Man in Wisconsin awarded by police department after assisting officer who was trapped in vehicle
PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. (WFRV) – A man in Wisconsin's efforts to assist a police officer trapped in a vehicle during severe weather are being recognized by the officer's department.
The Pleasant Prairie Police Department reported that Officer Thompson was involved in a crash while responding to a report of a shooting on December 20, 2024. The crash occurred during severe winter weather, and his driver's side door was pinned shut, trapping him inside.

Brik Garcia III saw the accident, and immediately ran across Highway 50 despite the bad conditions to check on Officer Thompson. Garcia III called 911 and assisted by opening the passenger side door to free Officer Thompson from the vehicle.
'Brik had no obligation to step in, but his willingness to help in a stressful situation did not go unnoticed,' the Pleasant Prairie Police Department said on Facebook. 'We sincerely appreciate his quick thinking and assistance that day.'

Garcia III's efforts were recognized as he earned a 'Citizen Recognition Award,' to thank him for his kind efforts.
