Dog dead after early morning disturbance in Kitchener

(Sidra Jafri/CTV News) Waterloo Regional Police are investigating after a disturbance in Kitchener early Saturday morning left one dog dead. Officers responded to reports of an altercation involving several people around 4:40 a.m. in the area of Charles Street East and Cedar Street South. Police say during the incident, one dog attacked another near a bus stop. A short time later, officers were called to King Street East and Eby Street North, where a dog was found dead. The investigation is being handled by the service's General Investigations Unit.

Social Sharing Police are investigating a disturbance that resulted in the death of a dog in downtown Kitchener on Saturday. Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) were called just before 5 a.m. for reports of an altercation at a bus stop near Charles Street South and Cedar Street East, WRPS said in a release Sunday. Police say that when officers arrived they found several people and an injured dog in the area. Initial reports describe an altercation between several people where a dog attacked anther dog, police say. Officers were then called to a second location at King Street East and Eby Street North, near the Kitchener Market, where police say they found a dead dog. The WRPS' General investigations unit is investigating. Police ask anyone with information to call WRPS' non-emergency line or to leave an anonymous tip with Waterloo Region Crime Stoppers.

Police investigating stabbing in Kitchener that sent one man to hospital

Waterloo Regional Police are investigating a stabbing that sent a 21-year-old Cambridge man to hospital Friday night. Officers were called to a residence in Kitchener near Madeline Street and Maitland Street around 9:10 p.m. following reports of a stabbing. The victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police believe the incident was isolated and say the victim and suspect are known to each other. Investigators say there is no threat to public safety. The investigation is ongoing and being handled by the General Investigations Unit. Anyone with information is asked to contact Waterloo Regional Police at 519-570-9777 ext. 6370. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Lenoir County man sentenced to prison for identity theft and larceny

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) — A Lenoir County man pled guilty today to larceny and identity theft charges and will spend the next few years in prison before being extradited to Georgia. Michael Bridwell, 41, received prison sentences of 16 to 29 months after pleading guilty for larceny and obtaining property for false pretenses and 20 to 33 months for identity theft today. The sentences will be served consecutively; he will be extradited to Georgia after his time is served in North Carolina. On Jan. 8, the LCSO posted on its Facebook pages to request assistance from the community in identifying a vehicle involved with the theft of a wheelchair ramp from Rivermont Baptist Church Through many tips and leads received by the LCSO's General Investigations Unit, Bridwell was identified as the culprit. He was charged with felony larceny, possession of stolen property and conspiracy to obtain property by false pretenses. Bridwell was arrested Dec. 28 by Lenoir County Sheriff's Office deputies for an arrest warrant out of Georgia. He gave a false name and date of birth to deputies in an attempt to avoid extradition and prosecution. Bridwell was soon identified and taken into custody for identity theft, as well as for the out-of-state warrant. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
