iPhone 17 vs Google Pixel 10: These 5 upgrades could be a real flagship deal
Google is hosting its annual 'Made by Google' event on August 21, 2025, to introduce the new Pixel 10 series. The launch comes just a few weeks before the iPhone 17 series, giving Google a head start in the flagship smartphone battle. Therefore, many smartphone buyers will be making a tough decision between Google's and Apple's latest flagship. However, if you are considering buying the base iPhone 17 model, then you may want to reconsider. This year, Google is bringing significant upgrades to the standard Pixel 10 model, which could make it more appealing than its Apple counterpart. We have listed 5 rumoured Pixel 10 upgrades that make it more impressive than the iPhone 17 model. TSMC-made Tensor G5 processor: With the Pixel 10 series, Google is expected to introduce its first custom-made Tensor chip, which will likely be manufactured by TSMC's 3nm process. Over the years, the Tensor chips were manufactured by Samsung; however, this will likely change with the Tensor G5 chip. Therefore, we can Pixel 10 to offer faster and more efficient performance. 5x telephoto camera: Another welcome addition is expected to be the third camera on the standard Pixel 10 model. Reports suggest that the Pixel 10 could feature an 11MP telephoto lens with a Samsung 3J1 sensor, offering up to 5x optical zoom. Therefore, the smartphone will have a triple camera setup, unlike the iPhone 17's dual camera system. Improve battery and charging performance: The Google Pixel 10 is rumoured to be backed by a 4,970mAh battery, a significant upgrade from its predecessor, as well as the rumoured battery size for iPhone 17. In addition, the smartphone is expected to support 29W wired charging, a slight upgrade from last year's 21W charging speed. Qi2-compatibility: Another major upgrade we expect this year is Qi2-compatibility for the Pixel 10 series. Reportedly, the Pixel 10 will likely come with a built-in magnetic charger for direct connection to MagSafe accessories. This way, Pixel 10 users will not have to buy a separate magnetic case like Samsung or OnePlus. Gemini Space and Daily Hub: Google is also rumoured to introduce a Gemini Space for Pixel phones, which will likely provide real-time updates on sports, finance, and other live activities on the home and lock screen. The Gemini Space may also offer a 'Daily Hub,' a centralised space where users can keep track of calendar events, flights, etc.

Gemini Space needs to fix a Pixel home screen issue we've had for years
Joe Maring / Android Authority Thanks to a recent APK teardown, we discovered that Google's At a Glance feature on Pixel phones is getting a major overhaul. What we know as At a Glance will be rebranded as 'Gemini Space,' and with that, Google is also adding more contextual cards to the longstanding widget — including sports scores, birthday reminders, finance updates, and more. From what we've seen, Gemini Space aims to show a lot more contextual info than At a Glance currently does, bringing it more in line with something like Samsung's Now Brief/Now Bar experiences. Assuming Google can make Gemini Space's content more helpful and personalized than Now Brief, that's not a bad pitch. However, with this being the biggest At a Glance refresh we've ever seen, I hope Google also uses this as an opportunity to fix something that's been a problem for years. Are you looking forward to Gemini Space? 0 votes Yes, it already looks great! NaN % Yes, but only if Google adds more customization options. NaN % No, it doesn't seem very impressive. NaN % Other (let us know in the comments). NaN % The main thing I want Gemini Space to fix Aamir Siddiqui / Android Authority Ever since Google added At a Glance to Pixel home screens in 2017 with the Pixel 2, the widget has been extremely rigid by design. Google has always given us control over what content we want to see in At a Glance, but we've never been able to change the widget's appearance or placement. You can't move At a Glance to the middle of your phone or place it further down on the home screen. You can't make the widget larger or smaller, and you certainly can't get rid of At a Glance if you don't want to see it. You're simply stuck with the widget at the top left of your Pixel home screen, and you just have to accept its placement there. Although there's currently no indication that Gemini Space will add such customization options, I hope Google is using this big overhaul as an excuse to finally address this. If Google is adding so many new cards and going as far as to rebrand At a Glance to Gemini Space, it suggests that the company sees Gemini Space as a significant evolution of the old At a Glance feature. If that's the case, why not fix a pain point that Pixel users regularly complain about? Joe Maring / Android Authority Now Brief home screen widget. Although its implementation is slightly different, Samsung offers precisely this with Now Brief in One UI 7 and 8. If you want quick access to Now Brief on your home screen, you can add a widget and place it wherever you'd like. If you don't care about Now Brief, you can remove the widget and largely ignore the feature — just as it should be. I certainly hope Gemini Space's new cards are good enough that I don't want to remove/disable it, but the fact remains I should have that option to choose. Further, if I love Gemini Space but want to move it somewhere else on my phone, I should be able to do that, too. As someone who's long felt like At a Glance is a good idea with a lot of wasted potential, I'm genuinely excited about the prospect of Gemini Space and hope it supercharges At a Glance in a way we haven't seen before. But just as much, Google needs to open up the customization floodgates it's kept locked away for far too long. It's time for Google to ease its restrictions Joe Maring / Android Authority Limited home screen customization has been an issue with Google's Pixel phones since the beginning. Just like how Google hasn't let you change anything with At a Glance, the same is true of the Google Search bar at the bottom of Pixel home screens. The search bar was a point of discussion last month when Google added a new AI Mode icon, much to my chagrin. However, after years of lacking customization for the search bar, we recently found a new 'Customize Search widget' settings page that includes the option to remove the AI Mode icon — a good sign that Google is finally starting to ease some of its home screen restrictions. Limited home screen customization has been an issue with Google's Pixel phones since the beginning. Could we see similar options for Gemini Space whenever it rolls out? The ability to move the widget anywhere on the home screen or remove it altogether? Given how significant an update Gemini Space appears to be, and Google adding new customization tools for the Google Search bar, the pieces are certainly there for it to happen. Gemini Space has the potential to be one of the best Pixel home screen upgrades we've ever seen. And as much as I can't wait to get my hands on it, I also can't wait (Google willing) to move Gemini Space wherever I damn well please.

