5 Bollywood Movies That Will Awaken The Travel Bug In You
When was the last time you took a trip? While our friends on Instagram may be posting international trip pictures every week, some of us have even gotten unaffected by those, and do not remember the last time we booked a train or flight ticket. If you are in the same boat (and not hopping on a real boat), you need a little inspiration to hit pause on that routine, pack a suitcase and just go on that trip. Vacations are often seen as a luxury but mean so much more than that. A single trip has the power to change your life completely. Don't believe us? Well, if you believe in the magic of storytelling, here are five beautiful, fun and heartwarming travel-inspired Bollywood movies that just might awaken that travel bug inside of you. Here Are 5 Travel-Based Movies You Should Watch To Get Inspired: 1. Swades (2004) This is your sign to watch 'Swades' if you have not already seen this wonderful movie. The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer film is considered to be one of his finest by fans and critics, and yet an underrated film often forgotten, since it is devoid of stereotypical Bollywood masala. The travel aspect in this film is also unique - the protagonist, Mohan, is a modern man, an NRI working at the technological forefront of NASA in the US. The film explores his journey back home, to the villages of India, and an internal journey that completely changes his perspective towards life and one's own country. 2. Jab We Met (2007) View this post on Instagram A post shared by Shamira Fanclub 👩❤️💋👩 (@shahidmirafb) One of the most fun Imtiaz Ali movies, 'Jab We Met' revolves around Geet (Kareena Kapoor) and Aditya (Shahid Kapoor), where a missed train brings them together on a long and adventurous journey to Geet's home. The story captures how spontaneous travel and meeting new people can completely transform your life, and sometimes, also bring love. 3. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011) 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' is a through-and-through travel-based film, with every intention to encourage you to plan a trip with your closest friends, face your fears, laugh out loud, and even shed a tear or two. The film stars Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol, Katrina Kaif and Kalki Koechlin in key roles. It's one of the films fans love rewatching and continues to inspire every single time to hit the play button. 4. Queen (2013) Another travel-based Bollywood film we love is 'Queen', helmed by Vikas Bahl. The film follows the journey of Rani (Kangana Ranaut), a simple girl from Delhi's Rajouri Garden, whose fiance (Rajkummar Rao) breaks up just a few days before their marriage. Heartbroken, Rani decides to go on her honeymoon all by herself, and the trip to Paris and Amsterdam teaches her how to find her independence, courage, self-love and confidence. The film has unconventional characters you will fall in love with, and it will leave you with an urge to go on a solo trip and find yourself. 5. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) View this post on Instagram A post shared by yeh jawani hai diwani (@yeh_jawaniii_hai_deewani_) One of the most popular Bollywood films among the youth, 'Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani' shows how "topper" Naina's (Deepika Padukone) attitude towards life changes when she takes a leap of courage and goes on a trip to Manali with a bunch of strangers she only knows by name. On this trip, Naina learns how to enjoy life and not take things too seriously - a lesson we all need from time to time. She creates lasting friendships and even finds the love of her life - Bunny (Ranbir Kapoor). On the flip side, the film also explores Bunny's love for freedom and travel, as he takes a job with a travel show and lives his life to the fullest - living in new countries, meeting new people, and exploring new cuisines. The film will make you fall in love with travel, and also help you draw a line to not use it as an excuse to escape life and things that mean the most to us. Watch these fun and beautiful Bollywood movies and after that, maybe call your friends to plan that trip you always wanted to.

