'Tastefully Yours' star Go Min Si in hot water over school bullying accusations
Go Min Si was riding high on the success of Tastefully Yours when school bullying claims arose, casting a shadow over her promising career. Once hailed as a breakout star in the romantic comedy genre, the K-drama actor is now facing increased scrutiny just as she is gaining traction. The Genie TV original drama marks a watershed moment for the actress. Her portrayal of Mo Yeon Joo, a fine-dining chef following her culinary dreams in Jeonju, received high appreciation for its emotional depth and authenticity. The series was a global success, topping Netflix charts in 17 countries and reaching the platform's Global Top 10 for non-English shows. Go Min Si in hot water In fact, much of Tastefully Yours' appeal was attributed to Go Min Si's outstanding performance and chemistry with co-star Kang Ha Neul. However, all the praises and celebrations were cut short on May 26 when a lengthy post surfaced in an online forum accusing her of school bullying during her middle school years. The claims included extortion, verbal abuse, social exclusion of classmates, especially those with disabilities, and a lack of accountability in the years since. The post also called her out for pursuing her career without addressing the alleged accusations, alleging she dismissed them as "minor mistakes." Go Min Si's agency responds Her agency, Mystic Story, immediately responded, calling the allegations "completely baseless" and offering unwavering support for the actress. Nonetheless, the public reaction has been divided, with some calling for more explanation and others questioning the timing and nature of the charges. The debate comes at a particularly sensitive time. With her name now associated with critical and commercial success, Go Min Si's growing career could be destroyed. As the Korean industry pays close attention, how she and her agency handle the incident may determine whether her upward trajectory continues—or stalls under the weight of previous claims.

'Tastefully Yours' to bring in classic K-drama romance, Tom-and-Jerry dynamics
'Sweet Home,' 'The Frog' star Go Min-si steps into lighter territory with first romantic comedy Genie TV's upcoming drama, "Tastefully Yours," starring veteran Korean actors Go Min-si and Kang Ha-neul is set to channel a playful dynamic reminiscent of Tom and Jerry through the lens of a modern-day romantic comedy. The 10-part series follows Beom-woo (Kang Ha-neul), a chaebol scion determined to secure his inheritance by acquiring small restaurants. His strategic spree leads him to cross paths with Mo Yeon-joo (Go Min-si), a fiercely independent chef who runs a one-table restaurant and refuses to be bought out. Go, who gained recognition for her intense roles in projects such as "Sweet Home" and "The Frog," takes a sharp turn into lighter territory with "Tastefully Yours." Despite the tonal shift, she revealed that the production came with its own set of challenges. "To be honest, I chose this project because I wanted to film something fun and comfortable, but there turned out to be a lot more to do than I expected," said Go during a press conference held in Mapo-gu, Seoul, Thursday. "I had to learn how to cook, so I practiced even before filming and learned from the chefs who were on set. The dialect was also an important part, so I persistently asked questions and checked thoroughly as I prepared." The actress credited Kang with helping her find ease on set. 'It took me a long time to adjust during the early stages of filming, but whenever Kang was on the set, the atmosphere completely changed. He helped me feel comfortable when acting, and since he always made me laugh on the set, I realized I'm actually someone who laughs a lot,' she shared. 'Since it was my first romantic comedy, I came to the set with the feeling of going on a date with Kang.' Kang, widely loved for his natural charm and comedic sensibilities, said he leaned into his strengths to elevate the show's humorous tone. 'Since I've never lived as a chaebol in real life, it was a bit difficult. So rather than thinking too much like, 'Wouldn't a chaebol act this way?', I focused on bringing the script's tone to life in an entertaining way.' He added, 'In the early part of the story, I worked on using a condescending tone. I tried to find the right delivery to make it sound more dismissive." "Tastefully Yours," starting May 12, will air every Monday and Tuesday at 10 p.m. on ENA and will also be available for global audiences via Netflix.

KT pushes for full-scale AI integration in media value chain
South Korean telecommunication giant KT announced Wednesday its plan to ramp up its artificial intelligence strategy in the media sector, including introducing a new AI agent for its internet TV platform Genie TV an AI-powered content studio. With the goal of positioning its media business as one of its three core growth pillars, the company said it will invest 500 billion won ($370 million) by 2026. 'With global OTT giants rapidly dominating the content supply chain, there is growing concern that the broader content market could contract over time,' Kim Chae-hee, executive vice president of KT Media Group said at a press conference in Seoul, announcing a roadmap aimed at applying AI across the full spectrum of its media content business. While KT has been producing original content and creating synergy with its internet TV platform, Genie TV, Kim said the continuing costs and shifting viewer habits are pushing the company to change its strategy. 'Transformation is our media business is inevitable, and our 'new way' strategy will be driven by three key pillars: AI platforms, AI-powered content and business model innovation,' Kim said. As part of the AI platform strategy, KT said it will roll out a media-specialized AI agent on Genie TV, starting in the first half of this year, developed through its ongoing partnership with Microsoft. According to Kim, the company will introduce a Korean-customized version of ChatGPT-4o, transitioning the service from a basic voice recognition tool to a large language model enabling free-flowing, multi-turn conversations. KT also said it plans to launch AI Studio Lab, which will apply AI across the entire content lifecycle, from investment assessment using AI-driven success prediction tools and assisting scriptwriters and storyboarding to production and postproduction using AI for music, visual effects and editing. 'KT's approach is to integrate AI across the entire value chain, setting us apart from the others that apply AI to a few parts of the process,' said Shin Jong-soo, senior vice president of KT's Media Strategy Unit. Shin also said the company would introduce a new studio dedicated to producing short-form content powered by AI. 'In China, 100 percent AI-generated short-form content is already being produced, so we plan to take an aggressive approach to meet the global trend.' KT is also ramping up its intellectual property strategy with the launch of a new unit, dubbed Next IP Studio under KT Studio Genie. The studio will focus on developing IP-centered content, particularly short-form videos, distributed through Free Ad-Supported Streaming platforms. The IP content will also be recreated into various formats, including feature films and dramas. The company said it would open up its existing IPs to external platforms, moving away from previous distribution models limited to Genie TV and KT ENA. The company plans to license its content more broadly to both domestic and international OTT services. 'Relying solely on the domestic market limits our competitiveness, so we are beginning our expansion in the Asian market and are currently exploring remakes and co-productions with regional partners using our existing IPs,' Shin said. KT's strength came from owning the network infrastructure. But now, the company must compete on the merits of media itself, Kim said. 'This is a golden window of opportunity, and what we do now will determine our long-term success.'
