Federation of Chambers of Commerce appreciates UN's call to keep Yemeni Private Sector free from any classifications

Sana'a – SABA: The General Federation of Yemeni Chambers of Commerce and Industry has expressed its appreciation for the statements made by the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, calling for the exclusion of the Yemeni private sector from any measures or classifications that could negatively impact the national economy. In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), the Federation urged all international organizations to intensify their efforts in this regard and called on the U.S. Treasury Department to reconsider its recent classifications. These included placing the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, businessman Ali Mohammed Al-Hadi, on the sanctions list, a decision that could have severe humanitarian and economic consequences for Yemen. During a press conference, the UN Secretary-General's spokesperson warned against any obstruction to the flow of commercial goods into Yemen, emphasizing that such actions—stemming from the U.S. Treasury's classification—could lead to catastrophic consequences. He also highlighted the crucial role of the Yemeni private sector in meeting humanitarian needs and stressed the importance of keeping the private sector free from any measures or classifications that could harm the national economy. Federation of Chambers of Commerce rejects US sanctions on Yemeni businessmen

Sana'a – SABA: The General Federation of Yemeni Chambers of Commerce and Industry issued a statement condemning the US sanctions imposed on some Yemeni businessmen, the latest of which is the head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Sanaa City, Ali Muhammad Al-Hadi. The statement stressed that Yemeni businessmen are neutral from conflicts, following the March 31, 2016 declaration on the neutrality of the private sector in Yemen. He also rejected the charges against Al-Hadi, stressing that they "lack evidence", and that his appointment was made by Law No. (28) of 2003 after the end of the term of the previous council. The Union explained that Ali Al-Hadi's foreign visits, including his visit to Moscow, were for purely economic purposes to secure the Yemeni market's needs of wheat, without any political goals or official meetings with Russian officials. These sanctions "exacerbate the economic and humanitarian crisis" in Yemen, where 90% of basic needs depend on imports. He also stressed that Ali Al-Hadi is a major supplier of basic food commodities, such as wheat, flour, sugar and rice. The General Federation of Chambers of Commerce called on the US administration to reconsider the sanctions and remove Ali Mohammed Al-Hadi's name from the list, warning of the catastrophic effects of these decisions on the Yemeni people.
