Home Minister directs police to act seriously on drugs

Bengaluru: Home Minister G Parameshwara on Monday said he has issued directions to all Police Superintendents and Commissionerates across the state to ensure local police stations take drug-related activities seriously and initiate action. The direction follows the recent bust of an MDMA drug manufacturing facility in Mysuru by the Maharashtra police. Acknowledging this as a lapse on part of the local police, he said directions have been given to take action against those officials involved. An MDMA drug manufacturing facility was raided here by Maharashtra police in coordination with the Mysuru City police on Saturday, police sources said. A large quantity of MDMA or ecstasy was seized during the raid, and four people have been arrested and taken to Mumbai, where an FIR had been registered. 'Mumbai police, I believe they caught somebody, either a peddler or a user I don't know exactly and they have traced it back to Mysuru. Obviously, the person whom they have caught has made a statement that it (MDMA) was outsourced from Mysuru. They have come in search of it and found that some people were doing this in a shed in Mysuru,' Parameshwara said. Addressing reporters here, he said, 'The question is how porous we are in terms of looking at all these things. That is why I have given very strict instructions to our commissionerate in Mysuru, also generally throughout the state. Every SP has been sensitised now and every commissionerate has been given very strict instructions that such things do not happen. Otherwise, what is the use of us being there as police?' Expressing concern over the production of MDMA at a facility in Mysuru, the Home Minister said he has sought action against the officials at the local police station. 'Because, if the jurisdictional police are not aware of such activities and if some other agency or other state police come and raid and make arrests, naturally it shows lapses. So I have asked for action to be taken and also to sensitise the police across the state to take the drug related activities seriously,' he added. Following the raid, Inspector of Narasimharaja Police Station, Lakshmikant Talwar, was suspended pending a departmental inquiry, officials said.

MDMA drug lab busted in Mysuru, Mumbai cops lead raid with Karnataka Police support

An illegal MDMA (Ecstasy) drug manufacturing unit was busted in Mysuru on Saturday by the Maharashtra police, working in close coordination with the Mysuru City police. The joint operation led to the seizure of a substantial quantity of the synthetic drug and the arrest of four individuals, who have since been taken to Mumbai for further investigation. The raid was the result of actionable intelligence obtained during an earlier arrest made by the Mumbai police, which subsequently led them to the Mysuru location. Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara, addressing reporters in Davangere on Sunday, confirmed the development and expressed serious concern over the discovery. "A drug manufacturing centre for MDMA was unearthed in Mysuru through an operation conducted by Mumbai police with support from our local police. Some people have been apprehended. This is extremely alarming," he said. "Since this occurred in our jurisdiction, we need to find out how long this unit was operating, whether it had been active for more than the 20 days initially suspected, and to whom the drugs were being supplied. All these details will be examined thoroughly," Parameshwara said. Meanwhile, in an unrelated but simultaneous effort to clamp down on drug networks, Bengaluru Police conducted a surprise sweep across 13 police station limits in the city's North Division on Sunday. The operation, officials said, was part of an intensified campaign against suspected drug dealers and habitual offenders. As many as 106 individuals were picked up for questioning during the checks. These included those previously booked in drug-related cases, known drug users, and others whose activities had raised suspicions. Police collected updated information about their movements, employment status, court case appearances, and any outstanding warrants. (With ANI inputs)

Drone cameras to monitor public safety in Kalaburagi

Kalaburagi: The Karnataka govt has bolstered its public safety infrastructure by introducing drone technology in Kalaburagi, whilst creating opportunities for youth development in drone operations across the state. This demonstrates its dedication to enhancing law enforcement capabilities. At a ceremony in Bengaluru on Thursday, advanced surveillance drones - Nimble-Eye and OS01 - were presented to Kalaburagi district police commissioner SD Sharanappa by home minister G Parameshwara. These Karnataka-manufactured drones feature AI-enabled surveillance capabilities and have been implemented through corporate social responsibility initiatives. Speaking at the event, home minister G Parameshwara said, "Our vision is to equip every police station in Karnataka with drones, which will make our forces smarter, faster and more responsive. Karnataka-made drones are a symbol of how technology can serve public interest." The sophisticated features of drones include round-the-clock surveillance, number plate recognition, crowd and vehicle monitoring, and swift field deployment capabilities, providing enhanced support to police operations across districts. IT and BT minister Priyank Kharge, who also oversees rural development and panchayat raj, announced plans to train 500 Kalaburagi youth in DGCA-certified drone operations. This initiative aims to create opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, logistics, disaster management, and infrastructure monitoring. Minister Priyank Kharge said: "The strength of our technology should be a force for rural transformation and opportunity. The drone sector is one of the fastest-growing industries globally. Drones are being used in various fields. By upskilling the youth of Kalaburagi in cutting-edge drone technologies, we prepare them for future jobs, new livelihoods, local innovation, and rural technology. We are helping to create ecological systems. " Minister Priyank Kharge highlighted Karnataka's prominent position in embracing advanced technologies, establishing robust infrastructure, and generating job opportunities through integrated and efficient governance systems. He emphasised the state's commitment to smart administrative practices that foster development and progress.

