2024 Lexus GX 550 Road Trip Review: 1,000 Miles of Comfort and Annoying Driver Tech

The rest of it Fuel economy was disappointing considering the amount of time spent on the highway. On this trip, we achieved the best average to date: 19.7 mpg. Remember, the GX is rated at 17 mpg combined (15 city/21 highway). The turning radius was amazing. I could flip a U-turn on most residential streets in my area. This must help a lot with maneuvering off-road, but I kept on pavement this time. That said, our team will be sure to bring the Overtail off-road over the course of our yearlong test. The pop-out cargo area window was a feature I didn't realize I needed until I had it. Three one-gallon jugs of water got pinned against the cargo hatch door when I wasn't looking. Had I not opened the window first for a peek, it could've been trouble when I opened the hatch door. I should add that at 6 feet tall, the window is a perfect height for me. I could see it being less useful for shorter humans. Finally, two oddities. First, I was in a drive-thru and the front proximity sensor chimed an alert, then stopped, then repeated five or six times. The distance shouldn't have triggered the sensor to begin with, and considering that the car was stationary during the freakout left me scratching my head. Second, there was a water drainage quirk. The GX roof drainage rail lines up in such a way that, when I opened the rear door and reached inside, a stream of cold morning dew dripped down the back of my neck. When I wasn't blocking its path, the water flowed right onto the carpet. That shouldn't happen.

General Index & ATOBA Energy Announce SAF Pricing Partnership

LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- General Index (GX) and ATOBA Energy are excited to announce their strategic partnership, bringing a brand-new vision of how Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) benchmarks are built. SAF indexes need to be tailored to the unique cost profiles of diverse production technologies, delivering the right information required to scale the SAF industry for aviation goal of net zero by 2050. 'Creating transparent and technology-specific SAF price benchmarks is critical to scaling sustainable aviation fuel markets" Share For more than half a century, the aviation industry has relied on traditional price reporting services to manage exposure to price risks in the fossil jet fuel market. But the SAF revolution demands a new approach. Unlike traditional fuels, SAF can be produced from a wide variety of certified technologies, each with distinct feedstocks, costs, CO2 reduction capabilities and production scalability – and, at the end, producing similar drop-in aviation fuels. A one-size-fits-all SAF index isn't fungible in this complex emerging market. ATOBA recognises that the immediate hurdle to overcome is unlocking investment and building confidence in bankable long-term offtake agreements for new production facilities. A key enabler to overcoming this challenge is bringing transparency and a level playing field to the industry through the creation of new SAF price indexes, developed by General Index. Each index will be designed to reflect the unique cost profile of the diverse SAF technologies and aggregated to create a benchmark that aligns with regulatory frameworks, regional nuances and market needs. Neil Bradford, CEO & Founder, General Index, said: ' Creating transparent and technology-specific SAF price benchmarks is critical to scaling sustainable aviation fuel markets. We're already a benchmark partner to the European Commission for the official 2024 Aviation Fuels Reference Prices for ReFuelEU Aviation. Now, by partnering with ATOBA Energy, we're helping to build the foundational infrastructure needed to attract investment, support offtake agreements, and accelerate the aviation industry's transition to net zero.' Arnaud Namer, CEO & Co-Founder ATOBA Energy, said: ' Unlocking investment in sustainable aviation fuel starts with transparency, market confidence, and trusted pricing tools. That's why we're proud to partner with General Index to introduce a new generation of SAF price benchmarks tailored to the real cost structures of emerging SAF technologies. These benchmarks are critical to ensuring SAF is competitively priced for airlines—an advantage we deliver thanks to our diversified portfolio of best-in-class SAF producers and long-term offtake aggregation strategy.' Bank of America double upgrades this little-known eye care stock poised to pop 40%

National Vision is looking to a strong second half of the year, according to Bank of America. Analyst Robert Ohmes double upgraded shares to buy from underperform on Wednesday, citing "multiple signs" that the eyewear company's strategic initiatives improving results. Ohmes' new price target of $22 per share, up from $13, implies the stock might soar 41% compared to Wednesday's close. National VIsion benefited from better pricing and employee recruitment in its latest quarter, according to Ohmes. Customer traffic turned positive last quarter and appears to be continuing. Among the catalysts: "New advertising, a widening selection of $99+ eyeglass frames (including Ted Baker, GX by Gwen Stefani and a Ray Ban pilot) and the rollout of a new [customer relations management software] system that will support improved marketing," Ohmes wrote in the 7-page report. Moreover, the company is "well positioned" to withstand the effect of higher tariffs, the analyst said. National Vision guided toward a headwind of $10 million to $15 million in additional product costs for 2025. Wall Street analysts estimate National Vision's 2025 revenue will total $1.93 billion, FactSet says. "Importantly, less than 10% of EYE's [cost of goods sold] is exposed to China and pricing actions that began in 4Q have supported increased ticket without degradation in conversion or net promoter scores, implying room to mitigate tariffs," Ohmes said. —CNBC's Michael Bloom contributed to this report.

Toyota is giving its Corolla Cross a makeover for 2025, complete with updated styling, tech enhancements across the range and a new GR Sport variant topping the lineup. Available soon, the Corolla Cross receives a refreshed front bumper and grille design, new exterior colours and upgraded equipment levels. The GR Sport variant (pictured below, and arriving around August) replaces the current Limited AWD model and brings with it some dynamic enhancements. According to Andrew Davis, Toyota New Zealand's Chief Strategic Officer, the Corolla Cross has carved out a niche in the local compact SUV market by combining the practicality of a small SUV with the dependability of the Corolla nameplate. 'The Corolla Cross has been a welcome addition to the Corolla family, bringing all the attributes of the legendary and reliable Corolla with the convenience of a higher ride and extra cargo space,' Davis said. While the front-wheel-drive GX, GXL, and Limited variants gain new styling and safety updates, the GX and GXL now benefit from additional driver assistance features.
