Tribals stage protest at Narsipatnam RDO's office seeking roads, school and safe drinking water
The tribal people of 15 villages in Anakapalli district took out a rally carrying 'dolis', as a symbolic protest, to the RDO's office at Narsipatnam, where the Collector participated in the Spandana programme on Monday.
They demanded among other things laying the foundation stone and commencement of construction of the road to Donkada village, of Golugonda mandal, for which funds were sanctioned in 2023 but the work was not commenced. This was forcing the villagers to carry pregnant women and sick persons in dolis. The tribal people also sought opening of a school at Donkadaa and construction of roads to Neellabandha, Jeelugulova and Pasuvulabandha of V. Madugula and Rolugunta mandals.
They sought provision of safe drinking water to Kalyanalova, Jeelugulova and Pasuvulabandha villages. They said that the excise personnel were booking cases, in contravention of the rules, on the tribals of Pitrigedda, Jajulabandha and Pedagaruvu, when they were transporting 'jeelugu kallu' (toddy). The officials were, however, not taking any action on the 'belt shops' (unauthorised liquor shops), which were operating in the Agency areas, they alleged.
CPI(M) district secretariat member K. Govinda Rao, Gemimili Vasu Kondathambila Sattibabu and K. Venkata Rao were among those who led the protest.
