Jason Price, who inspired 'Giving Back' drive, succumbs to cancer

Mar. 18—WATERTOWN — Jason R. Price, 41, who inspired a groundswell of local support in his battle with cancer, succumbed to the disease Friday morning. Local businesses, friends and associates rallied around Price. A Facebook page, "Standing With Jason Price: Local Businesses Giving Back" has 1,100 followers. It spread the word about benefit events and promotions local businesses created and hosted to aid Price Price, a 2001 graduate of General Brown High School, founded the Brew York Festival in Sackets Harbor. He was also co-founder of the Rock Out Childhood Cancer Foundation. He worked as chef and manager at Maggie's on the River and later managed and was a chef at Ruby Tuesday in Watertown and Good Fellos in Sackets Harbor. On Saturday, Price's family posted an update on the "Support Jason Price" GoFundMe page: "Jason passed peacefully after a nearly three year courageous battle with cancer. The battle would not have been possible without the seemingly unlimited amount of financial, emotional, physical, and spiritual support shown to him over those three years. The way our friends, family, and community have shown up for our beloved Jay has been astounding and humbling. We are so grateful." Also, "At the request of numerous organizations so generously offering fundraising efforts as of late, we will keep the Go Fund Me up for a short period of time to allow those to finalize and take place. All remaining proceeds will go toward alleviating financial burden in making his final arrangements, and to the sons he adored so very much, Caleb and Carter. Calling hours for Price are 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home, 237 William St., Dexter. A celebration of life will follow at Dexter American Legion, 105 E. Bronson St. "Let his memory serve as a reminder to us all to live big and love hard," the GoFundMe update concludes. The Johnson Funeral Home obituary for Price can be found at
