THE LAST OF US Season 2 Showrunner Was 'Terrified' to Film Joel's Brutal Death; 'What Bella Did There Was Pretty Shattering' — GeekTyrant

If you've played The Last of Us Part II , you probably still carry the emotional scar of Joel's brutal death at the hands of Abby. It's one of the most talked-about moments in gaming, and as you know, it made its way into HBO's second season of The Last of Us . Showrunner Craig Mazin recently spoke about the pressure of bringing that moment to life for the screen—and the emotional gravity it carries. He said: 'I think the one that I was the most eager to create on screen and terrified to create on screen was Joel's death, and specifically, really, when I think about it, it wasn't so much the mechanics of Joel dying—you don't want to recapture what somebody did, but what Ashley Johnson did in the game is heart rending. 'Something like that is so traumatic and binds you to this character in a way that you weren't bound before... you were bound in a different way to that character before—you were bound to Ellie in season one in the first game, as the person that Joel loved after being unable to love for so long. 'Well, here we're bound to Ellie now in a very different way. And what Bella did there was pretty shattering.' The emotional weight Bella Ramsey brings to Ellie is meant to reshape how we connect to the character on screen. While some game-to-screen adaptations soften their edges, The Last of Us has leaned in on the intensity, knowing that this is a turning point not just for Ellie, but for the entire story moving forward. In the game, Joel's murder is jarring partly because of how little explanation the player gets. Abby's rage is felt, but not fully understood until later. On the show, the pacing shifts. The adaptation leans into clarity, with Abby (played by Kaitlyn Dever) revealing her motives as she stands over Joel. She tells him about the 18 soldiers—and the 'unarmed doctor' he killed. That doctor was her father. And with chilling calm, she lets Joel know exactly what's about to happen. Joel's death lands in Episode 2 of The Last of Us season 2, now streaming on HBO and it's a gut-punch, but it's also the narrative fuel for everything to come. So, how did you feel seeing that scene play out on screen? Did it hit you the same way as the game—or differently? Via: GamesRadar+

Doctor Who star 'had his eye on' Fantastic Four role that went to Pedro Pascal

David Tennant has revealed he had been eyeing up a starring role in Fantastic Four before it went to Pedro Pascal. The Doctor Who legend, 54, is no stranger to saving the world – hey, the universe – as the titular Time Lord, which he has played up until 2023. But, as the Scottish actor looks to the next phase of his career, he shared that he has been ready to swap the Tardis out for the lab after looking into playing superhero Reed Richards – an inventor with the power of elasticity. 'In terms of superheroes, I did slightly have my eye on Reed Richards and unfortunately, it looks like they've gone in a different direction,' the Genius Game host explained at MCM Comic Con in London. He added: 'Although if it has to be someone, I'm very happy for it to be Pedro Pascal. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. He's not giving up hope quite yet although he acknowledged it might take a while for the opportunity to arise again. 'I would have quite liked to be Reed Richards. I'd quite like to be able to do all that,' the star said while stretching his arm out, per Games Radar. 'So I'll stick with that even though it's gone, even though it's gonna be a while before there's another go at that, I think, unfortunately,' he concluded. The Last of Us star, 50, eventually landed the gig to star as Mister Fantastic in The Fantastic Four: First Steps opposite Vanessa Kirby as Susan Storm. Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm. Some fans have pointed out on Reddit that, given that David has previously appeared in the Marvel Universe as supervillain Kilgrave in the Jessica Jones series, it would have been difficult to re-appear in a different role anyway. Although others have reflected that he could have made a magnificent go at playing the Maker – Reed Richards' supervillain alter-ego. Fans also shared their disappointment that we wouldn't see David in the role, with Rocketeer1019 writing: 'He would have been amazing, idk how they ignored this option.' 'I like Pedro, but damn this could have been amazing casting,' Binro_was_right echoed. Both actors have built a huge fanbase over recent years, especially as vocal trans allies with David recently sharing his commitment to trans rights on ITV's The Assembly and Pedro showing up to a premiere with the shirt 'Protect The Dolls'. Although David won't be appearing in Fantastic Four – as far as we know – he does remain booked and busy including a final appearance in Amazon Prime's Good Omens. More Trending His game show with ITV, Genius Game, has underperformed with it being labelled the broadcaster's 'most expensive flop' reportedly resulting in a schedule change after it failed to pull in huge viewing figures. He is also set to star in Netflix's adaptation of Richard Osman's bestselling novel, The Thursday Murder Club, as Ian Ventham opposite Celia Imrie, Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan. And, of course, there is the second season of Disney+'s The Rivals which garnered huge success. Fantastic Four arrives in UK cinemas on July 25, 2025. Got a story? Blades Of Fire Review Round-Up & Release Date Info

