2 dead in blaze at ‘illegal' e-rickshaw charging point in Delhi's Dilshad Colony

Two people died after a massive fire broke out at an 'illegal' e-rickshaw charging point inside a residential building in northeast Delhi's Dilshad Colony late Sunday night, fire and police officials said. According to Delhi Fire Services (DFS), the fire originated from two e-rickshaws and a bike near the charging station on the ground floor and rapidly spread to the upper floors. 'We received a call at 11.32pm about a battery rickshaw fire inside a house. Four fire tenders were dispatched to the spot in Kodi Colony, Dilshad Garden,' said Atul Garg, DFS Chief. DFS said the station was operating illegally without permits or alternative exits, and urged police action. To be sure, e-rickshaw charging stations operating in Delhi requires permission from MCD, who check all legal documents and inspect the equipment. The fire, suspected to have been triggered by a short circuit in the charging equipment, was brought under control by 12.35am, officials said, adding that 4 fire tenders were pressed into service. 'The fire affected three vehicles and a charging point in a three-storey building. Most victims were rescued but two sustained severe burns and were rushed to GTB Hospital,' Garg added. The deceased were identified as Sashi Kumar, 25, who lived with his family in the building, and Ballu, 55, a homeless man resting on the ground floor. Both were declared brought dead at GTB Hospital, officials said. DCP (northeast) Ashish Mishra said, 'A woman was rescued and two men died. The ground floor was being used for e-rickshaw charging. Crime and FSL teams were called.' A case has been filed under BNS sections 106(1) and 287 for negligent conduct causing death and fire hazard. The incident is the fourth fire linked to e-rickshaw charging points in three weeks. In three recent incidents, fires at e-rickshaw charging points in Ghonda, Ram Nagar, and Vishvas Nagar injured 10 and killed two. A May 25 Ram Nagar blaze killed two sugarcane juice vendors and injured four others. On May 19, six, including two children, were hurt in Vishvas Nagar. All fires reportedly stemmed from short circuits and illegal setups, officials said.

Six minors stab 28-yr-old to death for social media fame in northeast Delhi

Six minors have been apprehended after they stabbed a 28-year-old man to death in northeast Delhi's Subhash Mohalla in Bhajanpura on Friday evening, police said, adding that the boys had no specific motive for the murder and only wanted to show off on social media. Additional deputy commissioner of police (north east) Sandeep Lamba said the victim was identified as Mohammed Shakir, a resident of Subhash Mohalla in Ghonda. He worked with his brother and ran a business of disposables. The accused minors — all aged between 12 and 15 — are residents of northeast Delhi. Police said they were informed at around 9.30pm a man lying injured on the road. He was taken to GTB Hospital, where he was declared dead. A case under charges of murder was registered and investigation was taken up. 'During the investigation, CCTV footage was obtained and it was found that a bunch of minors had stabbed the man who was walking on the street,' the officer said. With the help of technical surveillance and human intelligence, the accused boys were identified and apprehended overnight. 'Six were found to be involved and all of them were apprehended by morning,' Lamba said. During interrogation, the accused told the police that they didn't know the man and had no reason to kill him. 'They just wanted to kill someone to establish their name in the crime world. They wanted to show dominance in the area. When they spotted the man, they just stabbed him,' the officer said. The same month, five minors allegedly killed two men in east Delhi's Ghazipur and New Ashok Nagar area.

‘Not cargo': Doc seeks facilities for differently abled at Hindon terminal

Ghaziabad: A doctor this month filed a complaint with the Hindon Civil Terminal over the lack of adequate facilities to ease travel for differently abled people at the airport, where commercial flights are being scaled up since March. Satendra Singh, who lives in Vasundhara Olive County and works at GTB Hospital, alleged in the complaint that Air India Express (AIX) staffers lied to him twice when he enquired about the availability of ambulift service at the Hindon Civil Terminal. You Can Also Check: Noida AQI | Weather in Noida | Bank Holidays in Noida | Public Holidays in Noida Singh wrote in the complaint – also marked to the AIX airport manager, regulator DGCA and the Union civil aviation ministry — that he booked an Air India Express flight to go to Goa on May 4 and return two days after. I proactively contacted the airline's customer support to confirm availability of an ambulift. Two Air India Express executives assured me on call that an ambulift would be available but, to my shock, I was later informed that the terminal does not have any such facility," Singh said in the complaint. "Later, when I confronted the carrier, they most callously offered a solution, saying —'It's not at all a problem, we will use four people to lift you along with the wheelchair' — as if my body were luggage, to be handled like cargo," Singh wrote. An ambulift is a vehicle with ambulance-like facilities that is used to ferry differently abled passengers from an airport terminal to the aircraft. It then lifts passengers on wheelchairs or stretchers to the level of the aircraft's door. Major airports, among them Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, provide this facility. Singh said this "solution" was "not only undignified" but also in violation of Article 21 of the Constitution and civil aviation rules. AIX, in a series of posts on X, said that the "availability of an ambulift falls under the purview of the airport authority". On this response, Singh told TOI on Thursday the carrier is deflecting blame on the Airport Authority of India, but it is as guilty as AAI. He demanded that the terminal must immediately procure an ambulift or an equivalent facility, take disciplinary action against AIX staff for misleading claims and the airline should issue an apology to him. An official of Hindon Civil Terminal said the aerodrome advisory committee (AAC) has been meeting regularly to upgrade and enhance facilities. "This includes facilities for differently abled people and medical services. Many recommendations have been made in this regard, and they are being worked out," he said. The Hindon airport, which previously handled only Udan flights with limited traffic, is now connected to all metro cities, with a daily flight each to Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, and two to Bengaluru. AI Express also operates on the Goa, Jammu and Bhubaneswar routes. Located about 25km from Delhi and well connected by road and metro trains, the Hindon terminal is being used as NCR's second airport – after IGI -- primarily for travellers from Noida, East Delhi, and west UP.

GTB Enclave murder case: Two more in police net

NEW DELHI: Police on Monday arrested two more men for allegedly murdering a 22-year-old woman in east Delhi's GTB Enclave area on April 14. The officials said the woman was a key eyewitness in a previous murder case and the accused feared she might turn hostile in court and weaken the case. The accused have been identified as Firoj Khan (22) and Kishan Kumar (39), both residents of Sunder Nagri. A third accused, Rizwan (20), had earlier been arrested by the Delhi Police Crime Branch. On April 14 around 10 pm, GTB Enclave police received a PCR call about a woman lying with bullet injuries near MIG Flats, opposite Sunder Nagri. She was rushed to GTB Hospital, where she was declared dead. The victim was identified as Sayara, who had been living with her sister and brother-in-law in Kodi Colony following her mother's recent death. CCTV footage showed Rizwan walking with Sayara before the murder. During interrogation, Rizwan initially misled investigators about the motive. Later, it was revealed that Sayara was an eyewitness in the murder of a man named Rahul, killed four months ago. Rahul's uncle Kishan and his friend Aman feared Sayara's testimony could compromise the case. Rizwan befriended Sayara as part of a conspiracy, while Firoj and Kishan supplied him with a pistol and four live cartridges. They also gave him Rs 15,000 in advance, promising `1 lakh upon execution of the plan. An earlier attempt to kill her had failed, police said. All three accused have been remanded to judicial custody, said police.
