Vijayawada: The Siddhartha educational institutions are dedicated to training the youth to excel in various fields by honing their skills, said Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan. He was the chief guest at the inauguration of the All India Invitational Volleyball Tournament, which began on Monday at the PB Siddhartha Arts and Science College grounds and will run until August 14. Malineni Rajaiah, president of the Siddhartha Academy of General and Technical Education, urged students to maintain focus in both their studies and sports, emphasising the importance of developing sportsmanship in life. During the event, the academy honoured former students and national-level athletes, including PV Ramana (father of PV Sindhu) and G Pradeep. They were felicitated by president Rajaiah, secretary Paladugu Lakshmana Rao, joint secretary Nimmagadda Lalitha Prasad, Principals Dr Meka Ramesh and Ch Venkateswarlu, and Director V Babu Rao. On the opening day, the tournament featured several exciting matches, with teams from SRM-EASA (Chennai) playing against Bishop Moore (Kerala), and the Siddhartha Academy team taking on Holy Grace. Other matches included Karpagam (Coimbatore) versus SAI-Gujarat and Loyola (Chennai) against SAI-Trivandrum in both the men's and women's categories.

Vijayawada Municipal Corporation launches Rs 11.84 crore works

VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) rolled out 33 development works worth Rs 11.84 crore across Central, West, and East constituencies on Thursday, commemorating the completion of one year in office. The initiatives are part of a state-wide drive to lay foundation stones and inaugurate infrastructure projects under the State government's developmental agenda. In the Central constituency, MLA Bonda Maheshwarao inaugurated several civic upgrades including new drinking water pipelines, hot mix and paver roads, and drainage systems in Bhanu Nagar, Madhura Nagar, Devinagar, Vinayaka Nagar, and Gunadala. These works, amounting to Rs 8.36 crore, are expected to greatly improve public amenities and connectivity. The West segment saw the replacement of aging water pipelines with new HDPE and GI lines in the 52nd division. Additionally, a compound wall was constructed near Kalyana Mandapam in HB Colony, 43rd division. These projects were taken up with a budget of Rs 3.5 crore. In the East constituency, MLA Gadde Rammohan laid the foundation for cement concrete roads in Krishna Lanka, Srinivasa Nagar, and Bharathi Nagar. At an estimated cost of Rs 2.48 crore, the projects include road development, park enhancement, and public building construction. VMC chief Dhyanachandra HM conducted field inspections at Gandhinagar, Eat Street, Eluru Road Junction, BRTS Road, and MG Road. He assessed sanitation efforts and lauded the upkeep of the Anna Canteen at Dharna Chowk. Emphasising inter-departmental coordination, he directed officials to ensure roads remain clean, garbage is promptly removed, and construction and horticulture waste is managed effectively. He directed nodal officers to maintain defect-free Anna Canteens and regularly monitor sanitation standards to avoid inconvenience to the public.

Vijayawada: The Vijayawada Railway station, which is one of the biggest railway stations in South India will be upgraded to handle two lakh passengers per day by 2061. The Niti Ayog has given the nod to develop the railway station with Rs 850 crore under the PPP mode. So far, the train passenger traffic at Vijayawada railway station is 1.14 lakh per day. During the peak hour, the railway station is handling 9120 passengers on 10 platforms. As per the upgrade, two more platforms will come up and the total number of platforms will be 12. The existing 7 and 8 platforms will be split into 6A, 6B, 7A and 7B. So far, there are eight lifts in the railway station and they will be increased to 30. Commercial area in the railway station is 731 square metres and it will be increased to 69,835 square metres. Two more foot over bridges will be constructed to cater to the needs of the train passengers at the railway station. Till now, nine escalators are in the station and it will be increased to 30. Vehicle parking areas will be increased as part of the upgrade works. Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath on Thursday said the Niti Ayog has given green signal for upgradation of Vijayawada Railway Station with Rs 850 crore under the PPP mode. The MP participated in the developmental works in Division IV in Vijayawada on Thursday along with the Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan. Interacting with the media at the Central Excise Colony, the MP said tenders will be called in next month to award the works for upgradation of railway station. He laid the foundation stone for construction of roads at a cost of Rs 70 lakh in Central Excise Colony.

Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan on Saturday inaugurated Abhyasa Child Development Centre and Adolescent Guidance Clinic, in the city. The clinic led by Dr. Asritha Jonnalagadda, who previously worked at Andhra Hospitals, offers comprehensive services to cater to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, behavioural challenges, and speech and motor delays. According to a release, as an early intervention is crucial in shaping a child's future, the clinic lays the foundation for enhanced cognitive, social, and emotional development, ultimately leading to better academic and behavioral outcomes.
