Coimbatore and Kovaipudur are future destinations of growth, say panellists
As the country strives to meet its new destiny, the wheel of progress is being oiled by big dreamers and achievers like the emerging metro Coimbatore and Kovaipudur, which have fallen under the wings of the Coimbatore Corporation and are poised to take off with the Master Plan 2041 ready to give them a new impetus. The series of panel discussions titled 'Coimbatore Unlimited 3.0' came to Kochi on Thursday (August 7), in partnership with G Square and The Hindu, and supported by FICCI, where experts from various fields opened up to a substantial gathering comprising potential investors. The speakers at the interactive session were one in their opinion that Coimbatore is the new rage among potential investors, not only in South India but across India, with its advanced road and air connectivity and soothing climate provided by the mighty Western Ghats. Coimbatore city is emerging as a lifestyle destination, a destination for global capability centres (GCCs) and new generation IT companies dealing in artificial intelligence and the whole spectrum of new growth opportunities. Having its roots in the textile industry in the 1950s to the latest AI start-ups, Coimbatore has seen the entire cycle of industrialisation and is now poised to take off on a new trajectory, said Junaith Babu, chief operating officer (CEO) of G Square. He added that the textile industry boom brought it fame as the Manchester of South India. The city grew with small enterprises in small engineering works and is home to around 45,000 MSMEs now. It is on these strong foundations that Coimbatore will build its future as a major investment destination of the future, Mr. Babu said confidently. He said that G Square had recently acquired around 700 acres for new development in Coimbatore, underlining the optimism triggered by the new growth promises. Raghav, CEO of A Plus Architects, said that Coimbatore had the infrastructure for GCCs, and that the city's growth vision had been set firmly. He underlined the fact that the new generation was catching up with the city of Coimbatore, considering the new developments. He also said that Coimbatore had the distinction of being a self-made city without much assistance from the government. The city grew as an entrepreneurs' city, and its strength has never wavered in the past. Sujatha N.A., marketing manager, Brookfields, said that Coimbatore was both modern and traditional. There is a healthy mix, and it is, therefore, a destination for shopping with its new culture of malls, which will also bring in the entertainment industry as the growth story continues. She added that it was no longer a tier-2 city but a tier 1.5, with all the infrastructure and developments taking place all around. The textile shopping destination tag apart, Coimbatore can grow into the fashion industry, which will make it a new hub of activities because there is a healthy mix of the modern and the traditional. Balakrishna, consulting director, PBK Business Consulting, Coimbatore, said that Coimbatore was now offering a rich culinary experience. The vegetarian choices have grown diversely, considering that previously, non-vegetarian food was one of the strengths of the city. With the COVID-19 pandemic, vegetarian choices have increased, drawing a lot of people to experience the new foods on offer. The emergence of pilgrim centres will add strength to Coimbatore's reputation. The speakers said that Coimbatore's fame as a healthcare destination from times of old had given it an edge, with medical tourism holding out great potential for the future. Mr. Junaith Babu also hinted at the potential for G Square to act as a catalyst for a destination where crossborder investments could bring a new growth trajectory, providing employment and commercial opportunities. All things considered, Coimbatore is set to go places with its geographical positioning under the gaze of the mighty Western Ghats and the temperate climatic and micro weather conditions, the speakers agreed. K. Pradeep, former Senior Deputy Editor of The Hindu, moderated the discussions. T.A. Ansari, Senior Manager, Advertisement, The Hindu, welcomed the gathering.

