Motorists to expect disruption as road is set to close

Road closures and temporary traffic lights will bring disruption to motorists next month while the council carries out work. Oxfordshire County Council will be doing maintenance and resurfacing work along Hithercroft Road in Wallingford, between Moses Winter Way and Moreton Avenue. The work should start on Monday, September 1 and is expected to last for two weeks, finishing on Friday, September 12., subject to any bad weather or unforeseen circumstances arising during construction. Work will include vegetation clearance, drainage repairs, ironwork adjustments and the resurfacing of the existing carriageway surface. READ MORE: Between September 1 and 8, 7am to 7pm each day, there will be three-way traffic lights installed while repairs and clearance is carried out. From September 9 to 12, there will be four overnight road closures in place between 8pm and 6am. Drivers are being asked not to park their cars on the road during this period. A county council spokesman said: "Gatemen/traffic marshals will be positioned at all hard closure points during the road closure. "They will direct traffic and pedestrians to ensure the safety of the public and workforce during working hours. "We ask that you give them your full support and heed their advice whether you are a pedestrian, cyclist, or motorist. "We will endeavour to maintain vehicular access to those businesses and properties affected by the work. "However, there may be occasions where delays are likely once the new surfacing is laid, as it takes time to cool down and cure, and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."
