Over 1,500 Corporation school students attend higher education orientation in Coimbatore

More than 1,500 students from the Corporation schools in Coimbatore, who had completed their Class XII examinations, participated in a higher education orientation programme, held in the city on Friday, under the State government's Kalloori Kanavu scheme. The event featured stalls from 41 colleges, which showcased a range of higher education opportunities available to students. A special camp was also organised to assist students in obtaining essential documents such as income certificates, community certificates, first-generation graduate certificates, and to update Aadhaar details. A handbook listing colleges in the district and the courses they offer was distributed to students. The booklet is intended to serve as a guide to help them make informed decisions about pursuing higher education. Coimbatore District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar addressed the students, encouraging them to introspect and make use of the orientation camps. 'Self-reflection can lead to success and inspire individuals throughout their journey. Students should make full use of the Kalloori Kanavu initiative, as higher education plays a key role in career development,' he said. The programme featured thematic sessions conducted by subject experts. One session focused on the role of self-confidence in pursuing higher education, while another provided guidance on available scholarship schemes. Insights into paramedical education were also shared. Further sessions covered opportunities in ITI, diploma, engineering, and arts and science programmes. Information on agricultural education was provided by the District Employment Office, and details regarding education loans were shared by a representative from the banking sector. Coimbatore MP Ganapathi P. Rajkumar, Mayor K. Ranganayaki, Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran, and officials from the School Education Department and other departments were present.
