Grand Rapids youth employment program taking applications
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Applications have opened for a Grand Rapids program that gives teens and young adults part-time work and professional development for six weeks during the summer.
The GRow1000 Summer Youth Employment Program applications are and may be submitted through April 25. Applicants must be age 15 to 24, live in Grand Rapids and be eligible to work in the U.S.
The public/private partnership program will hire more than 100 of the applicants. They will make $13 per hour and will be eligible for bus passes to get to work.
Workers will be scheduled for 20 hours weekly from June 9 to July 18. Those hours include paid professional development workshops on Fridays.
'We have employed 1,150 young people in jobs since this program's inception in 2020. I know firsthand how impactful youth employment opportunities are in helping one prepare for present and future success. Furthermore, this program also designed for our youth to discover who they are and who they want to be,' City Manager Dr. Mark Washington said in a Thursday statement.
Businesses and organizations can still through the program or to support it.
