Jordan's energy minister assures citizens of stable power supply
Jordan's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Kharabsheh, told members of the Energy Sector Partnership Council that the country's electricity system remains stable and secure despite the suspension of natural gas supplies amid ongoing regional tensions.
Speaking during a council meeting to discuss regulations stemming from the newly enacted General Electricity Law No. 10 of 2025, Kharabsheh acknowledged the growing geopolitical challenges facing the region.
He emphasized that Jordan has activated contingency plans to ensure uninterrupted power generation, noting the critical role local energy sources have played in maintaining grid reliability.
Jordan typically imports around 100 million cubic feet of natural gas daily from Egypt.
However, due to the current crisis, the government is shouldering additional costs to sustain the power supply, according to Kharabsheh.
