Tragedy at DUT as student falls from campus building

Tragedy struck at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) Steve Biko campus on Tuesday when a student fell to his death from a building. KZNVIP Protection Services spokesperson Gareth Naidoo said it was understood a student fell from a campus building. 'Authorities are yet to confirm details,' he said. DUT confirmed the incident on its Facebook page. 'DUT is shocked and saddened by the loss of one of our students in Durban this morning [Tuesday]. We convey our condolences to the family, friends and classmates of the young man who has passed away.' The university said police were investigating. 'The name of the student will be released once the next-of-kin have been informed. 'The university has made counselling support available to students and staff. Couple attacked by robbers on N2 near Tongaat Mall

A couple was attacked by three gunmen when their vehicle broke down on the N2 near the Tongaat Toll north of Durban on Wednesday evening. KZN VIP Emergency Medical Team spokesperson Gareth Naidoo said one victim was shot while the other was pistol-whipped. 'After interviews with the victims, KZN VIP reaction officers established that the pair had stopped to attend to a breakdown when they were accosted by three armed male suspects. 'The suspects also opened fire in the direction of the victims before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of valuables,' he said. The victims were treated on the scene before being transported to medical facilities. 'No arrests have been made at this stage and no other injuries were reported,' added Naidoo. TimesLIVE

Gareth Naidoo, from KZN VIP Protection Services, said that upon hearing the commotion, members of the community alerted emergency services. Tragic shooting in Durban: Man killed in possible hijacking attempt. A man was killed in a hail of bullets in the Greenwood Park area of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, on Thursday morning. According to KZN VIP, the victim was exiting a driveway on Avoca Road when a Toyota Etios pulled up alongside his vehicle. KZN VIP spokesperson Gareth Naidoo said an armed suspect alighted from the Etios and opened fire on the victim before fleeing in an unknown direction. Naidoo said medics from KZNVIP and another private ambulance service worked to stabilise the critically injured man.

Three killed in crashes in Durban North and uMhlanga THEREE people have died in two crashes in uMhlanga and Durban North just hours apart. In the early hours of Saturday morning (June 28), a man was declared deceased after a crash on Kenneth Kaunda Road (Northway). The driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, was declared deceased by paramedics. 'On arrival, our responders were met by other private security personnel and first responders already on scene,' explained KZN VIP Paramedics spokesperson Gareth Naidoo. Also read: Smolder in Sea Cow Lake expels toxic fumes 'The driver was severely entrapped in the wreckage and displayed no signs of life. The Fire Department arrived shortly thereafter and stood by pending the arrival of Metro Police to commence further recovery efforts. The individual was declared deceased on the scene.' In a separate incident, in uMhlanga, two people were killed in an accident on the corner of Twilight Drive and Centenary Boulevard. IPSS Medical Rescue responded to the incident which saw two people, one from each vehicle, allegedly ejected in the crash. Paramedics also treated two other patients, one of whom was in a critical condition. The circumstances leading to both crashes are unknown at this stage.
