Ranchi to Host National Seminar on Cybercrime: Addressing Challenges and Solutions

Ranchi, July 17, 2025 – The Jan Sarokar Social and Economic Empowerment Trust is gearing up to host a national seminar on 'Cybercrime: Problems, Solutions, and Safety' on August 24, 2025, at the Ranchi Press Club. The event aims to confront the escalating threat of cybercrime, which is increasingly impacting individuals, organizations, and governments, posing a significant challenge to democratic societies. Kavita Jha, Chairperson of Jan Sarokar Trust, elaborated on the initiative, stating, 'Our democracy is becoming entangled in the web of cybercrime. The number of victims, both in governmental and non-governmental sectors, is rising daily. This seminar is designed to raise awareness and explore practical solutions to combat this growing menace.' Jha also reflected on the Trust's successful past events, including the Tribal Youth Dialogue at the Ranchi Press Club, which drew over 300 participants, and a two-day Ganga Dialogue held on May 10-11, 2025, at Orevalley Ashram in Rishikesh, attended by 131 participants from across the country. The seminar will feature an impressive lineup of speakers and experts. Key attendees include Amod Kanth, former Director General of Police and founder of Prayas, Ranchi Civil Surgeon Dr. Prabhat Kumar, and noted legislator Rajesh Kachhap. Senior Journalist Vinod Kumar Viplav, India State Head of Jan Sarokar Patrika, will join from Delhi. Other prominent participants include Ranchi Press Club President Surendra Soren, esteemed editor Shambhunath Choudhary, senior journalist and social thinker Priyadarshi Ranjan, senior journalist and founder of Gaon Jawar Sanstha M. Akhlaq, Jan Sarokar's Asia Content Editor Harihar Raghuvanshi, and Nadeem Bhai, founder of Lahu Bolega Sanstha. Raj Anand, Jan Sarokar's Bihar Coordinator, along with several distinguished cybercrime experts, will also share their expertise. The event has secured confirmations from numerous dignitaries, with invitations extended to senior police officials, including Jharkhand's Director General of Police, Anurag Gupta. Sanjay Jha, Editor of Jan Sarokar Patrika, will also participate, reinforcing the event's significance. The seminar will delve into critical aspects of cybercrime, including hacking, phishing, identity theft, and cyber terrorism, which threaten both national security and individual privacy. According to the National Crime Records Bureau, cybercrime cases in India surged to 65,893 in 2022, up from 27,248 in 2018. The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) recorded over 1.5 million complaints in 2023, underscoring the urgency of addressing this issue. Discussions will focus on preventive strategies, legal frameworks such as the Information Technology Act, 2000, and international cooperation through mechanisms like the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime. The Jan Sarokar Trust and Jan Sarokar Patrika aim to foster a collaborative platform to enhance public awareness and strengthen cybersecurity measures. The seminar will also explore capacity-building initiatives, such as India's National Cyber Security Policy and the National Cyber Security Coordination Centre (NCCC), established in 2017 to detect real-time cyber threats. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with experts and policymakers to chart a path toward a safer digital ecosystem.
