Woman's death in Bakersfield house fire ruled an accident
A woman's death in a house fire in Nottingham was accidental, a coroner has Tunstall, 62, died at her home in Ashworth Close, Bakersfield, after a fire broke out at about 21:35 BST on Friday 7 June 2024.A joint police and fire investigation had last year ruled the fire was not suspicious and "attributed to smoking".And at Nottingham Coroner's Court on Wednesday, assistant coroner Sarah Wood concluded the death was accidental.
Following the inquest, fire investigator Chris Navin offered condolences to Ms Tunstall's family and said the fire was a "reminder" of the risks of smoking, adding: "We recommend that if anyone chooses to smoke to do so outside, however, this is not always possible to achieve."If you have to smoke inside, smoking in bed or whilst tired isn't advised, as there is always an enhanced risk of injury."
