GTB Enclave murder case: Two more in police net

NEW DELHI:
Police on Monday arrested two more men for allegedly murdering a 22-year-old woman in east Delhi's GTB Enclave area on April 14.
The officials said the woman was a key eyewitness in a previous murder case and the accused feared she might turn hostile in court and weaken the case.
The accused have been identified as Firoj Khan (22) and Kishan Kumar (39), both residents of Sunder Nagri. A third accused, Rizwan (20), had earlier been arrested by the Delhi Police Crime Branch.
On April 14 around 10 pm, GTB Enclave police received a PCR call about a woman lying with bullet injuries near MIG Flats, opposite Sunder Nagri. She was rushed to GTB Hospital, where she was declared dead.
The victim was identified as Sayara, who had been living with her sister and brother-in-law in Kodi Colony following her mother's recent death. CCTV footage showed Rizwan walking with Sayara before the murder.
During interrogation, Rizwan initially misled investigators about the motive.
Later, it was revealed that Sayara was an eyewitness in the murder of a man named Rahul, killed four months ago.
Rahul's uncle Kishan and his friend Aman feared Sayara's testimony could compromise the case. Rizwan befriended Sayara as part of a conspiracy, while Firoj and Kishan supplied him with a pistol and four live cartridges. They also gave him Rs 15,000 in advance, promising `1 lakh upon execution of the plan.
An earlier attempt to kill her had failed, police said. All three accused have been remanded to judicial custody, said police.

Unregistered agencies offer fake overseas jobs for youngsters in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on social media platforms

"The lured youth are told to pay anywhere between Rs 1.50 lakh to Rs 3 lakh, and a fake offer letter and visa are issued to them. They are later told that for some reason, they could not avail the job and money they have paid is non-refundable as they have already signed a legal agreement with them. The jobs which are offered to them are of helpers, waiters carpenters, cooks, housekeepers, masons, drivers, electricians, food packers, security guards, plumbers, crane operators and so forth,'' he added. A joint team from the Protectorate of Emigrants, Chandigarh and Chandigarh Police raided the premises of an unregistered immigration agent in Sector 34-A on June 14. The firm was found to be offering overseas jobs without a valid license and later a case was registered. Also, numerous incriminating documents, including two laptops, 17 mobile phones, fake overseas job offer letters, and other evidence, were seized. "This unregistered firm had been using social media platforms to lure unsuspecting youth with false promises of high-paying overseas jobs in hotels and construction companies in countries such as Georgia, Jordan, Azerbaijan, and Dubai. Further investigations, including financial trails, are currently underway to identify and arrest the owners and others involved,'' he said. Singh also informed that the firm for the last ten months, was operating teller-caller services and young ladies were employed to call the prospective clients. "They were taught what to speak to the client and what to offer. They were given fake names and the mobiles they operated were issued by the firms so that the youth would never ever be able to trace them back," he added. The statements of all the girls were recorded and were let off. "The complaint in the case was that a youth was promised a job is Jordan, and he paid Rs 1.15 lakh, but later he was told that he cannot get the job due to hostilities between India and Pakistan,'' he said. Singh said,`` We urge youth not to fall prey to misleading social media advertisements offered by illegal and unregistered agents offering high-paying overseas job offers. Such agents frequently target destinations including Azerbaijan, Jordan, Luxembourg, Georgia, Cambodia, and Thailand. Aspiring overseas job seekers are strongly advised to verify the credentials of recruiting agents through the official eMigrate portal of the Ministry of External Affairs: and on Twitter handle @PoEChandigarh.''

