Broncos cut UFL cornerback to make room for new LB

One in, one out. Such is the way of NFL training camps. After suffering a few injuries at inside linebacker, the Denver Broncos signed veteran Garret Wallow on Friday to help patch up their depth. To make room for Wallow on the 91-player roster, the Broncos waived cornerback Mario Goodrich, according to KUSA-TV's Mike Klis. Goodrich (6-0, 186 pounds) spent this spring playing for the UFL's Birmingham Stallions. He totaled 17 tackles, six pass breakups and three forced fumbles in UFL seven games. Before that, he had stints with the New York Giants (2024) and Philadelphia Eagles (2022-2023). He has five tackles in four NFL appearances, including one start. Following the Goodrich departure, Denver has 10 cornerbacks remaining on the roster: Pat Surtain, Riley Moss, Jahdae Barron, Ja'Quan McMillian, Kris Abrams-Draine, Damarri Mathis, Reese Taylor, Quinton Newsome, Jaden Robinson and Joshua Pickett. The Broncos previously placed outside linebacker Johnny Walker on injured reserve and signed UFL pass rusher Garrett Nelson on Thursday. Wallow wears No. 46 and Nelson was given No. 59. Broncos sign veteran LB after 3 injuries at position

The Denver Broncos are shoring up their depth at inside linebacker. With Alex Singleton (thumb) sidelined for about a week, Dre Greenlaw feeling tight and Drew Sanders (foot) expected to miss the start of the regular season, the Broncos signed veteran inside linebacker Garret Wallow on Friday. KUSA-TV's Mike Klis was among the first to break the news of Wallow joining the team. Wallow (6-2, 230 pounds) originally entered the league as a fifth-round pick out of TCU with the Houston Texans in 2021. After three years in Houston, he joined the Tennessee Titans in 2023. The 26-year-old linebacker has totaled 42 tackles, one sack and one pass breakup in 35 career games (five starts). Wallow joins an inside linebacker room that includes Greenlaw, Singleton, Sanders, Levelle Bailey, Justin Strnad, Jordan Turner, Karene Reid and JB Brown. Bailey has been stepping up with Singleton sidelined. Denver previously placed undrafted rookie outside linebacker Johnny Walker on injured reserve and signed UFL pass rusher Garrett Nelson on Thursday. Wallow wears No. 46 and Nelson was given No. 59. Broncos host 4 linebackers for tryouts after 2 injuries at position

In addition to bringing in three wide receivers for workouts on Tuesday, the Denver Broncos also hosted four linebackers, according to the NFL's transaction wire. After losing Alex Singleton (thumb) and Drew Sanders (foot) in a three-day span, the Broncos took a look at linebackers Krys Barnes (27), Garret Wallow (26), Anthony Hines (26) and Jailin Walker (22). Barnes (6-2, 229 pounds) entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of UCLA with the Green Bay Packers in 2020. He was a two-year starter in Green Bay before an injury derailed his third season. Barnes recorded 190 tackles, four pass breakups, three sacks, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble in 35 games witih the Packers. Wallow (6-2, 230 pounds) was picked by the Houston Texans in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL draft out of TCU. He spent the first two and a half years of his career in Houston, totaling 36 tackles, one sack and one pass breakup in 32 games (five starts). After being bumped down to the Texans' practice squad in 2023, he was signed by the Tennessee Titans to their active roster. He had six tackles in three appearances with the Titans to close out the year and then missed the 2024 season with a pectoral injury. Hines (6-3, 226 pounds) went undrafted out of Texas A&M in 2021 and signed with the Dallas Cowboys as a college free agent. He went on to have later stints with the Washington Football Team, Los Angeles Rams and New York Jets, but never appeared in a regular season game. Hines spent the last two years in the UFL with the DC Defenders, totaling 72 tackles, three sacks and two forced fumbles in 18 games. Walker (6-0, 219 pounds) is a rookie out of Indiana (and James Madison before that) who was signed by the Las Vegas Raiders in May. He was cut by the Raiders last week. Denver brought Walker in for a pre-draft visit earlier this year. At the time of publication, the Broncos have not made any signings. The healthy linebackers currently on the roster are Dre Greenlaw, Levelle Bailey, Justin Strnad and three undrafted free agent additions: Karene Reid, JB Brown and Jordan Turner. Broncos sign LB Garret Wallow, cut CB Mario Goodrich

The Broncos have found themselves with a need at linebacker during training camp, and they've signed Garret Wallow to give themselves some depth at the position. Wallow arrives after injuries to Broncos linebackers Alex Singleton, Dre Greenlaw and Drew Sanders. The 26-year-old Wallow most recently played for the Titans in 2023. He missed the entire 2024 season with a torn pectoral. He was originally a 2021 fifth-round draft pick of the Texans who played in 32 games in Houston, with five starts. He also has played a lot on special teams, and that might be his best chance of making the Broncos' regular-season roster. To make room for Wallow on the roster, the Broncos waived cornerback Mario Goodrich, who signed in June after playing in the UFL.