How Imtiaz Ali would do 'Jab We Met' differently
Imtiaz Ali's Jab We Met (2007) may be getting older, but the memories sure aren't. Those who have watched the film might be familiar with the iconic scene where Geet (played by Kareena Kapoor), the female protagonist, lashes out at her former lover on the phone, launching curses at him for betraying her. But the filmmaker believes that there was room for more. In an interview with SCREEN, Imtiaz shared what he would have done differently. "The abuses would have been sharper. I would've loved to see Geet say really dirty curse words - you know, the very unexpected ones. That would've been fun. And maybe I could have shown that the words were shocking to even Shahid [Kapoor]'s character Aditya, who'd never have heard some of the words before. As in, this could've gone much lower than his expectations. That could have been even more fun." Not actually soulmates? Jab We Met follows the story of Aditya, a depressed tycoon who sees no purpose in life until he meets Geet, an overly enthusiastic girl whose outlook of life changes him for the better. The two cross paths while they're on a train, where Aditya is looking for an escape while Geet is eloping to meet her lover. While, at first, their personalities clash, Aditya slowly warms up to Geet and finds himself pulled into her eventful life many times over. Imtiaz, who has time and again rejected the prospect of making a sequel for the film, shared another interesting what-if scenario. Despite giving his leads a happy ending in the original film, he isn't too hopeful about their marriage down the line. He believes that the lovers Geet and Aditya would be "at a divorce lawyer's office" today. When Shahid Kapoor was told of the scenario, also in an interview with SCREEN, he couldn't help but agree. "That's actually a fun idea that Geet and Aditya are now breaking up because they are frustrated with each other. Aditya is like, 'She is her own favourite, who can ever put up with her?'" he said. Shahid understood the fact that this development would not sit well with fans, who adore the fictional couple's bond. However, he has faith in Imtiaz's vision. "If our filmmaker thinks these two will divorce each other, then who am I to come in between? I am just an actor." Fate's plans The Indian Express reported that Shahid and Kareena had been dating back when they were shooting for the romantic comedy. However, they had broken up by the time of the film's release. Since then, they've only worked together on Abhishek Chaubey's 2016 film Udta Punjab, though they didn't share the screen for that project. When asked at the trailer launch if fans should hope for a sequel for Jab We Met, Shahid joked that Imtiaz had "moved on" from the film. Meanwhile, Kareena added that a DVD is always available for those who wish to relive the experience. In a 2020 interview with Anupama Chopra, Kareena revealed that it was actually Shahid who proposed the role of Geet to her. "It was Shahid who said that I should check out the film's script. He was like, 'The girl's part is amazing and you should do it.' He kind of actually got this entire project together and both of us ended up doing this film," she said. Adding a bittersweet note about the breakup, she said, "Of course, then destiny had its own plan and life took its own course. A lot happened in the making of this film and Tashan and our lives. We all kind of went our separate ways. And this beauty of a movie came out of it."

'If Sridevi had never worn sarees, I wouldn't have either'
In an interview with Faridoon Shahryar, actor Hira Mani gushed over her Bollywood inspirations and professed her love for sarees. "I used to love sarees on an actress who is no longer in this world - Sridevi," she began. Admitting that she's a huge fan of the English Vinglish actor, Hira added, "My mother had this habit of putting on music from films like Chandni while cleaning up. Even she looks beautiful in sarees. So, that's how I developed a liking for them. As for Sridevi, if she never wore sarees, I wouldn't have either." Hira recalled the process behind a week-old Instagram post from where she stepped out in the snow in Pittsburgh, wearing a saree. "That was actually my friend's idea. She said, 'We should fulfill this wish of yours.' And I agreed." Comedy versus melodrama Other than looking at the late actor as a fashionista, Hira also looks at Sridevi as a talented comedy actor. "She has brilliant comic timing," she said. "But as for Pakistan, I love the subtle comic skills of Shehnaz Sheikh because it's not easy to juggle that with being a heroine." The 36-year-old actor observed that there is an openness to comedy that is tough for a melodramatic actor to perform simultaneously. "You have to look natural while delivering comedic lines. So, to maintain that as a coy heroine is a difficult task." Hira, who began her acting career through a humorous role in Meri Teri Kahani, added, "I think the turning point in my career was my serious acting. Once I began doing that, I felt as if it had become my game. "However, in real life, I'm not serious at all. I'm a big joker. But I love taking on challenges, so when I'm acting emotionally, I commend myself. Because I work completely in contrast to my personality. So, I enjoy doing this. My most emotional and sensitive characters have been a turning point for me." Strength in humour Looking back on the release of Imtiaz Ali's Jab We Met, Hira admitted that people likened her to Kareena Kapoor's Geet. "My aunt called me and said, 'Hira, this character is you.' Then, our entire family gathered to watch the film. So yes, she is like me. It's possible that Imtiaz Ali met me on a train and got inspired," she joked. "But the thing about these comparisons is that people accuse you of copying the character when this is just what you're naturally like," she said. "Though, I do like to mimic Kareena's characters sometimes." Without missing a beat, Hira proceeded to re-enact the bubbly Geet's hilarious scenes, bringing due vigour to her performance. Though after the burst of confidence, she did cover her face briefly. But she later regained her confidence as she channelled another one of Kareena's iconic characters - Poo from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... Addressing her high spirits throughout the interview, the Do Bol actor said that she would rather talk oddly in interviews than have her phone fall down during an Instagram live. "It's not about being odd; it's about letting your personality shine, and everyone is an oddball. I could give an interview all prim and proper, but why should I? I don't want to pretend to be something I'm not."
