Genesis G90 Stuns With Striking Coupe and Convertible Concepts
Genesis has revealed two breathtaking new design studies — the X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible — during an official presentation in South Korea. These stunning concepts, rooted in the 2025 Genesis G90 flagship sedan, continue the brand's tradition of crafting eye-catching luxury showpieces that spark imagination more than mass production plans. Much like Cadillac's approach to its concept cars, Genesis has become known for pushing design boundaries, even if these efforts rarely make it to dealership floors. The new X Gran Coupe and Convertible serve as spiritual successors to the highly praised Genesis X and X Convertible revealed in 2021 and 2022. Though equally jaw-dropping and seemingly ready for the road, these latest models are design statements — visual explorations rather than production commitments. They represent what Genesis refers to as a 'moment of reflection,' a creative pause from the Hyundai-owned luxury marque. Both models debuted at the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show, sharing the stage with the updated 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 6 and the brand-new Nexo hydrogen crossover. Clearly derived from the underpinnings of the 2025 Genesis G90, the Gran Coupe and Gran Convertible swap out the four-door format for sleeker, sportier profiles. In the case of the convertible, all press imagery shows the vehicle with the top down, though it's understood that a soft fabric roof is tucked into the rear. Visually, these concepts wouldn't feel out of place among the elite — they carry the elegance and presence seen in models like the Bentley Continental GT and GTC, or the Lexus LC and LC Convertible. In addition to their dramatic exteriors, the cabins also receive a bespoke treatment. The Gran Coupe interior draws inspiration from Mediterranean olive trees, featuring green tones and matching leather upholstery. Meanwhile, the Gran Convertible's cabin embraces deep blue hues that pay homage to the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes of Livorno, Italy. Since its establishment as an independent luxury brand a decade ago, Genesis has sold over 1.3 million vehicles globally. The lineup is predominantly composed of sedans and SUVs, although niche variants like the G70 Shooting Brake have appeared in select regions such as Europe. For Genesis to stand shoulder to shoulder with German powerhouses like Mercedes-Benz and BMW, it must continue elevating its brand image with bold, aspirational designs. While coupes and convertibles may not move high volumes, the presence of a flagship halo model could draw more attention — and customers — to Genesis showrooms, even if most buyers end up choosing models like the GV70. Hyundai, with its considerable financial resources, can afford to pursue such ambitious styling exercises without expecting immediate returns. If Genesis has its sights set on rivaling luxury tourers like the BMW 8 Series, these concept vehicles mark a compelling step in that direction. Still, the transition from concept to production involves steep challenges — from R&D and tooling to managing limited demand for two-door vehicles in today's SUV-dominated market. Until those hurdles are cleared, enthusiasts can continue to admire these Genesis G90-based concepts for what they are — bold expressions of design, and powerful symbols of where Genesis might be headed.

Genesis X Gran Concepts Ditch Doors and Bring Bold Interiors
Genesis is showing the G90-based X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible at the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show. These two concepts feature significant modifications from the standard, four-door Genesis G90 sedan. The Genesis Design team studied the olive tree for inspiration for the X Gran Coupe concept and wine for the X Gran Convertible. If you thought the oversized, personal-luxury coupes and convertibles were going away, the folks at Genesis might have something to change your mind at the Seoul Mobility Show. The X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible lean on the long history of luxe two-door coupe and convertible land yachts. These two concept cars might both be based on the Genesis G90, but they sport significant changes from their series production counterpart. Kicking it off, the X Gran Convertible's biggest change from the standard G90 is hard to miss. The cloth folding top is lower than the traditional G90 and works with an extended beltline. Alongside the altered silhouette and folding top, the X Gran Convertible sports two fewer doors, widened fenders, and a finish that takes inspiration from fine wine grapes. The convertible's fixed-top counterpart features many of the same changes. The X Gran Coupe also gets wider fenders, two fewer doors, and a lowered roofline, but the X Gran Coupe is exactly that: a fixed-top machine. Taking inspiration from the olive tree, this X Gran Coupe is finished in deep green. Inside this upscale coupe concept, you'll find a quilted leather headliner, leather tanned from wastewater from an olive manufacturing facility, and microperforated olive wood that makes an olive-themed atmosphere lighting array. While these concepts look ready for a trip to your favorite Michelin-star restaurant, there is one minor hitch: they're just concepts. Considering market trends, with BMW and Mercedes-Benz both rethinking the personal luxury cruiser, it's doubtful that Genesis will turn these loose to the wild. That said, the next-generation G90 offering a two-door variant now has a longshot chance of joining the roadway. Regardless, these two concept cars are not currently slated for the assembly line. If you're in Seoul, you can see them in the flesh at the Seoul Mobility Show April 4 to 13. Do you think Genesis should add the X Gran Coupe or X Gran Convertible to its portfolio? View Interior Photos of the 2025 Lexus LS500 F Sport
Read the full review The Lexus LS500 F Sport's maximalist exterior design spills over to its interior, which features perhaps too many design flourishes. Scalloped door panels and swoopy dashboard elements feel like too much inside the LS's cabin. Our test vehicle came with a black and white two-tone leather upholstery, which didn't exactly scream subtlety either. Material quality is good, but the Lexus lacks many features that its key rival, the Genesis G90, offers as standard. Rear-seat legroom is good, but our test car didn't offer heated rear seats, rear-seat climate controls, or a massage function. Interior tech is also behind the times, but at least the LS's touchscreen infotainment system is intuitive and easy to use. The F Sport treatment comes with many reminders, including logos on the seats, the steering wheel, and the door jambs. That carbon-fiber pattern on the face of the dashboard clock is also unique to the F Sport model. A floating center console features a bank of buttons for the heated front seats, heated steering wheel, and rear sunshade, but we would have liked more space for storage. The optional panoramic sunroof is bisected by a panel that houses ceiling-mounted speakers for the als0-optional Mark Levinson Reference stereo system. The cabin is overall quiet and comfortable, but the Lexus's rivals have it outgunned on pure luxury. Keep going to check out even more pictures of the LS500's cabin.