Karnataka Forms SIT To Probe Murders, Sexual Assaults, Missing Women Cases In Dharmasthala

Last Updated: The four-member special investigation team will be headed by Karnataka DGP, internal security division, Pranav Mohanty Responding to concerns over media reports of mass burials, the Siddaramaiah-led government in Karnataka has formed a special investigation team to probe the alleged incidents of murder, rape, and cases of missing women spanning two decades in the Dharmasthala area. A government order (GO) dated July 19 was shared with the press on Sunday. The police have already registered a case under Section 211(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in Dharmasthala. The matter came to light after the discovery of a human skull and statements made by the family of a missing medical student. An individual, a former sanitation worker at the Dharmasthala temple, also came forward claiming that there were 'hundreds of bodies were buried in the Dharmasthala area". 'The government has constituted an SIT to look into the Dharmasthala issues. There has been a complaint. There has been a public hue and cry. The government has taken note of all this and then constituted an SIT to look into this entire thing… If somebody is thinking of creating some political issue out of this at this point of time, I don't want to react to all that," state minister G Parameshwara told news agency ANI. The special investigation team (SIT) will be headed by Karnataka director general of police (DGP), internal security division, Pranav Mohanty. Other members include additional commissioner of police (recruitment) MN Anucheth, deputy commissioner of police (CAR headquarters) Soumya Latha, and superintendent of police (internal security division) Jitendra Kumar Dayama. The SIT will investigate not only the present case but also all related cases registered or to be registered in other police stations across the state. The DGP will assign such cases to the SIT and provide necessary personnel. The SIT will function using resources from the Dakshina Kannada district police office and is expected to submit regular updates to the DGP. A comprehensive investigation report will be submitted to the state government through the DGP at the earliest. WHAT IS THE MASS BURIALS CASE? The state government's move has come in response to a letter from the Karnataka State Women's Commission chairperson Nagalakshmi Choudhary, who cited a court statement by an individual claiming that 'hundreds of bodies were buried in the Dharmasthala area". The commission also took serious note of media reports highlighting the discovery of a human skull and statements made by the family of a missing medical student. It said these reports — alongside the court testimony — point to a 'disturbing pattern of abuse, unnatural deaths, and disappearances of women and female students spanning more than 20 years". The police complaint was filed alleging the secret disposal of multiple bodies in a village in the Dakshina Kannada district. The complainant has claimed that he was involved in disposing of several bodies under threat. His identity has been kept confidential for security reasons. Driven by guilt, he approached the police with a request for protection and expressed willingness to fully cooperate with the investigation, on the condition that legal protection is granted to him and his family. The complainant has offered to share detailed information about those involved and the specific locations where the bodies were disposed of once safety assurances are in place. On July 12, in a key development, the complainant's statement was recorded by the principal civil judge and JMFC of Belthangady Taluk, Dakshina Kannada. The statement was taken under Section 183 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS), which corresponds to Section 164 of the former Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). Knock knock! It's your friendly neighbourhood Bengaluru cop at the doorstep

Bengaluru: To strengthen trust and connect better with citizens, police on Friday rolled out a people-friendly initiative titled 'Mane Manege Police' (police to every home), with cops quite literally knocking on doors in local neighbourhoods. The initiative, launched by home minister G Parameshwara in MC Layout in west Bengaluru, will soon be implemented across the state. As part of the drive, policemen will go door to door in their jurisdictions, not to investigate, but to interact with residents. As part of the outreach drive, cops will listen to residents' grievances, collect key details, and try to resolve their problems. A special logbook will record each household's concerns, while door stickers will mark homes visited by police. The cops will also educate residents on various issues such as drug abuse, crimes against women and children, and cybercrimes. The home minister, along with senior officials, visited a few houses in MC Layout after the initiative's launch and entered the details of the occupants — such as name, age, profession, native place, how long they have been staying in the city, the languages they speak, their contact details, etc. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why seniors are rushing to get this Internet box – here's why! This will help us know their issues and help build a good relationship between people and police." How will it benefit you? According to the home minister, during their visit, police personnel will request people to share their "goods and bads". Citizens can inform cops if they are being troubled by any anti-social elements, if anyone is troubling their children, or pushing them for drug abuse. People can also inform them about newcomers in the locality. If any resident is not speaking to anyone in the locality and trying to stay remote, it can also be flagged. The data will also help parents know the activities of their children. If they have developed any bad company, that will be informed to the parents, Parameshwara said. Data to be digitalised All the data collected during police house visits will be digitised. Officers will first record the details in a physical logbook, which will then be uploaded to a central system and accessed via tablets handed to beat constables. These digital records will give patrolling officers a clear idea of who lives where, who has moved in or out, whether a home is rented or owned, what language the residents speak, how many people stay there, and what they do. "We're building a city-wide data bank of residents that can be accessed whenever needed," said Parameshwara, while assuring that privacy concerns will be addressed. This digital profiling will also help police identify and monitor VIPs, actors, writers, and other potential soft targets, enabling timely security measures and better protection against criminal threats.
