Will City case open door for Chiefs to sneak into top eight?
Mpambaniso made over 20 appearances for Gallants in the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season. Relegated CapeTown City could reclaim their top-flight after the SAFA arbitrator ruled in their favour in the case against Marumo Gallants. City filed a case against Gallants, arguing that midfielder Monde Mphambaniso was not properly registered. WATCH – Pirates poke fun at Chiefs over MTN8 failure Following their relegation from the Betway Premiership at the end of the 2023/24 season, Gallants bought the status of Moroka Swallows. They then sold their Motsepe Foundation Championship status to Leruma United. Gallants then needed to get a clearance certificate from Leruma and it was allegedly not issued Mphambaniso made over 20 appearances for Gallants in the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season. PSL DC to initiate investigation On Monday, SAFA Arbitrator Nazeer Cassim SC ruled that the PSL disciplinary committee should initiate an investigation into Mphambaniso's eligibility. 'Gallants was represented before and I expressed misgivings about the competence of the official who completed the registration form on behalf of the player. 'A degree of competence would have made it clear that the player seeks to be registered for Marumo Gallants Football Club in the PSL and that he was last registered for Marumo Gallants Football Club in the NFD, which became Leruma Football Club FC on 30 June 2024. 'A little effort would have clarified these features of the registration form. But fundamentally flawed is the fact that no clearance certificate was issued to the League,'said CAssim as quoted by SABC Sport. If found guilty, Gallants could be docked points in all the games Mphambaniso participated in and this could see City, who were relegated via the playoffs, return to the Betway Premiership. Chiefs lost 2-1 to Gallants at home in the second round of the season in April and Mpambaniso played in that match.

Cape Town City, Gallants case could throw PSL season into chaos
Cape Town City chair John Comitis is not getting excited yet despite his side having won a case at a South African Football Association (Safa) arbitration hearing against Marumo Gallants that could throw the new Premier Soccer League (PSL) season into disarray. The Citizens filed a case against Gallants, arguing midfielder Monde Mphambaniso was not properly registered when signed from the team when it in the Motsepe Foundation Championship (MFC) in the 2023-24 season. They sold that franchise and it which subsequently became Leruma United. Gallants returned to the Premiership ahead of the 2024-25 season by buying the franchise of Moroka Swallows. City alleged Gallants violated Rule 31.8.9.3 of the NSL handbook, which requires a clearance certificate to be submitted to the league in cases where a player has previously been registered as a professional with a member club.

PSL side face points deduction over illegal player saga
PSL side Marumo Gallants could face a heavy points deduction in the Betway Premiership following a major ruling over the registration saga involving midfielder Monde Mphambaniso. Cape Town City filed a formal complaint, claiming that Mphambaniso never received a proper clearance from Gallants' former Motsepe Foundation Championship squad, which was later sold and rebranded as Leruma United. Marumo Gallants returned to South Africa's elite league in July 2024 after acquiring the Premiership status of Moroka Swallows. In doing so, the Bloemfontein-based side offloaded their second-tier status to a new ownership consortium, who renamed the club Leruma United. However, the transfer of Mphambaniso between these entities has now sparked controversy. In the 2024/2025 campaign, Gallants finished 10th in the league with 32 points from 28 matches, a return of 8 wins, 8 draws, and 12 defeats. Mphambaniso featured in 26 of those games. Cape Town City argued that Marumo Gallants breached NSL Rule 31.8.9.3, which states that clubs must submit a clearance certificate for any player previously registered as a professional. According to the arbitration ruling, Gallants failed to provide the necessary documentation for Mphambaniso. 'City alleges that Marumo Gallants violated Rule 31.8.9.3 of the NSL handbook, which requires a clearance certificate to be submitted to the league in cases where a player has previously been registered as a professional with a member club.' SAFA's arbitration ruled in favour of Cape Town City. Paving the way for the Premier Soccer League's disciplinary committee to launch an official investigation. A guilty verdict could see Gallants lose points from matches in which Mphambaniso played, potentially altering the final league standings. Despite failing to survive the Promotional/Relegation Playoffs, which Orbit College won. Cape Town City are now banking on this case to reclaim their place in the top tier. 'This is their final attempt to maintain their top-flight status.' If the PSL rules in City's favour, Gallants could be forced into the playoffs or even face automatic relegation. With the season set to begin soon, the pressure mounts for both clubs as the disciplinary process gains momentum. Will the PSL side Cape Town City get back to the top flight? Orlando Pirates star sends emotional farewell message to fans