First look at Gemini Space: Google's Now Bar-like upgrade to Pixel's At a Glance (APK teardown)
Aamir Siddiqui / Android Authority TL;DR Gemini Space is an upcoming upgrade to the Pixel's At a Glance experience. It's seemingly inspired by Samsung's Now bar and Now Brief, which show contextual cards on the lock screen and other places. In its current state, Gemini Space displays sports and birthday cards, but finance and Daily Hub features are expected in the future. We've previously spotted Google working on a feature called Gemini Space for Pixel devices. Based on the handful of clues we could spot, we speculated that it could be Google's version of Samsung's Now Bar and Now Brief features. Now, we've managed to activate Gemini Space, giving you the first look at what is indeed a Now Bar-inspired upgrade to Pixel's At a Glance experience. Authority Insights story on Android Authority. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release. Thanks to the latest Android Canary build, we could activate Gemini Space on a Pixel 9, showing us a sports card and a birthday wish for an upcoming birthday. Gemini Space cards will also show up on the lock screen. You can see the cards in action when using a large clock and a small clock style in these screenshots: The cards also appear on the Always On Display, as you can see in these photos: Gemini Space should be able to show Sports, Finance, and the newly spotted Daily Hub cards, but we haven't gotten Finance and Daily Hub to work just yet. The feature is still a work in progress, and we expect its functionality to grow and mature as it gets closer to public release. Google hasn't yet announced the feature, so we don't know when it's coming either. We'll keep you updated when we learn more. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . Google Now returns? Gemini Space could bring a Daily Hub feature to Pixels (APK teardown)
Ryan Haines / Android Authority TL;DR Google is developing a new feature called Gemini Space for Pixel devices, potentially as an evolution or rebrand of the current At a Glance feature. We've now found strings for a 'Daily Hub,' feature within At a Glance/Gemini Space, described as a 'space for content and suggestions to simplify your day.' This suggests Daily Hub could offer helpful content and suggestions similar to Samsung's Now Brief and the erstwhile Google Now. We've previously spotted Google working on a feature called Gemini Space for Pixel devices. There aren't a lot of clues telling us precisely what this feature is or what it would do, but we speculated that it could be Google's version of Samsung's Now Bar and Now Brief features. We've now spotted more clues pointing in the same direction. Authority Insights story on Android Authority. Discover You're reading anstory on Android Authority. An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release. On recent Galaxy flagships, the Now Bar is a small chip on the lock screen with live app updates. It is complemented by Now Brief, a full-screen summary of your day with contextual information, which can be accessed from its Now Bar lock screen shortcut, the Now Brief home screen widget, or the Edge panel. Now Bar showing Now Brief shortcut Home screen with Now Brief widget Edge panel with Now Brief shortcut Now Brief Previously spotted evidence suggested that Google could be planning to rebrand the Pixel's At a Glance into Gemini Space, and relaunch it with more capabilities. At a Glance can be argued to be very similar to Now Bar already, while Gemini Space could be comparable to Now Brief. We've now spotted new strings that corroborate our direction, albeit with a new feature called 'Daily Hub' that could exist within Gemini Space: Code Copy Text gemini_space_subzero Show a space for content and suggestions to simplify your day Daily Hub In the strings above, 'SmartSpace' is the codename for the Pixel-specific At a Glance implementation (not to be confused with the At a Glance widget that is part of the Google app and is available to all Android smartphones with the app installed). The Pixel-specific At a Glance implementation looks like a widget but cannot be removed from the Pixel Launcher, so it is a permanent addition to the home screen and lock screen. Further, 'subzero' appears to be the codename for the Daily Hub feature, which is described as a 'space for content and suggestions to simplify your day.' It sounds a lot like Samsung's Now Brief, and even surprisingly close to what the long-dead Google Now feature used to offer. Google Now It remains to be seen what direction Google ultimately takes for Gemini Space and its Daily Hub feature, but it's looking more likely to be similar in concept to Now Bar and Now Brief. Google could be planning its own take on Samsung's Now Bar — what we know
AI is becoming a part of every part of our phones, whether we realize it or not, and each new feature is just the beginning. One good example is Samsung's Now Bar, and it sounds like Google may have its own version in the pipeline — dubbed Gemini Space. This comes from Mishall Rahman over at Android Authority, who finds hints about the feature in the Android 16 QPR 1 beta 1 release. Apparently new files reference something called "Ambient Data", which is believed to be the internal code name for Gemini Space. Other strings refer to "Ambience Hub", "Ambient Display" and "Ambient AOD." That suggests Google is working on a feature that relies on contextual data, and is prepping it for a bunch of different devices and use-cases — including smart home hubs and devices with an Always on Display. Rahman believes that this could be the start of Google rebranding its existing "At a Glance" feature, in an attempt to offer something similar to the Now Bare and Now Brief features on the best Samsung phones. For those that don't know. Now Bar is a section of the lock screen that features real time information, which changes throughout the day depending on whatever contextual information the phone can pick up. At a Glance does do some of this, but it's not quite as easy to access. Shifting it to the lock screen, and adding extra features, could be one way for Google to offer comparable features for other Android phones to utilize. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Though Rahman does admit that he could be wrong, Gemini Space may end up being something entirely different. With limited information, we can't really make strong affirmations either way. But considering Google and Samsung do have a close relationship, especially with AI, it would be surprising if we didn't get something similar to the Now Bar at some point in the near future. We're just going to have to wait and see, though.
