The world of college sports has officially changed, and in a hugely seismic way. The era of revenue sharing, where schools can directly pay players, is upon us and will change the way that college sports look moving forward.
Schools can be accepting of this or get left behind. The Iowa Hawkeyes are ahead of the curve and are making moves to position themselves for success in this new world. The Hawkeyes have dug into the NFL world of executives with an understanding of operating in this world.
To help their athletic programs, Iowa has hired Scott Pioli, the former Kansas City Chiefs general manager and New England Patriots executive, to prepare for revenue sharing, as reported by Scott Dochterman of The Athletic.
The move brings Pioli into the fold with Iowa football head coach Kirk Ferentz, with whom he is close. Piolo joins Iowa after most recently being the Atlanta Falcons' assistant general manager from 2014-2019.
Scott Pioli brings a mountain of experience in his career, as he has been in the NFL since 1992 in a multitude of roles, from scouting to player personnel to the front office. Before that, Pioli coached in college from 1988 to 1991 with stops at Syracuse and Murray State.
A three-time Super Bowl champion in the NFL, Scott Pioli has been named the PWFA Executive of the Year three times (2003, 2007, 2010) and the Sporting News NFL Executive of the Year twice (2003, 2004).

Drake Maye: Stefon Diggs seems like an awesome teammate
The Patriots added Stefon Diggs this offseason with the thought that the veteran receiver will help elevate an offense quarterbacked by Drake Maye. While Diggs is still recovering from tearing his ACL midway through the 2024 season, he's been in the building and has done some on-field work over the last couple of weeks. Maye said on Monday that the budding partnership between QB and WR is going well. 'Yeah, he seems like an awesome teammate,' Maye said in his press conference, via transcript from the team. 'He's my locker mate, one down from beside me. We talk all the time. He's a veteran in this league. He's made a lot of plays, played in a lot of big-time games. Just an awesome voice for the receiver room, for this offense. He's played in some playoff games. He's had some big games. 'Once he recovers, and he's getting back out there, I'm looking forward to being able to throw him some footballs. It's always good having a guy like that on your team.' Maye added that he's been able to see some of Diggs' work ethic in action. 'In the meetings, [he's] asking questions, asking me after plays, 'Hey, what should I have done there? Hey, in the past, I've done this when the guy's playing this leverage,' stuff like that,' Maye said. 'He's seen a lot of different things, played a long time in this league. It's been great for me. A veteran receiver, him, Mack [Hollins], Kendrick Bourne. We got three, not really old heads, but old heads in their 30s. It's been awesome for us to find how they lead the room and help this offense.' Last season, Diggs caught 47 passes for 496 yards with three touchdowns in eight games for Houston.

However, New York might have found itself a huge steal in landing Justin Fields. Fields went 4-2 while running the offense for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024. He was replaced by Russell Wilson, who took over and led the team to a playoff berth and a first-round exit. Still, while Mike Tomlin chose to use Wilson, Fields proved that he can lead a team. The Jets also have some young and dynamic playmakers in Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall, Allen Lazard, and Mason Taylor. On paper, the Jets are a more improved team, but time will tell if they can truly climb out of the basement of the AFC. World Cup host city organizers acknowledge immigration crackdown may impact next year's tournament
NEW YORK (AP) — Philadelphia's host city executive for the 2026 World Cup says organizers accept that an immigration crackdown by President Donald Trump's administration may be among the outside events that impact next year's tournament. 'There are certainly things that are happening at the national level, the international level, there are going to be geopolitical issues that we don't even know right now that are going affect the tournament next year, so we recognize that we're planning within uncertainty,' Meg Kane said Monday at a gathering of the 11 U.S. host city leaders, one year and two days ahead of the tournament opener. The World Cup will be played at 16 stadiums in the U.S., Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19 next year, a tournament expanded to 48 nations and 104 games. All matches from the quarterfinals on will be in the U.S., with the final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. 'Whether it's the Olympics, whether it's a World Cup, whether it's a Super Bowl, you name it, anytime you've got a major international sporting event, geopolitics is going to have a role,' said Alex Vasry, CEO of the New York/New Jersey host committee. Kane said the host committees must adapt to decisions made by others. 'One of the things that I think we all recognize is that we have to be really good at operating within that uncertainty,' Kane said. 'I think for each of our cities, we want to be prepared to make any person that is coming and makes the decision to come to the United States or come to this World Cup feel that they are welcome. We do not play a role necessarily in what is happening in terms of the decisions that are made.' Trump's travel ban on citizens from 12 countries exempted athletes, coaches, staff and relatives while not mentioning fans. 'We allow for FIFA to continue having constructive conversations with the administrations around visas, around workforce, around tourism,' Kane said. FIFA is running the World Cup for the first time without a local organizing committee in the host nation. Asked in late April whether FIFA president Gianni Infantino was available to discuss the tournament, FIFA director of media relations Bryan Swanson forwarded the request to a member of the media relations staff, who did not make Infantino available.
