Jason Price, who inspired 'Giving Back' drive, succumbs to cancer

Yahoo18-03-2025

Mar. 18—WATERTOWN — Jason R. Price, 41, who inspired a groundswell of local support in his battle with cancer, succumbed to the disease Friday morning.
Local businesses, friends and associates rallied around Price. A Facebook page, "Standing With Jason Price: Local Businesses Giving Back" has 1,100 followers. It spread the word about benefit events and promotions local businesses created and hosted to aid Price
Price, a 2001 graduate of General Brown High School, founded the Brew York Festival in Sackets Harbor. He was also co-founder of the Rock Out Childhood Cancer Foundation. He worked as chef and manager at Maggie's on the River and later managed and was a chef at Ruby Tuesday in Watertown and Good Fellos in Sackets Harbor.
On Saturday, Price's family posted an update on the "Support Jason Price" GoFundMe page: "Jason passed peacefully after a nearly three year courageous battle with cancer. The battle would not have been possible without the seemingly unlimited amount of financial, emotional, physical, and spiritual support shown to him over those three years. The way our friends, family, and community have shown up for our beloved Jay has been astounding and humbling. We are so grateful."
Also, "At the request of numerous organizations so generously offering fundraising efforts as of late, we will keep the Go Fund Me up for a short period of time to allow those to finalize and take place. All remaining proceeds will go toward alleviating financial burden in making his final arrangements, and to the sons he adored so very much, Caleb and Carter.
Calling hours for Price are 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home, 237 William St., Dexter. A celebration of life will follow at Dexter American Legion, 105 E. Bronson St. "Let his memory serve as a reminder to us all to live big and love hard," the GoFundMe update concludes.

Iowa football hires former NFL exec as revenue sharing arrives

Iowa football hires former NFL exec as revenue sharing arrives Iowa hired former Chiefs GM/Patriots executive Scott Pioli as preparation for revenue sharing and will continue to work with all of Iowa's programs. Pioli has been at Iowa's football practices previously and is close with football coach Kirk Ferentz. — Scott Dochterman (@ScottDochterman) June 9, 2025 The world of college sports has officially changed, and in a hugely seismic way. The era of revenue sharing, where schools can directly pay players, is upon us and will change the way that college sports look moving forward. Schools can be accepting of this or get left behind. The Iowa Hawkeyes are ahead of the curve and are making moves to position themselves for success in this new world. The Hawkeyes have dug into the NFL world of executives with an understanding of operating in this world. To help their athletic programs, Iowa has hired Scott Pioli, the former Kansas City Chiefs general manager and New England Patriots executive, to prepare for revenue sharing, as reported by Scott Dochterman of The Athletic. The move brings Pioli into the fold with Iowa football head coach Kirk Ferentz, with whom he is close. Piolo joins Iowa after most recently being the Atlanta Falcons' assistant general manager from 2014-2019. Scott Pioli brings a mountain of experience in his career, as he has been in the NFL since 1992 in a multitude of roles, from scouting to player personnel to the front office. Before that, Pioli coached in college from 1988 to 1991 with stops at Syracuse and Murray State. A three-time Super Bowl champion in the NFL, Scott Pioli has been named the PWFA Executive of the Year three times (2003, 2007, 2010) and the Sporting News NFL Executive of the Year twice (2003, 2004). Energy boss' claim against publisher thrown out

Dale Vince's High Court claim against a newspaper publisher has been thrown out. Mr Vince, industrialist and founder of Stroud-based energy firm, Ecotricity, brought legal action against Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL) over a Daily Mail article headlined "Labour repays £100,000 to sex pest donor", published in June 2023. The story said Labour was handing back money to donor Davide Serra with a picture showing Mr Vince holding a Just Stop Oil banner. Mr Vince claimed ANL misused his personal data, but the judge said it should have been heard with the defamation claim in July 2024 as "any ordinary reader would very quickly realise Mr Vince was not being accused of sexual harassment". More news stories for Gloucestershire Listen to the latest news for Gloucestershire An employment tribunal in 2022 heard Mr Serra had made sexist comments to a female colleague which were found to amount to unlawful harassment related to sex. The original picture remained in print but was changed on The Mail+ app to one of Mr Serra 47 minutes after publication. ANL had defended the claim and its lawyers previously told the High Court in London it was an abuse of process and a "resurrection" of a libel claim that was dismissed last year. Mr Justice Swift said at the High Court on Monday: "There is no real prospect that Mr Vince will succeed on his claim. "As in the defamation proceedings, it is accepted that on reading the text of the article published in Mail+ and the Daily Mail any ordinary reader would very quickly realise that Mr Vince was not being accused of sexual harassment. "Considered on this basis the personal data relating to Mr Vince was processed fairly." He said there was "every reason" why the data protection claim should have been heard with the defamation claim last year. Following the decision, Mr Vince said he planned to appeal and the relevant media law "predates the internet". He said: "The judge said if you read the whole story, you'd realise the headline was not about me, begging the question why was my face highlighted in the articles perhaps. "But more importantly, people don't read entire articles, the law assumes it - but does so wrongly, against all data and against common sense."
