RESIDENT ALIEN Recap: (S04E06) Soul Providers

Resident Alien Season 4 Episode 6, 'Soul Providers,' presents a significant step forward for D'arcy and a resolution for Ben and Kate as they're united with their daughter. Harry learns that we're all connected, interwoven in this beautiful tapestry we call life, and he inexplicably grows a soul. The episode also introduces more aliens — which is fun — and ends on quite the familial cliffhanger. Welcome, Alien Daddy. Take me to your leader (I'm serious; I want off this planet). RELATED: Read our recap of the previous Resident Alien episode, 'The Human Condition' Resident Alien, 'Soul Providers' We open with Harry (Alan Tudyk) landing in the chambers of the Galactic Housing Council, a powerful alien council with a ton of universal pull. Apparently, Harry must answer for his crimes. First impressions aren't Harry's forte, and he manages to get multiple jolts for insolence and for swearing. Well, this is some bullsh*t. Next, we learn that Harry stands accused of the following charges: Refusing to leave Earth, sabotaging the Greys' Yellowstone operation, kidnapping a human baby, harboring a Grey stowaway (Bruce) and (inadvertently) unleashing a Mantid into the universe. If the verdict is guilty, Harry will be sent to Morea — a slow, agonizing death in a noxious acid pit. She barges into his cabin, where Bridget is feasting on dry cereal while watching TV. The dream. She informs Bridget that Harry is missing, but there's a language barrier. Elsewhere, D'arcy (Alice Wetterlund) and Judy (Jenna Lamia) retrace their steps from the night before. The money from the diner — that Asta gave to D'arcy to take to the bank — is MIA. How does $2,000 vanish? D'arcy realizes she didn't do the bank drop for The 59 either. RELATED: TV Review: Resident Alien Season 4 Judy decides to get into the Judy of last night's mindset by imbibing. She's a true character actor. She recalls the hot selfies they took near the pool table. However, they look significantly less sexy once the beer goggles are off. In one pic, they spot a pair of unidentifiable black combat boots. Perhaps that's a clue. Humans are the only beings with souls in the universe, and infants are the purest. These souls can grant the Greys longevity, immortality — and they're great for incorporating into wrinkle cream. Up Your Butt With a Coconut After more painful jolting, Harry discloses the location of Ben and Kate's baby: the Ute Reservation. Well, before he tells the Galactic Housing Council that it's 'up your butt with a coconut.' I'm gonna have to steal that. Then, Harry learns that the Council has his alien energy. They confiscated it since the Greys stole it without a permit. RELATED: 10 Out-of-This-World Predictions for Resident Alien Season 4 Now, Harry can get it back if he can do one thing: dispose of the Mantid he unleashed. Harry vows to kill the Mantid and bring his corpse to the Council as proof. Then, he'll have that sweet AE (alien energy) again. Huzzah! Double points because the Mantid is already dead, and Harry knows the location of the body. Easy, peasy, lemon squeezy. Then, back on Earth, Asta accompanies Harry to the Mantid's grave. She's appalled that the Greys are harvesting human baby souls. Souls are the fabric of the universe. When humans die, they become everything — the soil, the trees, the water. Harry doesn't quite understand this. Alien Evidence Board Elsewhere, Mike (Corey Reynolds), Liv (Elizabeth Bowen), Ben (Levi Fiehler) and Kate (Meredith Garretson) put together a pretty bangin' alien-themed evidence board. Kate still insists that D'arcy was on the Greys' Moon base. Then, there's the chip in Ben's foot. Joseph being an alien. The Mantid. It's all connected somehow. RELATED: All Is Not Well in Patience in Resident Alien Season 4 Trailer Liv divulges some big news: Peter Bach is alive. However, he reaches out to Liv when he wants to talk to protect her. Kate feels comforted knowing that someone who can see aliens is out there and could help them. Uh, ma'am, your son has been seeing aliens since day one. RESIDENT ALIEN — 'Soul Providers' Season 4 Episode 6 — Pictured: (l-r) Alice Wetterlund as D'Arcy Bloom, Kaylayla Raine as Jay — (Photo by: James Dittiger/USA Network) Next, D'arcy and Judy are at the diner. Asta's not there. In fact, D'arcy has been ignoring Asta's calls and put her on silent. Judy Googles the combat boots and devises a plan to figure out who in town purchased a pair when Jay (Kaylayla Raine) saunters up in shoes identical to the ones in the photo. She reveals that D'arcy and Judy visited the diner last night. D'arcy told Jay that she had a bag of money and wanted the latter to meet her in the town from The Shawshank Redemption . The Mantid Is Alive Jay shares that our dynamic drinking duo hit up the clinic to party with Ellen instead. Meanwhile, Max (Judah Prehn) tells Sahar (Gracelyn Awad Rinke) that he's glad the Mantid is dead and buried. Sahar expresses concern re: the 'buried' bit. Mantids are essentially alien mantises, and the moisture of the earth could certainly aid in the molting process. RELATED: New TV Shows This Week (July 6 – 12) Sure enough, Harry and Asta discover the Mantid is gone, with only his skin suit left behind like a souvenir. Now, the Mantid is loose, and he could be anywhere. Uh-oh. Harry's dream of getting back his alien energy grows more distant by the second. Asta's more concerned about Ben and Kate's baby, so they make a beeline for the reservation. RESIDENT ALIEN — 'Soul Providers' Season 4 Episode 6 — Pictured: Judah Prehn as Max Hawthorne — (Photo by: James Dittiger/USA Network) Elsewhere, D'arcy and Judy reunite with Ellen (Diana Bang), who's putting up her feet in Asta's office (and eating her yogurt). Ellen reveals that D'arcy ditched her jacket in some guy's truck. A truck driver who gave our trio a joy ride. Ellen snapped a pic of said truck as he drove away — and while D'arcy and Judy were flashing him. D'arcy attempts to zoom in on the license plate, but it's mostly obscured. Together At the same time, Asta and Harry catch Kayla (Sarah Podemski) as she's about to participate in a powwow. She looks stunning. Kayla urges Harry to take Ben and Kate's baby to the powwow as she and Asta chat. Meanwhile, Kate and Ben decide to transform their guest room into a nursery. They stumble upon Max's old drawings of aliens, including the one of Harry in his doctor's coat. Uh-oh. They put two and two together. RELATED: The Premise and How Star Trek Fans Created Fanfic as We Know It Harry watches the powwow with the baby in his arms. Initially, he struggled to calm the child, but the dancing really soothes her. Harry begins to understand what Asta meant about souls being the fabric of the universe — about how we're all connected. Our resident alien remarks that the energy in the room is palpable and infectious. There, he reunites with Grandma Ruth (Edna Manitowabi). Harry thinks he's feeling 'big feelings.' Ruth remarks that if he's thinking, he's not feeling. So, how does he feel? Harry states he feels connected with everything. 'Nanima,' Ruth responds. She explains that it means 'together.' We're all connected to all things. Harry admits that he feels like he has found something he needed. Aw. I love this scene. Police Reports, Powwows and Alien Drawings Meanwhile, D'arcy and Judy attempt to file a police report. D'arcy claims $2,000 was stolen from her. Mike and Liv question them. Their consensus? D'arcy and Judy were drunk, and chances are, this truck driver is long gone. RELATED: Read our SurrealEstate recaps Asta and Kayla arrive at the powwow. Harry shares his revelations about connection. He feels that thread tying him to the baby. Asta insists they must leave, though, as she grabs the child. Harry lingers, clearly wanting to stay. He feels at home. Then, Ben and Kate ask Max about his alien drawings. Without going into the details of their abductions, Kate asks Max if Harry is an alien. Max recalls the moment Harry lost his alien energy, and he was just a human man. Max decides to tell the truth that applies to this moment: No, Harry's not an alien. Elsewhere, Harry informs Asta that he has a plan to capture and kill the Mantid, but he'll save it for the morning. RESIDENT ALIEN — 'Soul Providers' Season 4 Episode 6 — Pictured: Alice Wetterlund as D'Arcy Bloom — (Photo by: James Dittiger/USA Network) Who Are You? Next, Asta