NFL reporter has awkward Deebo Samuel moment after revealing finger injury

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo did not make Deebo Samuel too happy at the end of an NFL Network interview when he appeared to accidentally reveal that the Commanders' new wide receiver was dealing with a finger injury. The awkward moment happened just as the interview was wrapping up and Garafolo began explaining why he wasn't going to shake Samuel's hand. 'Deebo Samuel joined us on Inside Training Camp live. Usually, I give a handshake when a guy leaves,' Garafolo said. Advertisement 3 Deebo Samuel (r.) reacts during an interview with NFL Network. Seeing the unhappy look on Samuel's face or NFL Network analyst Marc Ross, Garafolo paused and asked, 'Oh, was I not supposed to say that?' Ross indicated that he wasn't, and Garafolo attempted to get out of the interview without anymore goofs. Advertisement 'Alright, edit that part out,' Garafolo replied. 'Strike that, it didn't happen. I'll give him a left-handed fist bump. I ain't getting anything now.' 3 Deebo Samuel (r.) participates in an interview at training camp. Samuel's reaction was a bit odd, considering that the jammed finger had already been reported on by others at training camp. Advertisement Samuel apparently jammed the finger after taking a pass from Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels that hit his hands, ESPN reported. The veteran wide receiver was traded to the Commanders this past offseason and is coming off a 2024 campaign with the 49ers in which he recorded 51 catches for 670 yards and three touchdowns. Samuel is hoping to rebound from last season with a Commanders team that is coming off a trip to the NFC Championship game.

Insider gives positive update on Steelers, T.J. Watt contract negotiations

Insider gives positive update on Steelers, T.J. Watt contract negotiations T.J. Watt's minicamp no-show was far from ideal — but insider Mike Garafolo recently provided some reason for hope. On last Tuesday's episode of The Insiders, Garafolo took a more positive stance on the Steelers–Watt situation: 'I don't feel that this one is contentious,' Garafolo said. 'If a player misses mandatory minicamp over the next couple days, you don't have to fine a player. We'll see what the Steelers wind up doing on this one. I know that they feel really good about the talks that they've had and the offers that they've made. … Mike Tomlin has the belief that T.J. Watt is gonna be just fine working away from the facility, so they're not stressing about that part of it. If there was a pressure point right now — and the start of training camp seems like it's a pressure point — I feel like this thing would get done. And it will get done at some point. I don't sense any long-term concerns about T.J. Watt — despite the fact that he's throwing up that peace sign in that picture he posted on Instagram a couple of weeks ago." Despite concerns over whether or not the Steelers are even close to the number Watt is looking for, there seems to be an overreaction stemming from his minicamp absence — one that can be easily alleviated if he shows up at training camp next month. NFL insider: Panthers among teams 'in the mix' for Seahawks WR DK Metcalf

NFL insider: Panthers among teams 'in the mix' for Seahawks WR DK Metcalf The Carolina Panthers seem to be in on a pretty big deal. According to NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo, the Panthers are "in the mix" for a potential trade involving Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf. Garafolo, while on Thursday's episode of the Daily Puck Drop podcast, brought up Carolina as one of at least three teams that are interested in making a move for the two-time Pro Bowl pass catcher. As Garafolo notes, Carolina's current power structure has a few ties to a potential swap. Panthers president of football operations/general manager Dan Morgan began his front office career with the Seahawks and their longtime general manager John Schneider. He spent eight years in Seattle—where he served as a scout (2010), the assistant director of pro personnel (2011 to 2014) and the director of pro personnel (2015 to 2017). In addition, Panthers head coach Dave Canales shared a sideline with Metcalf for four seasons—when the former worked as Seattle's quarterbacks coach in 2019 and 2022 and the passing game coordinator in 2020 and 2021. Metcalf requested a trade from the Seahawks this past Wednesday. The 27-year-old receiver will be entering the final season of his contract in 2025.
