Forget Prime Day — the best Garmin deal available right now is this Walmart discount on the Epix 2
I review Garmin watches for a living and as part of that I'm also intrigued to see which watches are discounted in big sales events like Amazon Prime Day. As ever, there are some tempting deals available in the Prime Day sale, but as it comes to an end I'd say that the best Garmin discount is Walmart reducing the Garmin Epix 2 to $399. Walmart says the Epix 2 is only reduced from $429 but that does this deal a disservice — Amazon has the MSRP at $899 and while the Epix 2 is an older watch that's always reduced now, it rarely drops below $400 and is still $496 on Amazon for Prime Day. The Garmin Epix 2 is a fantastic sports tracker with an AMOLED display and offline maps, and this deal is on the lighter, more durable sapphire titanium model of the watch. The Garmin Epix 2 first came out in early 2022 and there are newer models like the Garmin Epix Pro and Garmin Fenix 8 to consider, but they'll cost you hundreds of dollars more and the Epix 2 still offers a top-class sports tracking experience. I wore the Epix 2 myself for a year and ran four marathons with it, and it's a very reliable and accurate tracker that offers a lot of useful training analysis and navigation tools including offline maps. It's also a great-looking watch, with an AMOLED display and a lightweight titanium bezel, and it's durable too thanks to the sapphire crystal screen. By opting for the Epix 2 over the newer Garmins you miss out on a few hardware features like a built-in flashlight, a mic and speaker and Garmin's latest optical heart rate sensor. You also can't expect to get software updates that bring new features to the Garmin Epix 2 at this point, but in truth it already has all the features it needs to be a great sports watch. At this price, it can't be bettered, and it's over $200 cheaper than the Garmin Epix Pro is in the Prime Day sale, and $500 cheaper than the Fenix 8. If you want a top Garmin at a great price, this is your best bet.

Forget the Apple Watch Ultra, this is the watch to buy this Prime Day if you're looking to upgrade your running tech. I've run two marathons with the Garmin Epix Pro on my wrist and have been blown away by its bright screen, high-spec features, and comfortable, 42mm design. Right now, the Garmin Epix Pro is on sale for $649 on Amazon, which is the lowest price it's ever reached. Grab it while you still can! The best deal right now is on the 42mm version of the Garmin Epix Pro in this beautiful gold and sand colorway. The watch has a scratch-resistant sapphire lens with a titanium bezel designed for smaller wrists. If you're not bothered about the sapphire lens, the Epix Pro with the standard lens is even cheaper in the Prime Day sales. It's still in the smaller, 42mm size to suit petite wrists. The Garmin Epix Pro is one of the most beautiful Garmin watches I've tested. It's jam-packed with all of Garmin's advanced training metrics, as well as a bright, beautiful screen and a flashlight. The flashlight can be used in situations where you might use your phone's flashlight, but can also be used in certain sports modes, as the flashlight can blink or pulse on a bike ride. There is also a running-specific cadence visibility flashlight, where the watch will flash white as your wrist goes forward, and red as your arm moves back, in order to help keep you safe and seen. The Epix Pro 42mm is neat and comfortable on the wrist, especially compared with larger watches, like the Apple Watch Ultra 2. The battery life is impressive too — the 42mm watch has a battery life of 10 days in smartwatch mode, and 28 hours in GPS mode. While the Epix Pro has now been superseded by the Garmin Fenix 8, it's still an excellent sports watch and much more affordable than the Fenix 8 thanks to this deal. Prime Day ends soon, so grab this while you still can!

Garmin Fenix 7 Pro vs Garmin Epix Pro: which should you get in the early Prime Day sales?
If you're in the market for a new sports watch, looking for deals on older Garmin models is where you'll find the best value. That's especially true as the sales start to heat up ahead of Amazon Prime Day, and two top Garmin watches are significantly reduced right now. The Garmin Epix Pro is reduced to $549.99 from $899.99 on Amazon, while the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro is $449.99 down from $799.99 on Amazon. Those deals are on the standard 47mm models of the watches, but the entire range of both is reduced. You can enjoy a huge discount on any size and style of the Garmin Epix Pro in the Amazon sale right now, with this deal being on the standard 47mm model of the watch. It might be worth paying the extra for a sapphire watch though, because they are lighter and more durable, and you get a battery life bump if you opt for the bigger 51mm Epix Pro, but it's bulkier on the wrist. The entire Garmin Fenix 7 Pro is reduced on Amazon right now, with this saving being on the standard 47mm watch. There are three sizes to pick between, with the largest 51mm watch having the best battery life, and you can also opt for a standard or sapphire model — the latter are more expensive but also lighter and more durable thanks to a titanium bezel. Both models offer better value than the new Garmin Fenix 8 range, which contains the successor to both the Epix Pro and Fenix 7 Pro watches, but which is the better pick in the sales? Largely your choice comes down to three factors: display, battery life and price. Other than that the Garmin Epix Pro and Garmin Fenix 7 Pro offer the same design and features, so let's tackle those three factors in turn. The Garmin Epix Pro has an AMOLED display, while the Fenix 7 Pro has a memory-in-pixel display. Having used both watches I prefer the AMOLED screen myself. It's brighter and more engaging, and clearer to read indoors and when outside under cloud or tree cover. However, the Fenix 7 Pro's display is still clear enough in all conditions, and in bright sunlight it's as readable as the AMOLED screen. The always-on mode of the Fenix's display is also easier to read, before you turn your wrist to fully wake up the screen on the Epix. The main benefit of the memory-in-pixel display is longer battery life, however, which we'll get into now. A brighter display means shorter battery life in both watch mode and when tracking activities, so you will have to charge the Epix Pro more regularly than the Fenix 7 Pro. The Epix Pro lasted me around 10 days on a charge, while the Fenix 7 Pro lasted me three weeks. That's when using them in mostly cloudy conditions — if you live in a sunny spot the solar panels on the Fenix 7 Pro will extend its battery life even further. The 51mm models significantly outlast the smaller watches in the range, so if you are keen on long battery life they are worth paying the extra for. Whatever size and style of watch you opt for, the Fenix 7 Pro version will be cheaper than the Epix Pro, usually by around $100. That's a big saving and means you can get a sapphire titanium model of the Fenix 7 Pro for the same price as a standard steel Epix Pro, which is a big upgrade in design quality if you're not too fussed about the AMOLED display. The main decision you have to make here is picking between an AMOLED display and longer battery life, but there is one model that offers both, which is the Garmin Epix Pro 51mm. It's the most expensive watch in either range, but getting 10 days of battery life with an always-on AMOLED screen is amazing, and if you use the raise-to-wake setting it can last weeks on a charge. I wore the 51mm sapphire Garmin Epix Pro for a year and got used to the size quickly. That model is $655 down from $1099 right now on Amazon, which is a great saving for those who don't want to choose between battery and the brighter display.