gets a call from the bank. She learns that the money from the diner wasn't deposited. Uh-oh. Speaking of the diner, Kate and Liv go out for a bite. Kate admires Liv's ability to think positively. D'arcy and Asta reunite. D'arcy lies about depositing the money, claiming she did this along with the bank drop for The 59. Perhaps it was just an error on the bank's part. Asta believes her. RELATED: Revival : Check Out 9 First-Look Photos From Melanie Scrofano-Led Series Next, Asta tells D'arcy about Harry's situation and the Mantid, but D'arcy isn't listening. She excuses herself. After this, Harry starts labeling items he wants to give to his friends. He's not confident in his ability to find and kill the Mantid while human, so Morea is in his future. D'arcy barges into his cabin. She needs someone to talk to. D'arcy admits that she's not in a good place. She's afraid to be alone. Then, she tells Harry about her night and how she lost Asta's bank drop. D'arcy lied to Asta about depositing it, and the latter believed her. Harry doesn't understand. Isn't this a good thing? D'arcy explains that Asta always sees through her lies. So, if Asta can believe the lie, what does that make D'arcy? Who is she? Keep Going This line of thinking for her makes sense. D'arcy spent her life trying to make everyone else happy, especially her parents, while putting herself through hell to be an Olympic athlete. She worries about what people think of her. RELATED: Geek Girl Authority Crush of the Week: Asta Twelvetrees D'arcy wonders if she should exist. She believes Asta and the rest of the town would be better off if she weren't in their lives. Oh, my sweet D'arce. 'I don't feel good about my life. Why should I keep going?' she asks Harry. This is painfully, painfully relatable. (To anyone reading this, you are worthy. You deserve to exist and to live .) Harry admits his answer would be different if she'd asked him this when he landed on Earth. However, he's changed. Our titular alien sees the value of human life. He explains Nanima to D'arcy. They're all connected. If D'arcy weren't here, the world would be incomplete. Aw. Then, Harry learns from D'arcy that he has a soul. They grow up so fast! D'arcy admits that being human is hard. Harry counters that perhaps it isn't so challenging, but that humans make it hard. True that. RESIDENT ALIEN — 'Soul Providers' Season 4 Episode 6 — Pictured: Alan Tudyk as Harry Vanderspeigle — (Photo by: James Dittiger/USA Network) Believe in Magic Meanwhile, Liv leads Kate to a tree where her aunt used to take her as a kid. They would leave peppermints for fairies. Kate believes in aliens, but she draws the line at magic. Liv still returns to this tree when she needs a dose of it, though — the magic we can't see, even though it exists all around us. RELATED: Read our Resident Alien recaps Harry returns to the Galactic Housing Council headquarters. Yes, he failed to catch the Mantid. But if the Council restores his alien energy, he can track down and kill the Mantid himself. At full strength. And if he fails, he'll give himself over to the Greys. Why? Because he grew a soul. Harry, a grown man and former alien, grew a soul from scratch. Harry would rather the Greys harvest his soul than continue to kidnap babies. The Council accepts this deal. On Earth, Mike drops off a deposit bag at the diner and hands it to Jay. He reveals that it's the money D'arcy claimed was missing. An inebriated D'arcy put the bank drop in the mailbox by the bank. So, she almost did the right thing. Meanwhile, D'arcy wanders the streets of Patience that night. She sees a sign for an AA meeting and decides to attend. That's our girl. Reunions Then, Asta and Kayla return Ben and Kate's baby. Naturally, Kate and Ben are over the moon. Of course, they don't know that Asta and Kayla are behind the baby delivery. Back at the GHC headquarters, Harry learns he can have his alien energy back, but only if he has a conservator, one who will administer that energy at their discretion. We see a large alien that resembles Harry's alien form swarm into view. This is Harry's dad. It's a family reunion. Resident Alien drops new episodes every Friday at 10 pm ET on Syfy and USA Network.
