High school roundup: Carthage claims boys lacrosse win against Immaculate Heart
May 7—WATERTOWN — Evan Dicob and Trent Gardner each scored three goals to pace the Carthage offense in a 10-1 victory over Immaculate Heart Central in Frontier League boys lacrosse Tuesday. Dicob also assisted on two goals for the Comets (4-6), who pulled away with four goals in the final quarter. Advertisement Michael Ventiquattro scored twice and contributed an assist for Carthage. Karson Cullen and Gavin Hall added a goal each. Conor Hickey stopped 14 shots in goal. Jameson Lettiere scored on an assist from Isaac Curtis for the Cavaliers (0-6). WATERTOWN 20, INDIAN RIVER 2 Jack Adams and Kage Loftus provided four goals and an assist each as the Cyclones struck for nine first-quarter goals en route to the Frontier League win over the Wolves in Watertown. Cooper Hunter finished with two goals and two assists for WHS (9-1), and Michael Lumbis had two goals and an assist. Jack Converse scored twice, and Owen McDonnell added a goal and two assists. High school roundup: General Brown volleyball sweeps Lowville to advance to "B" Division final
Jan. 31—DEXTER — The second-seeded General Brown girls volleyball team held serve on its home court and defeated third-seeded Lowville, 3-0, on Thursday night in a Frontier League "B" Division playoff semifinal. The Lions prevailed in straight sets, 25-21, 25-14 and 27-25 to sweep the Red Raiders. Alayna Richards tallied eight service points, 11 digs and six kills for General Brown (6-11), Haley Parker generated 17 service points, three aces, nine assists and four kills, and Maura Natali recorded nine service points, three aces and 22 digs. The Lions, who are the reigning league division playoff champions, advance to square off against top-seeded South Jefferson in the division final at noon Saturday at Jefferson Community College. Also at JCC, Watertown and Carthage will face off against one another in the "A" Division final at 10 a.m. and Beaver River will play Sandy Creek in the "C" Division final at 2 p.m. GIRLS BASKETBALL INDIAN RIVER 46, IMMACULATE HEART 31 Allison LaMora registered a double-double by supplying 13 points and hauling in 19 rebounds to pace a balanced effort as the Wolves outlasted the Cavaliers to win an "A-B" Division game played in Philadelphia. Keera LaLonde contributed nine points for Indian River (12-2, 10-1), and Kallie Delles totaled 10 rebounds. Abby Bombard generated a game-high 17 points to lead Immaculate Heart Central (7-7, 4-7). GENERAL BROWN 62, CARTHAGE 39 Brooke Wiley scored a team-high 22 points and also totaled six rebounds and seven assists, and Leah Ferris contributed 16 points and nine rebounds as the Lions cruised past the Comets to win an "A-B" Division game in Carthage. With the win, the Lions remained within a game of first-place Indian River in the race for the division's regular season title. POTSDAM 49, OFA 27 Ian VanWagner scored 16 of his game-high 21 points in the second half, setting a new Section 10 record in the process, to pace the Sandstoners past the Blue Devils to win a Northern Athletic Conference Central Division game at Ogdensburg Free Academy. HEUVELTON 83, EDWARDS-KNOX 45 Parker Felt and Jude Spooner generated 20 and 18 points, respectively, as the Bulldogs raced to victory against the Cougars to win an NAC West Division encounter. WRESTLING INDIAN RIVER 53, CAMDEN 16 Blake Bartlett won by technical fall in the 101-pound weight class to help propel the Wolves past the Blue Devils in a nonleague match in Camden. Kymah Gummow (116), Eli Faus (124), Tennison Eiss (145), Edniel Melendez-Aristud (170) and Brayden Christian (215) each won by pin for Indian River (10-7). Also for the Wolves, Tyson Schirmer (138) and Joshua Busanet (160) each won by decision. Gage Grilnell (131) won by major decision to lead Camden (6-8).