Blades of Fire Blades of Fire caught my eye. A few months back, I was looking through the latest posts from the gazillion YouTube channels I subscribe to, and I saw a trailer for 505 Games' new fantasy, third-person action title. I love third-person action games with large enemies and good combat, and while I hadn't heard of MercurySteam's Blades of Fire up to that point, I was interested as the art style and overall vibe piqued my interest. I still haven't played it, though I plan to put some time in once it releases. However, I have done some research to gather the impressions from others in the industry. I'll share those here, but first, here is the release information you need to know if you're interested in trying the game yourself. Some have praised the weapons-forging system, while others have said that it is a mild distraction from a disjointed story and an overly simplistic combat system. IGN's Jada Griffin loves the 'superb crafting' of weapons but laments the title's 'uneven story and combat that lacks real depth.' FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder Griffin slammed the title with a harsh 5 out of 10 rating. While acknowledging a few of the same issues Griffin pointed out, Tom Orry of Eurogamer wrote this in his review: Orry scored the game 4 out of 5 stars. Abbie Stone of GamesRadar also gave it 4 out of 5 stars and gushed over the diverse experience the game provides: On the downside again, Slant's Justin Clark absolutely slammed Blades of Fire for a lack of enjoyment: As you may have guessed, Clark scored the title low. To be specific, he gave it two stars on a five-star scale. Whenever scores are this mixed on a title from major publications, it tells me one thing: I need to play it for myself. As is the case with everything, it likely comes down to preference and what you're in the mood to play. I'd be lying if I said I was fired up to spend a bunch of time crafting weapons in search of a major payoff. That's not normally why I'd play a game like Blades of Fire. I'm also worried about the cutscenes leaving a lot to be desired. Still, I'm going to give it a whirl and I'll let you know my thoughts.

Dominique Thorne Talks About Her Marvel Character IRONHEART and How She Will Do Without Her Mentor Tony Stark — GeekTyrant

Dominique Thorne first appeared in the MCU in the 2022 sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever , where we were introduced to her character Riri Williams, a genius teen inventor who is following in the footsteps of her hero, Tony Stark, aka Ironman. We will see her return next month as the superhero Ironheart in the upcoming Disney+ series, but without the help of Stark as her mentor, how will she navigate the superhero world? Enter The Hood. Anthony Ramos ( Hamilton ) is set to play The Hood in the show Ironheart , and Thorne talked about his character, describing him as "this mystical, magical sort of entity" in the upcoming issue of SFX magazine, which features M3GAN 2.0 on the cover and hits newsstands on Wednesday, May 21. Thorne explained, "We know that The Hood couldn't be farther apart from Riri in terms of her being a very logical 'show me the facts and run me the numbers' person. 'Coming off the heels of this super vulnerable experience, with her having been imprisoned, that vulnerability presents a very tender opportunity for Riri to make a real and impactful decision about how her genius will impact the world around her. How will it affect the people that she loves? How can it affect her own goals and ambitions?" She went on, "There's a clear understanding that she's not Tony Stark. She does not have a billion dollars at her disposal. She does not have the resources... she doesn't have the mentorship, or the guidance," Thorne says. "And so what does it look like for someone like The Hood to enter her sphere now, where she is vulnerable and reflecting? It does set the stage for a very interesting journey ahead to see the people who pop up as she's working to get those answers and what the scale of their influence can be, if any?" It will be interesting to see what happens with Riri Williams and this mysterious new character, The Hood. Ironheart will hit Disney+ on June 24th. via: GamesRadar+

Final Destination Bloodlines Gives Tony Todd a Proper Goodbye

Final Destination Bloodlines ended up being the last role for Tony Todd, who died of cancer in November at 69. Because Todd knew he was ill going into filming, directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein wanted to give him and his character, William Bludworth, a proper goodbye. Despite his illness, Todd urged the directors to 'not write him out of the movie,' saying he wanted to participate. Stein and Lipovsky shared what it meant to work with Todd in an interview with GamesRadar+. 'When he got there on set, he was so incredibly joyful and excited to be there, and excited to meet the new cast and basically give Bludworth not only a proper ending, but a proper beginning,' Stein said. 'And a proper explanation for who his character is as a person.' William Bludworth first appeared in Final Destination as the coroner who explains the rules of death to the teenagers who face it. Bludworth would also make appearances in Final Destination 2 and Final Destination 5. In Bloodlines, Stein made sure to work with Todd to develop Bludworth's farewell. 'We really worked closely with him to not only give a goodbye in the movie for his character to the other characters, but to craft what we thought might be a goodbye to the audience, because these Final Destination movies take several years to make,' says Stein. 'We knew this would probably be his last Final Destination movie. We didn't realize it would be his last movie. We wanted him to be able to say goodbye. We asked him in that final moment to put it in his own words. You know, put the script away. What do you wanna say to your fans? What has all this been about? You know, what is life about?' Stein called Todd's appearance 'inspirational,' citing that the late actor spoke 'directly from the heart to the audience.' Final Destination Bloodlines arrives in theaters on May 16, 2025.
