Supergrass effortlessly overcome last minute change as iconic band celebrate flawless album at Manchester's Albert Hall
Supergrass fans were treated to something rather special when the Britpop favourites opened their first of two nights in Manchester. Supergrass are currently on the road, playing venues up-and-down the country, as part of their 30th anniversary tour celebrating debut record I Should Coco. Devotees having a chance to see the iconic album performed in full during the schedule. The Mercury Prize-nominated collection includes the somewhat era-defining Alright, which brought global recognition Supergrass' way, Caught by The Fuzz, Mansize Rooster and others. Gaz Coombes and his bandmates aired those and many more as they kicked off their first of two nights at Manchester's Albert Hall on Friday evening. READ MORE: Kylie Minogue at at AO Arena - seating plan, support, stage times, parking and everything you need to know READ MORE: Everything Bruce Springsteen said about Donald Trump in blistering attack in Manchester show Consisting of the aforementioned Gaz, Mick Quinn, Danny Goffey and Rob Coombes, the indie troupe, formed in Oxford, back in 1993, took their disciples back to a simpler time during their very sweaty Manchester city centre show. Support on the night came from Kissing People and last minute recruits Reverend and The Makers. Led by Jon McClure, the late drafts two members short, enjoyed a wonderful connection with those packed into the sold out venue. Shifting through a few tracks from their 20-year body of work. Unsurprisingly, the stripped back version of Heavyweight Champion of the World went down a treat. The rev revealing, due to the unexpected booking, the three-piece were being accompanied by his seven-year-old son's iPad. The charismatic singer stating: 'If it's s**t, blame him.' Before the close of their support act stint, the rev added: 'All f**king about aside, Supergrass are the most underrated band in the world.' A fair few in attendance, on Friday evening, would likely agree with that sentiment. Supergrass, later arriving on-stage to enviable adulation, performed in front of a backdrop consisting of that rather menacing I Should Coco caricature album cover. Addressing the venue, lead Gaz said: 'I didn't think 30 years later we'd be here doing two nights in Manchester at the Albert Hall.' That 'track four', the rather famous, Alright helped to set the early tone of delirium as the group progressed through big hits and lesser-aired rarities. Mid-set drummer Danny Goffey briefly halted proceedings to declare 'that was kind of special, I thought'. Of course, alongside the I Should Coco classics, the Coombes brothers and the accompanying members of Supergrass couldn't resist treating the masses to some more favourites from the band's back catalogue. Moving bringing an echoing singalong to the Albert Hall as Supergrass worked to a close. Gaz praised the 'Insane energy in the room' before the main set finished with Grace - in every sense. The group soon returned to the stage for a two-song encore opened by Sun Hits The Sky with the instantly-recognisable anthem Pumping On Your Stereo getting the crowd in the mood for an indie disco. Perhaps a few even popped into 42s afterwards to further relive their youth…given the mythical club was only round the corner. Race Across The World couple who stunned viewers by revealing they had just divorced each other tell what they did when they got home - and whether they have got back together
A couple who took part on Race Across the World despite being divorced have revealed they have no plans to get back together - but do still share a bank account. Gaz and Yin charmed viewers with their 'unmatched chemistry' on the BBC adventure show, which sees contestants go head-to-head in a 14,000-kilometre race across China, Nepal and India. The former married couple first met in the 1980s and say they 'fell in love pretty quickly after working together'. They moved to Sevenoaks, Kent and had a daughter Autumn, who is now 23, but drifted apart over the Coronavirus lockdowns. Yin moved in with a new partner Chris in 2021, who she met via an online dating app. However, when Chris suddenly died of a heart attack two years later, Gaz invited Yin to moved back in with him as he was concerned about her. Fast forward four years and the couple are still currently in the process of divorcing with the paperwork yet to be signed. Nevertheless, that did not stop Yin from asking Gaz to join her on Race Across the World when she saw an advert for the show. 'In that moment thought, you know what? I really want to do that,' Yin revealed. The couple, who undertook the voyage with just a with just a map and £2,200, were eliminated last week after they took a train 1,800km in the wrong direction. Yin and Gaz travelled for four weeks after the show but it was at that point that Yin had the realisation it was finally time to move out. She told The Times: 'When we got back to Gaz's I took my backpack off and I went to put it [away] then had a flash of self-awareness. 'I just thought, 'What am I doing? I'm a 55-year-old woman and I'm living out of a cupboard under the stairs at my ex's. 'Doing Race gave me that confidence.' Gaz said while they have decided they are not getting back together romantically, he and Yin will still have a 'happy future together'. They said they see themselves as practical people and do not let their divorce get in the way of saving money. Gaz and Yin still have a joint bank account which covers a shared Netflix account and dental insurance. Gaz and Yin charmed viewers with their 'unmatched chemistry' on the BBC adventure show On an episode of Race Across the World which aired last month, the couple reflected on the breakdown of their relationship. Gaz said: 'Being married to Yin was amazing. I did feel there's security being married because you're a unit, you're together. 'But the breakdown in the relationship was because I became lazy, I took Yin for granted. Even to this day I blame myself.' He revealed that he 'didn't cope with the breakdown of the relationship at all well'. Gaz added: 'I became insular. It was hard and I didn't like it at all. What do you do? Let's go down the pub and have six pints of Guinness and forget about it.' Despite any difficulties, Yin still admired Gaz for his charming ways and confidence. 'That's one of the things that I miss about Gaz. That's the charm that hooked me in,' she commented. Some viewers think the former couple share 'unmatched chemistry' and took to social media to share their thoughts. Many posted on X: 'Race across the world participants… Gaz and Yin… anyone think they still love each other?' 'We all are rooting for Gaz and Yin to get back together, the sisters to win, and the baby Welshies to build the courage to book a train ticket, right?' 'Sorry can Yin and Gaz get back together now please.' 'The show is recorded so the contestants are probably watching. It would be nice to think that Yin and Gaz are sat watching this together as a couple. I can hope.' 'Am I the only one secretly shipping Gaz & Yin for a reunion?' 'Yin and Gaz, if you're out there in Twitter land, please tell us you're back together!' 'Yin and Gaz have to get back together right? Like the chemistry between them is unmatched!' While someone else said: 'Whether or not Gaz and Yin's relationship is purely platonic or not, is their business. 'It's just nice to see an ex married couple without spite and malice, support one another. Their dynamic is fascinating to me.'

We did Race Across the World while divorcing. It was a blast
Gaz and Yin had only one argument in four weeks backpacking across China. Given the 54-year-olds undertook the voyage with just a map, £2,200 and no phones, their civility has been an inspiration to couples everywhere. Especially considering the pair have been separated for three years. Despite being divorced (almost: the papers have still to be signed), Gaz and Yin willingly pitted themselves against more usual couples on the fifth series of BBC1's Race Across the World, where five teams must race from the Great Wall of China to the southern tip of India, a distance of 14,000km (8,700 miles), by any means except flying. The first to arrive wins £20,000. This series of the reality show also featured a doting mother and her
