Dillon Gabriel's first snaps lead to points for the Browns

Dillon Gabriel's first NFL snaps have led to points for the Cleveland Browns against the Philadelphia Eagles. The rookie third-round pick, who got the starting nod today against the Eagles with Shedeur Sanders and Kenny Pickett sidelined due to injury, led a 13-play, 63-yard touchdown drive on the opening possession. After driving into Eagles territory, a 16-yard end-around run by undrafted rookie Gage Larvadain set Cleveland up on the doorstep of the endzone. The drive was capped off with a five-yard touchdown run from rookie running back Ahmani Marshall. A bad snap on the ensuing extra point leaves the Browns with a 6-0 lead over Philadelphia. Gabriel showed decisiveness on his first drive, recovering from an early sack to complete all four of his passes for 29 yards. Gabriel converted on three consecutive third down opportunities through the air on the scoring drive. After fellow rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders impressed in his NFL debut last week, Saturday marks a massive opportunity for Gabriel to showcase why he deserves serious consideration in the Browns' four-man quarterback competition. South Carolina's Gage Larvadain making strong case as NFL wide receiver in training camp

Gage Larvadain wasn't drafted. But the former South Carolina standout is making a real case to have a spot on an NFL roster. Larvadain is shining at Cleveland Browns training camp. The Athletic's Zac Jackson wrote this about Larvadain's play so far: "The camper of the day Saturday was undrafted rookie wide receiver Gage Larvadain, who's made a notable play on most days but made multiple impressive catches Saturday. If Larvadain keeps it up, he'll make the team." Larvadain also posted this wholesome content on X: MORE: Micah Parsons breaks silence on his trade request Larvadain's journey to this point wasn't straightforward. He went to Southeastern Louisiana University out of high school in that state, and he also joined their basketball team as a walk-on. He was the Southland Conference Freshman of the Year and spent two seasons at SELA, including 11 basketball games. After those two years, he transferred to Miami (Ohio), where he had 42 catches for 679 yards and six TDs. After that season, he transferred to South Carolina. With the Gamecocks, he had 19 catches for 223 yards and a touchdown. Larvadain measured just 5-foot-8, 170 pounds at his Pro Day. The Browns signed him on after rookie minicamp because he made an impression there, and so far, he keeps making a good impression. Cleveland has a pretty wide open battle at the back half of its receiving corps. Larvadain can really make the team, and like Jackson wrote, he will if he keeps playing this well. Shedeur Sanders shines at Cleveland Browns training camp

Shedeur Sanders needed to shut out a gigantic heap of noise heading into his first NFL training camp with the Cleveland Browns. Yet, when the lights were the brightest they've ever been on, the young quarterback succeeded. Just the latest example of this was his first day in pads, where he went a perfect 9/9 with two of those completions finding the end zone. By far the best performance by any of the Browns quarterbacks who practiced that day, as none of the others found the end zone once. On one of Sanders' touchdowns, he rolled out to his right and showed off his athleticism to throw a dime to former UFL tight end Salvatore Cannella. Sanders found Cannella with a ton of green ahead of him, and he cruised into the end zone. Sanders' highlight play of the day was his connection deep with Gage Larvadain, who has been connecting with him for touchdowns since rookie minicamp. In a messy pocket, Sanders stayed calm, first backing up and then stepping into his throw to find Larvadian over the head of the safety. With former Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett out with an injury, the stars are aligning for Sanders to get reps with the Browns' first team offense, potentially. If he continues the performances he's having in camp to the preseason, there might already be talk of Sanders getting the starting nod early in his career. The Cleveland Browns open their preseason next Friday against the Carolina Panthers at 5 p.m. MT. Follow Charlie Strella on X, Threads and Instagram.
