Pakistani Actor Claims, "Nobody Rents Javed Akhtar A House In India." He Quips, "Shabana Azmi And I Sleep On Streets"

New Delhi: Weeks after Pakistani actress Bushra Ansari criticised Javed Akhtar, the veteran lyricist and writer has responded to her remarks. What In a recent interview with Lallantop, Javed Akhtar addressed her comments, including the claim that he doesn't even get a house on rent in Mumbai. "There is this Pakistani actress, Bushra Ansari, she often talks about me. She once advised me to keep quiet. She said something like, 'Naseeruddin Shah stays quiet, you should too.' My question to her is: 'Who is she to tell me when to talk and when not to? Who gave you this right and why do you expect me to take your advise?" Akhtar said. He added, "We internally might have several problems (referring to India), but if an outsider comes to comment, I am an Indian. Why do they forget that? I won't keep quiet." When the interviewer mentioned Bushra Ansari's comment about him not getting a house on rent, Akhtar responded with sarcasm. "Yes right, Shabana and I have been sleeping on the streets lately. Kya yaar, ab kya bole?" he said, laughing. Background Javed Akhtar also recalled an old incident that may have led to such claims. He said, "About 25 years ago, Shabana wanted to buy a flat for investment purpose. But the broker said that the owner will not sell his house to a Muslim. But, do you know why he refused? He refused it because his parents stayed in Sindh from where these Pakistanis shooed them away. Anyone with a wound that big and deep, will react the way the owner reacted. If that day, Shabana was refused a flat, it was not because she was a Muslim, but it was because the owner was displacing his revenge someplace else for what his parents went through. So who is she (Bushra Ansari) to take a dig at this, and ask me to keep quiet? They must look into their own doings before commenting." The exchange stems from an earlier incident in April when news broke about the killing of 26 tourists in the Baisaran meadows of Pahalgam by a terrorist group. Reacting to the tragedy at the Gauravshaali Maharashtra Mahotsav, Akhtar said, "Yeh baat humein bhulni nahi chahiye, yeh mamooli baat nahi hai. (We shouldn't forget this)." Following his speech, Bushra Ansari criticised Akhtar on social media, saying, "Humare writer so-called, unko toh bahana hi chahiye tha. Actually, unko toh makaan kiraaye pe nahi milta tha Bombay mein (Our so called writer is even refused a flat in Mumbai)." She also added, "Chaloji chup karjaaye aap. Naseeruddin Shah bhi toh hai, who chup baithe hai na? Aur bhi toh chup baithe hai na? Jiske dil mein jo hai who rakkha rahe. (Please stay quiet just like Naseeruddin Shah. Others are also quiet, you too be quiet please)." In A Nutshell Javed Akhtar has responded to Pakistani actress Bushra Ansari's remarks advising him to stay silent and claiming he couldn't get a house on rent in Mumbai. Akhtar questioned her right to comment on him and explained an old incident about housing discrimination rooted in partition trauma.

Javed Akhtar HITS Back At Bushra Ansari Over 'No One Rents Him A Flat' Remark

Last Updated: Veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar responded sharply to Pakistani actress Bushra Ansari's claim that 'no one rents him a flat in Mumbai.' Veteran lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar has broken his silence on Pakistani actress Bushra Ansari's recent comments targeting him. Weeks after Ansari mocked him in a social media post—alleging that he 'can't even get a house on rent in Mumbai" and advising him to 'stay quiet like Naseeruddin Shah"—Akhtar offered a calm but firm rebuttal during a candid conversation with Lallantop. 'There is this Pakistani actress, Bushra Ansari, she often talks about me," Akhtar said. 'She once advised me to keep quiet. She said something like, 'Naseeruddin Shah stays quiet, you should too.' My question to her is: 'Who is she to tell me when to talk and when not to? Who gave you this right and why do you expect me to take your advice?'" Akhtar continued by asserting his position as an Indian first. 'We internally might have several problems," he acknowledged, 'but if an outsider comes to comment, I am an Indian. Why do they forget that? I won't keep quiet." When the interviewer brought up Ansari's claim that he doesn't get a house on rent in Mumbai, Akhtar responded with biting sarcasm: 'Yes right, Shabana and I have been sleeping on the streets lately. Kya yaar, ab kya bole?" he quipped, chuckling at the absurdity. Akhtar then elaborated on the long-standing anecdote that may have sparked Ansari's remark. 'About 25 years ago, Shabana wanted to buy a flat for investment," he recounted. 'But the broker said that the owner would not sell to a Muslim. The reason? His parents were driven out of Sindh during the Partition. That wound runs deep. So if he refused, it wasn't because she was Muslim—it was his displaced anger. So who is she (Bushra Ansari) to twist that context and take a dig? They should reflect on their own history before pointing fingers." Bushra Ansari had earlier reacted to Akhtar's speech at the Gauravshaali Maharashtra Mahotsav, where he condemned the brutal killing of 26 tourists by a terrorist group in Pahalgam's Baisaran meadows. 'Yeh baat humein bhulni nahi chahiye, yeh mamooli baat nahi hai," Akhtar had said at the event. Ansari, reacting sharply to his comments, said, 'Unko toh bahana hi chahiye tha… Actually, unko toh makaan kiraaye pe nahi milta tha Bombay mein." She added, 'Chaloji chup kar jaaye aap. Naseeruddin Shah bhi toh hai, woh chup baithe hain na? Aur bhi toh chup baithe hain. Jiske dil mein jo hai, woh rakh rahe." First Published:

Javed Akhtar's retort to Pakistani actor Bushra Ansari's claim he can't rent home: ‘Me and Shabana sleep on footpath'

Lyricist Javed Akhtar had a retort to Pakistani actor Bushra Ansari's claim that he can't even rent a house in Mumbai. In an interview with Lallantop, he was told about how Bushra opined that he should 'stay quiet like Naseeruddin Shah' after he spoke out against the Pahalgam attacks. Here's what he said. (Also Read: 'Narak jaana pasand karuga': Javed Akhtar on what he would choose 'between Pakistan and hell') Javed was asked about Bushra, and he replied, 'There's this famous Pakistani TV actor, Bushra Ansari, who once asked angrily why I won't stay quiet. She said I should be quiet like Naseeruddin Shah. But who is she to suggest that to me? I might have 25 problems, but I am an Indian when it comes to her.' When told about her statement that he can't even rent a house in Mumbai, Javed joked, 'Yeah, me and Shabana sleep on the footpath these days,' and added, 'See, it is true that Shabana wanted to buy a flat around 25 years ago but they refused saying she's a Muslim. These were people whose parents hailed from Sindh. They were driven out during the partition. The wounds run deep, and that bitterness was taken out on us. But who is responsible for that? We got so much love here, she needs to look at her own country's history.' Bushra had reacted to Javed's speech at the Gauravshaali Maharashtra Mahotsav, where he condemned the killing of 26 tourists by terrorists in Pahalgam's meadows. She reportedly stated on social media that he needs to stay quiet on the issue, like Naseeruddin. On 22 April, terrorists attacked the Baisaran meadow near the Pahalgam town of Anantnag district, and gunned down 26 civilians, mostly tourists. Several others were injured as well. Lashkar-e-Taiba offshoot, The Resistance Front, claimed responsibility for the attack. India has accused Pakistan of cross-border terrorism; however, Pakistan has denied the charges. In retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack, Indian armed forces carried out missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, including Bahawalpur, which is a stronghold of the Jaish-e-Mohammad terror outfit.
