Marc Gatcomb gets one-way deal from Islanders after impressive stint
Marc Gatcomb's 39-game stint with the Islanders was impressive enough to earn a one-way deal for next season. The Islanders announced a one-year deal with the 25-year-old wing on Sunday after the two sides avoided arbitration one day prior. According to an industry source, the deal came in at $900,000 and was a one-way contract, meaning Gatcomb will get the full salary even if he's in the AHL. The Islanders re-signed Marc Gatcomb (16) to a one-way contract. Dennis Schneidler-Imagn Images Given the wingers the Islanders have added this offseason, that was crucial for Gatcomb to secure. While he played well with the Islanders last season, scoring eight goals and showing a physical edge that endeared him, it will be an uphill battle for Gatcomb to make the team out of camp. Since the end of the season, the Islanders have added wingers Jonathan Drouin, Max Shabanov and Emil Heineman. Mat Barzal and Anthony Duclair, who were injured and on personal leave at the end of last season, are both expected back for training camp as well. Marc Gatcomb (16) will earn his full NHL salary from the Islanders even if he's in the AHL next season. AP General manager Mathieu Darche has just one item left on his to-do list: re-signing Max Tsyplakov before arbitration. The Russian wing filed for arbitration before Saturday's deadline, and a hearing will be scheduled between July 20 and Aug. 4. A contract, however, can be worked on during the interim.

Teen stole car before crashing, running from police on foot near Mass. school, police say
Police arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with stealing a car from Wakefield before crashing into a dumpster and running off on foot, prompting a nearby Malden school to shelter in place on Wednesday, Malden police said. At around 10 a.m., Malden police were notified that a person driving a stolen car from Wakefield was in the area, Malden Police Capt. Marc Gatcomb told MassLive. After a failed traffic stop, the car drove into a pedestrian walkway in the area of Mountain Avenue and struck a dumpster, Gatcomb said. Officers were able to obtain surveillance footage that showed the teenager, dressed in black, run from the car. With the help of Massachusetts State Police and a K9 unit, a perimeter around the area was set up, Gatcomb said. Malden police previously said that an increased police presence and a police helicopter were in the area looking for the person. The boy was later found and arrested, Gatcomb said. No one was hurt during the incident. As a precaution, the Early Learning Center in Malden implemented a shelter-in-place protocol with police on standby to 'ensure a safe and orderly dismissal process,' the department previously said. While there was a delay in letting children out of school, Gatcomb said students were dismissed following the arrest.
