Google Gemini now automatically summarises your Gmail emails

Google has been steadily injecting AI features into Gmail. Last year, the tech giant integrated Gemini into Gmail, allowing users to leverage the power of generative AI to get a summarised version of individual messages or long threads. This was useful for people who wanted to catch up on a long conversation, especially on small-screen devices like smartphones, but it required users to open the email and tap on the 'Summarize this email' button that appears below the email title. However, Google, on Thursday, May 29, announced that 'summaries will be available at the top of the email content for messages where a summary is helpful, such as longer email threads or messages with several replies.' This means that Gmail will now automatically show a summary of the email created by Gemini wherever it thinks is useful. Google says Gemini will also dynamically update to reflect any updates to the email conversation. If an email or thread does not automatically generate a summary, Google says you can resort to the Gemini sidebar or tap on the Summarise this email button. As of now, this functionality seems to be limited to English and only works with the Android and iOS Gmail apps. Also, the tech giant says the new functionality will be rolling out gradually to everyone in the coming days, so it might take a while before Gemini starts automatically summarising emails for you. Note that this feature will only be available for Google Workspace users, Google One AI Premium subscribers, Gemini Education and Gemini Education Premium customers. Announced as part of the May Workspace feature drop, Google is also rolling out Gemini summaries in Google Chat's Home view and a new summary building block in Google Docs. NotebookLM, the AI-powered research tool, is also getting interactive Mind Maps, which can help you discover how different ideas relate to each other.

Google I/O 2025: Gmail users get big Gemini push, managing calendar gets easier

Google I/O 2025: Google has introduced a new way to manage your calendar directly within the Gmail app on your phone. This update aims to simplify how you schedule, edit, or delete events without switching apps. For many users, juggling emails and calendar entries has long been a tedious task, but with this new feature, Google is streamlining the process. At its recent Google I/O event, the company revealed multiple updates for Android users, including enhancements to Google Workspace tools like Docs, Vids, and Gmail. One of the notable changes was the extension of Gemini, Google's AI assistant, into the Gmail mobile app for both Android and iOS. Gemini had already been available on the Gmail web version with calendar integration, and now mobile users will benefit from similar functionality. Google Classroom gives teachers an AI feature for quiz questions

Google Classroom introduced a new AI-powered feature designed to help teachers generate questions. Launched on Monday, this tool lets educators create a list of questions based on specific text input. Using this text-dependent question generation tool, which utilizes Gemini, teachers can either upload files from Google Drive or manually enter text for the AI to generate questions. They can then export the questions into a Google Doc or Google Form. Educators can choose from a variety of filters, including the grade level, the number of questions, and the type of questions (such as multiple choice or open-ended). Additionally, there is an option for teachers to specify the skills they want their students to demonstrate, such as the use of figurative language or the ability to evaluate arguments. This feature is available only to Google Workspace for Education subscribers who have either the Gemini Education add-on ($24 per user) or Gemini Education Premium ($36 per user). Google initially launched Gemini to Classroom in 2024 and has since expanded its capabilities. The recent update included a tool for creating vocabulary lists. It can also generate lesson plan ideas and summarize a range of materials, from class notes to student feedback. Sign in to access your portfolio
