Ganesh idols being secured against heavy rain right after arrival
MUMBAI: The season of grand Ganpati aagmans (arrival processions) is in full swing. The tall exquisite idol of the Chinchpokli Cha Chintamani carved by moortikar Siddhesh Dighole arrived at its pandal in Parel Sunday Aug 17 amid an accompanying crowd numbering thousands of people.
Ganeshotsav festivities will unfold from Aug 27 to Sept 6.
In recent years idols are led to their pandals weeks before Ganeshotsav in order that mandals may prepare the surrounding decoration and lighting in time for Ganesh Chaturthi when darshan opens to the public.

And the arrival of the 35 ft tall statue of Lord Vighnaharta was celebrated in Saki Naka, Andheri East. In Chandivali assembly ward no. 162, Shri Krishna Mitra Mandal celebrated the arrival of this statue.
A large crowd of people gathered to catch a glimpse of this enchanting Ganesh, said activist Anil Galgali. The procession ended at the Vighnaharta mandap, passing by Uma Maheshwar temple.
On this occasion, former guardian minister of Mumbai Suburban, Mohammad Arif Naseem Khan, former MP Poonam Mahajan, RTI activist Galgali, Shiv Sena vibhag head Somnath Sangle, Sakinaka division assistant police commissioner Pradeep Mairal and senior PI Sunil Yadav were present along with mandal president Chandrakant Mane.
As soon as all the idols arrived home, though, mandal karyakartas faced the immediate challenge of securing them against the heavy rain that has been soaking the city since the Janmashtami weekend. Pandals are being fortified with plastic and tarpaulin sheets.
