The acclaimed composer, actor, and producer has bagged the National Film Award for Best Music Direction (Songs) for the Tamil-Telugu bilingual Vaathi, adding another prestigious feather to his already decorated cap. Known for his emotionally rich and melodically strong scores, Prakash took to social media shortly after the announcement, calling it 'a blessing for the second time.'In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), G V Prakash thanked the 71st National Awards jury and selection committee, along with the entire team of Vaathi. He expressed special gratitude to actor Dhanush, his long-time collaborator, for bringing him on board the project. Their creative partnership, which spans films like Polladhavan, Asuran, Vaathi, and the upcoming Idly Kadai, has been 'creatively fulfilling and rewarding,' he also credited director Venky Atluri for inspiring him to deliver his best and trusting him with the film's music. Venkatesh and singer A. R. Reihana, who is also the elder sister of legendary music director A. R. Rahman.

GV Prakash Kumar CHENNAI: Tamil cinema scored big at the 71st National Film Awards announced on Friday, with composer GV Prakash Kumar bagging the best music director award for Vaathi, starring Dhanush. This marks his second national award for music after Soorarai Pottru. Harish Kalyan–MS Bhaskar starrer Parking emerged as one of the biggest winners, clinching the best Tamil film award for 2023. Veteran actor MS Bhaskar won best supporting actor award for his performance in the film, while writer-director Ramkumar Balakrishnan bagged award for the best screenplay for the same. The awards, announced by the information and broadcasting ministry, honour films and performances across India that were released in 2023. As anticipation grows for the first single from 'Idly Kadai' starring Dhanush, a video of the actor and music composer GV Prakash Kumar jamming together has gone viral. Watch the video here: 'Idly Kadai', Dhanush's fourth directorial venture, was earlier scheduled for a box office clash with Ajith Kumar's 'Good Bad Ugly'. However, the makers opted to postpone the release to Diwali 2025 to avoid competition. The film features an ensemble cast including Nithya Menen, Arun Vijay, Shalini Pandey, Prakash Raj, Sathyaraj, and Parthiban, and is backed by Dhanush's production house, Wunderbar this month, the film made headlines after a fire broke out on set in Anupapatti village, Theni district. The incident occurred shortly after the production team had moved locations. No injuries were reported, and the crew was safely evacuated. The cause of the fire is still under Dhanush was last seen in 'Kuberaa', a social thriller that featured Nagarjuna Akkineni and Rashmika Mandanna. Abbas to make a comeback in Tamil films after 11 years
The director also informs that the actor will be sporting a new look in the film, and will be part of the film's current schedule that's underway in Pollachi. Actor Abbas, who was last seen in Tamil films in the 2014 film Ramanujan , is all set to make his comeback. The '90s heartthrob will be playing a key role in a comedy entertainer, starring GV Prakash Kumar and Lover girl Sri Gouri Priya, that will be directed by Maria Raja Elenchezhian. 'I specifically wanted an actor with great looks like Abbas sir for this role. When I reached out to him, he was quite impressed with the script and we decided that this should be his comeback film. We have been in talks for the past five to six months,' shares the debutant director, who assisted director-actor Pradeep Ranganathan in Love Today and was also part of the writing team of Dragon. While he admits it's too early to reveal anything about Abbas's role, Maria Raja adds, 'All I can say for now is that it won't be a cliched one like a villain, which is what actors making a comeback usually get.' The former couple came together professionally for a live performance dedicated to late lyricist Na Muthukumar. It was their first public appearance together since their divorce in 2024. GV Prakash Kumar made his singing debut with Rahman's music for the film Gentleman in 1993 while Saindhavi made her film debut in 2004 with the song Andangaka Kondakari from Anniyan.
