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue (GMRS) said. They said it 'quickly caught fire' and 'got large immediately.' A neighbour with a hose helped douse water on it before firefighters arrived they said, adding it was 'very scary.' A GMFRS spokesperson said: 'At around 12.05pm today (Saturday 31 May), four fire engines from Stalybridge, Mossley, Hyde and Hollins fire stations attended a house fire involving a patio door on Mottram Road, Stalybridge. 'Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus arrived quickly one hose reel, one short extension ladder, a gas monitor and thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire and make the area safe. Firefighters have been working through the night to tackle a blaze at a large industrial unit. The fire broke out on Adelaide Street, Bolton, just before 21:50 BST on Thursday, with eight fire engines attending along with the aerial unit, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said. Billowing smoke could be seen across the town but crews have managed to contain the large fire. They are making "good progress" and are dampening down the area, GMFRS said. St Helen's Road has been closed in both directions Dan Perager, GMFRS Duty Group Manager, said: "Our crews worked hard to contain this incident to the building affected and to bring the fire under control. "Firefighters have worked throughout the night and we continue to make very good progress to fully extinguish the fire." Specialist appliances including the Aerial Unit and Scorpion and Turntable Ladder were called to the incident, he added.