Orlando Pirates are reshuffling their squad. Veterans Paseka Mako and Miguel Timm are two of the players who have left. Former Gallants, Chippa and Wits midfielder Miguel Timm is moving on to new pastures after three years with Pirates. The schemer has opened up on his exit from the Buccaneers. Details: Saleng returns to Orbit College 'I'm writing this with a smile, reflecting on my past 3 years with Orlando Pirates. Thank you to the Chairman for allowing me to carry the burdens and hopes of millions of the Orlando Pirates family. 'Thank you to everyone I've crossed paths with during that time, creating unforgettable memories and relationships with the technical team and my teammates. I still share a special bond with them today. 'I've fulfilled my duties, and what I was brought to the club to do, which was to contribute to bringing back silverware on a regular basis and seeing the happy people like never before! I tried to understand everyone and everything that is a part of this big institution and embody what being a Buccaneer is, as best as I could from the day I arrived to my very last day at the club. 'A special mention to the best supporters!!!! Thank you for allowing me to represent millions of you over the years; you will always have a special place in my heart. Once, Always.' Attacking midfielder Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo has been on the fringes since his move in 2022. Time is officially up for the diminutive former Marumo Gallants star. Monnapule Saleng's exile from the first team at Pirates has been a puzzling issue. Now, with the signing of Oswin Appollis and the continuing emergence of Mohau Nkota, his pathway to first-team football is blocked. The board is presumably protecting the player's future resale value, especially if he impresses while out on loan and attracts bids for his services. Don't overcommit, warns Sello as Gallants change hands
Marumo Gallants head coach Lafitte Alexandre, chairman Abram Sello and assitant coach Julen Outrebon. Photo: BackpagePix Image: Backpagepix Maumo Gallants chairman Abram Sello is like a cat with nine lives - he continues to survive the whirlwind of businessmen who buy a PSL status only to fail in the end. Sello burst into the local football scene in 2021 after buying the status of Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila who had just bought Bidvest Wits. His joy in top-flight football was short-lived due to poor administration, resulting in Gallants being relegated to the second tier division after two seasons. Sello's bogus administration then included being unable to cater for the team's needs on the continent during their CAF Confederation Cup's campaign As such, this resulted in two club officials being detained in Libya due to the money Sello owed to a notorious businessman who had footed his hotel bill. Before the season ended, the club and the players were allegedly on loggerheads over bonus rows after the team qualified for the Confederation Cup semi-final. Sello stayed for one season in the national first division before resurfacing in the top-flight last season after buying the status of Moroka Swallows. Video Player is loading. As such, Gallants will have arch-rivals Siwelele FC in Bloemfontein next season after the son of sports minister, Gayton McKenzie, Calvin Le John, bought SuperSport United. Sello, though, has advised what Le John and other new chairmen must do and avoid in order not to make the same mistake he did when he arrived in the PSL. 'The challenge at the top, as we know, is finance,' Sello said. 'Finance can be run by an individual - auditors - so get the right people to advise you. 'Secondly, commit what you can. Don't be overwhelmed and sit at the corner and satisfy conditions that'll haunt you. Yes must be yes, and no must be no. 'Don't look at what the club has been doing - look at what you can do, who's advising you and the calibre of players you keep at the club.' Sello added it's hard to run a football club without a sponsor in the PSL, and that's why some bosses end up forking up monies from their own pockets to run operations. 'This is a very difficult position to be in,' Sello admitted. 'Our chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza, used to say as a chairman you are always working hard. 'You throw your last cent into the club. When your son comes and asks for R5 you say you don't have it, but when a player asks for R6 you give him immediately. 'So, that's how it is. It is about passion and developing other people's careers. But it's not a child's play - it's very difficult, especially financially. 'You have to prove that you can get the sponsors, and all those particular things. But at the end of the day, you go home with your subsidies to supplement the monthly grant. 'It's not as easy as one may think. It's nice to watch the game on TV, but to run things behind the scenes, you definitely don't sleep.' Now a bit wiser after paying his school fees for misadministration, Sello has revealed how he managed to slightly change things around last season. 'I think the mistake that we do as the leaders of the clubs is to overcommit according to the people you are sourcing,' Sello explained. 'Don't overcommit according to the people you are outsourcing. Don't go over your line of expenditures. Not everybody will laugh. Commit to what you can afford. 'Also, satisfy your people. You are as good as your employees. So, satisfy the people around you. There'll be problems, but be ready to solve them. 'There'll be some disputes, but be ready to go and answer before the disciplinary committee. And amicably sort everything out.'