SC to hear on Monday plea of Amtek Group promoter seeking interim bail

The Supreme Court is slated to hear on Monday a plea of Amtek Group promoter Arvind Dham seeking interim bail in connection with a money laundering case. As per the causelist published on the website of the apex court, a bench of Justices Sandeep Mehta and Prasanna B. Varale will take up the matter for hearing on June 16. Earlier, the Delhi High Court had turned down the prayer to release Dham on interim bail pending the disposal of his regular bail application. Dham's counsel argued that he had been languishing in custody for 11 months, and his regular bail application was pending for adjudication before the Delhi HC since February 2025. Opposing the prayer for interim bail till the disposal of the regular bail application, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had contended that the agency did not seek a single adjournment and there was no ground for the grant of interim bail. The ED referred to the apex court's April 7 decision, which had refused to extend Dham's interim bail on medical grounds. In its order passed on May 30, a bench of Justice Ravinder Dudeja recorded that the regular bail application could not be decided partly because of the reason of change of roster and subsequently because of the filing of the interim bail application on medical grounds, which was dealt on number of dates, and thereafter because of the lengthy arguments on the bail application. "Since the matter is already part-heard on merits, I do not deem it appropriate to grant interim bail to the applicant/accused. However, keeping in view the question of liberty of the applicant/accused being involved, the date is preponed to 15.07.2025," he ordered. The ED initiated an investigation based on the Supreme Court's order on February 27, 2024, while hearing a PIL against Amtek Auto group of companies, which directed the federal anti-money laundering agency to investigate the case involving bank fraud by Amtek Auto Group to the tune of Rs 27,000 crore. The top court expressed concerns regarding the diversion of public money, emphasising the necessity of a comprehensive money laundering investigation by the ED, even if the banks concerned had settled the accounts. Multiple FIRs were lodged by the CBI arising from the complaints by IDBI Bank and the Bank of Maharashtra under various sections of the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, on allegations of illegally diverting bank loans by causing wrongful loss to the banks. In the course of the investigation, the ED provisionally attached movable and immovable properties valued at Rs 557.49 crore under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The probe revealed that the financial statements of group companies were deceitfully manipulated to obtain additional fraudulent loans and create bogus assets and investments in the books of accounts. The ED had earlier conducted searches at more than 40 locations and subsequently arrested Dham and filed a prosecution complaint on September 6, 2024.

On the run for 21 years, Doctor Death's associate arrested for Delhi murder

An associate of notorious serial killer Doctor Death, on the run for 21 years for one of his gang's murders in Sarita Vihar, was finally arrested by the Crime Branch from his native Aligarh on Saturday, Delhi Police said. On May 19, the police arrested Devender Sharma, aka Doctor Death, the leader of the gang that allegedly killed truck and taxi drivers to steal their vehicles and sell them off in the grey market. They interrogated him about the elusive gang member Rajender, whose name had cropped up in connection with seven murders committed by the gang across Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, but was never caught before by the police. The police were in for a shock when Devender revealed that an associate, Rajua, 59, convicted for life for only one murder by the gang in Jaipur in 2007, was the same person as Rajender. 'The accused revealed that Rajua was the same person as Rajender and was working under a false identity to hide his involvement in other murders, including that in Sarita Vihar,' Aditya Gautam, DCP (Crime), said. Though Rajender, 59, did serve time as Rajua in Jaipur jail from 2007 to 2021, the police believed that he was involved in only one murder, a police official said. 'He was accused in the murder of a taxi driver in Jaipur as part of the Doctor Death gang and was convicted for life under the name Rajua. This name was fake, and didn't come up in other murder investigations of crimes committed by the gang. Hence, he served his sentence from 2007 to 2021, and was then released,' a police official said. A team led by Inspector Rakesh Sharma of the Crime Branch, supervised by ACP Umesh Barthwal started tracing Rajender. Inputs were gathered from across western Uttar Pradesh, which revealed that a security guard in Kasimpur area of Aligarh matched Rajender's profile. 'After sustained efforts, they successfully traced Rajender to Kasimpur, Aligarh, where he had been hiding in an isolated room and working as a security guard at a local pump house. He was apprehended,' DCP Gautam said. Living under the radar in Kasimpur, Rajender is named in 12 prior cases, including that of murder, kidnapping, and robbery. The police believe that he might be involved in four more murder cases in Delhi and Gurugram, for which he is yet to be convicted. On May 19, the same Crime Branch team led by Inspector Rakesh Sharma arrested Devender Sharma, a 67-year-old Ayurvedic doctor from Aligarh, who was sentenced to life in seven cases of kidnapping and murdering taxi drivers between 2002 and 2004. In 2023, he was serving his sentence in Tihar Jail when he was granted parole and vanished. Before his arrest, Sharma practised medicine at the Janta Clinic in Bandikui in Rajasthan for 11 years. In 1994, he was scammed out of Rs 11 lakh — his entire life savings — after he attempted to open a gas dealership, said the police. The police said Sharma returned home to Aligarh, where he operated a fake gas agency. He began targeting truck drivers — killing them to steal gas cylinders they were transporting from different suppliers to Aligarh, said the police. The bodies would be disposed of in rivers. Between 2002 and 2004, the police said Sharma — who had a gang by now — was responsible for the abduction and murder of numerous taxi drivers. His modus operandi, the police said, involved hiring taxis from Delhi. He then killed the driver and dumped the body in the crocodile-infested Hazra Canal in Kasganj. The stolen taxis were then sold in the grey market for Rs 20,000-Rs 25,000 each. Sharma was arrested and charged with the murders of 21 taxi drivers, although he later admitted to killing more than 50 people, said the police. As the police could never recover the bodies of the victims, Sharma would be given life imprisonment for the murders of only seven victims.