Today's home buyers need not even have to visit the site: Casagrand Chairman
Owing to advancement of technology in real estate sector, today's home buyers need not visit a site as they can virtually view and pay online to purchase a property, said Arun M.N., Founder, Chairman and Managing Director of Casagrand at Chennai on Tuesday (August 5, 2025). During a fireside chat with R. Rosella Stephen, Senior Associate Editor of The Hindu on 'Vision for Tamil Nadu's real estate growth' at The Hindu Tamil Nadu Real Estate Summit 2025, Mr. Arun said: 'When our [company's] revenue reached around ₹40–50 crore, we set an ambitious goal of becoming a ₹1,000 crore company — a milestone we proudly achieved in a record time of just five years.' 'Since then, our vision has only grown bolder and today, we are close to ₹10,000 crore in sales value,' he added. Mr. Arun also highlighted how one-tenth of Casagrand is now owned by employees. 'They own 10% of the organisation. I've diluted the ownership to them before going in for an IPO, so that the stock options would hopefully reward them,' he said. To a query on Casagrand's role in the Tamil movie 3BHK, said: 'Today Instagram and Facebook is feeding so much information. And these celebrities being present is extra eyeballs.' Sharing his views on the technological developments in the real estate sector, Mr. Arun said that today, a home buyer does not have to come to a site. He (consumer) knows what it is on a video through which he can get the whole site experience. 'He can book online, paying via [debit or credit] card. So, that's how simple and progressive we have made it.' Gone are those days where one used to have many staff to handle customer calls and enquiries. 'Today, we have chatbots, voice calls and WhatsApp conversations.' When asked about the new generation consumers, Mr. Arun said: 'They don't really see a need to own a home as they would want to travel and add experiences. That's for the population, which is about 5-10% of India.' The event is presented by Casagrand and co-presented by G Square. Potential for land investments beyond Chennai booming: G Square Group MD Bala Ramajayam
With land investments gaining popularity even in smaller towns, real estate players must explore opportunities beyond Chennai as several projects are reporting strong sales, Bala Ramajayam, Managing Director of G Square Group said during The Hindu Tamil Nadu Real Estate Summit 2025 held in Chennai on Tuesday (August 5, 2025). In a fireside chat on 'Navigating the future of real estate in Tamil Nadu' moderated by Sangeetha Kandavel, Senior Assistant Editor of The Hindu, Mr. Ramajayam underlined on the growing demand for land investments not only in Chennai and in Tier-II, Tier –III cities and smaller towns. Noting that there was a vast untapped market potential beyond the metros, he said more players must step in to offer residential plots as people are drawn to such land investments. G Square Group ventured into residential land investments after the COVID-19 pandemic. While initially investors were apprehensive to purchase plots in the city instead of apartments, people are now encouraged by land value appreciation by 70%, he said. On a question on potentials in Tier-II and Tier-III cities, Mr. Ramajayam said there is a growing demand in other cities. Coimbatore ranks next to Chennai as a major hub for land deals and G Square sealed business worth ₹1,000 crore last year. The demand is steadily rising in Madurai and Tiruchi too. 'If we assure investors about land value appreciation, the volume of land investment businesses will witness a steady growth,' he said. Responding to a question on trends in attracting youngsters into land investments, he said the G Square Group had found that 80% of the buyers belong to the age group of 35-45 years whose life dream is to own a house. He also highlighted that Tamil Nadu has better infrastructure than other States. 'We are also collaborating with builders particularly small developers to develop our layouts into residential buildings, IT parks and malls,' Mr. Ramajayam added. On criteria for choosing lands for development, he said existing housing in the neighbourhood and road connectivity are some of the key factors considered. The event is presented by Casagrand and co-presented by G Square. The green energy partner for the event is Swelect and the sports ecosystem partners are SDAT and Tamil Nadu Champions Foundation. The event is supported by CREDAI Tamil Nadu, Lancor, Namma Family Group. The strategic partner is MMA (Madras Management Association). The Hindu Tamil Nadu Real Estate Summit 2025
Urban growth in Tamil Nadu is entering a decisive new phase, driven by a confluence of policy reforms, technological advancements, and a rising demand for sustainable, inclusive development. For the first time, The Hindu Group is set to organise The Hindu Tamil Nadu Real Estate Summit 2025 on August 5 at Rajendra Hall 4, 5 & 6, ITC Grand Chola, Chennai, from 10 a.m. The event is presented by Casagrand and co-presented by G Square. The summit's central narrative revolves around urban transformation: exploring themes such as smart cities, budget housing, green construction, real estate-fintech integrations, and investor outlook for Tamil Nadu. Shiv Das Meena, IAS (retd.), Chairperson, Tamil Nadu Real Estate Regulatory Authority (TNRERA), will deliver the keynote address, outlining the state's vision and roadmap for regulated, inclusive, and future-ready urban development. Speakers and panellists include Arun M.N., Founder, Chairman and Managing Director, Casagrand; W.S. Habib, President, CREDAI; and Julian Peter, Head of Value & Risk Advisory in India & City Capital Markets, Chennai JLL. Participants can ask questions to the panellists directly. There will be five panels and three fireside chats. 'We're building faster than ever — but most of it feels hollow. The challenge isn't just approvals or rising costs. It's that we've reduced real estate to metrics — FSI, yield, delivery timelines — while ignoring how a space lives, breathes, or holds memory,'says Sripriya Ganesan, co-founder of Studio Neon Attic. Attendees can look forward to a unique opportunity to network with leading developers, senior policymakers, and key investors from across the country. The event offers valuable insights from those at the forefront of shaping Tamil Nadu's real estate vision, while also opening doors to strategic collaborations across infrastructure, smart technology, and housing. Moreover, the summit will showcase the latest innovations in sustainable and smart real estate development, making it an essential destination for anyone looking to engage with the future of urban growth in the state.
