70-year-old man dies after being hit by luxury car, drunk driving suspected
Ahmedabad: A 70-year-old man, Mukulrajmohan Mishra, died after being hit by a BMW allegedly driven by a drunk driver near Arnidesh Bungalows in Gandhinagar's Sargasan area early Thursday. The driver, identified as 30-year-old Vatsal Kariya, a tour operator from Rajkot, was booked by Adalaj police in Gandhinagar. The incident took place around 7 am, when Mishra had stepped out on his scooter to buy milk. According to the police complaint, Mishra's son, Bharatmohan Mishra, received a call from a passerby informing him about the accident. When he rushed to the spot, he found his father had sustained severe head injuries and had already succumbed. The body was sent to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital for postmortem. He was driving a newly purchased BMW that did not yet have a number plate. Kariya had applied for a preferred registration number—9009—which was still pending. Police suspect he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
