Federation of Chambers of Commerce rejects US sanctions on Yemeni businessmen
Sana'a – SABA:
The General Federation of Yemeni Chambers of Commerce and Industry issued a statement condemning the US sanctions imposed on some Yemeni businessmen, the latest of which is the head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Sanaa City, Ali Muhammad Al-Hadi.
The statement stressed that Yemeni businessmen are neutral from conflicts, following the March 31, 2016 declaration on the neutrality of the private sector in Yemen. He also rejected the charges against Al-Hadi, stressing that they "lack evidence", and that his appointment was made by Law No. (28) of 2003 after the end of the term of the previous council.
The Union explained that Ali Al-Hadi's foreign visits, including his visit to Moscow, were for purely economic purposes to secure the Yemeni market's needs of wheat, without any political goals or official meetings with Russian officials.
These sanctions "exacerbate the economic and humanitarian crisis" in Yemen, where 90% of basic needs depend on imports. He also stressed that Ali Al-Hadi is a major supplier of basic food commodities, such as wheat, flour, sugar and rice.
The General Federation of Chambers of Commerce called on the US administration to reconsider the sanctions and remove Ali Mohammed Al-Hadi's name from the list, warning of the catastrophic effects of these decisions on the Yemeni people.

Yemen : Houthis Launch Arrest Campaign in Sana'a over Use of "Starlink" Internet
Sana'a – June 11, 2025 The Houthi group has carried out a wave of arrests targeting dozens of civilians in the Yemeni capital, Sana'a, over the use of "Starlink" satellite internet devices, according to local human rights sources. Reports indicate that at least 54 people, including electronics shop owners, university students, and academics, were detained during raids across several districts such as Al-Sabeen, Ma'een, and Azal. The campaign also involved extensive searches and seizures of electronic equipment and the imposition of hefty fines on citizens. A human rights activist in Sana'a—speaking on condition of anonymity—stated that 'the Houthis aim to fully monopolize the communications sector and suppress any means of accessing the internet beyond their control.' In a controversial move, students and professors at the Faculty of Computer Science at Sana'a University were forced to attend events warning against the 'dangers of satellite internet,' a step that observers say violates academic freedom and amounts to a form of censorship. International and local human rights organizations have called for the immediate release of the detainees and the end of what they've described as a 'repressive campaign,' labeling the measures a blatant violation of human rights and freedom of expression. It's worth noting that satellite internet services like "Starlink" have gained popularity in regions suffering from poor connectivity or monopolized internet access, offering a vital lifeline for residents to stay connected with the outside world.

Putin: Nuclear Triad remains main guarantor of Russia's sovereignty
Moscow - Saba: Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that the nuclear triad will remain the guarantor of Russia's sovereignty, noting that it plays a pivotal role in ensuring the balance of power in the world. According to Sputnik, Putin added during a meeting on the government's arms program: "Special attention must be paid to the nuclear triad (i.e., the three military vehicles carrying nuclear weapons: strategic bombers, land-based ballistic missiles, and submarine-launched ballistic missiles), which has been and remains the guarantor of Russia's sovereignty and plays a key role in ensuring the balance of power in the world." Putin explained that the share of modern weapons in Russia's strategic nuclear forces is 95%, the highest percentage among all nuclear powers in the world. Putin indicated that the focus of the new government arms program should be on developing the most modern weapons systems, saying: "It is also clear that the focus of the new government program should be on creating the most modern weapons systems." He added, "In April of this year (2025), we discussed how to increase the volume of supplies and improve the efficiency of using weapons and equipment to solve the tasks of the special military operation. The measures identified then are being implemented." He continued, "However, these measures, in essence, are operational in nature and are being implemented as soon as possible, in real time, based on current needs." He added, "Today we will begin a series of traditional special working meetings, during which we will analyze the main parameters of the upcoming state armament program." Putin called for strengthening the combat capabilities of the Russian Ground Forces as quickly as possible and creating a reserve for their development. Putin emphasized the need for Russia to take into account global trends in the development of military technologies, noting the growing number of countries actively working in this direction. Earlier in the day, Sergei Ryabkov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, stated that Russia's nuclear deterrent capability was not affected by the Ukrainian drone attack on Russian military airfields. President congratulates Russian counterpart
Sana'a - Saba: President of the Supreme Political Council Mahdi al-Mashat on Wednesday sent a congratulatory cable to President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on the occasion of the friendly Russian people's celebration of Sovereignty Day. The cable read: As your friendly people celebrate Sovereignty Day, I am pleased to extend to Your Excellency my warmest congratulations, along with my cordial wishes for good health, happiness, and further development for your friendly country. As your friendly people celebrate Sovereignty Day, it gives me great pleasure to extend to Your Excellency my warmest congratulations, along with my sincere wishes for your continued health and happiness, and for further growth and prosperity for your friendly country. The Russian role is highly regarded and relied upon in restoring global balance and curbing the blind imperialism that seeks to dominate the sovereignty of nations and interfere in their internal affairs to control the wealth of peoples. We hope that Russia's future role will further promote global peace and stability for all societies and nations—foremost among them the Palestinian cause, as the Palestinian people face genocide at the hands of the brutal Zionist machine, under the cover of American imperialism. Such actions stand in stark violation of all international covenants and agreements. We would like to take this opportunity to reaffirm our country's keenness to deepen the bonds of friendship with your nation in all fields, in a manner that enhances both regional and international security and stability.
