His son Neal also went on to be a pro, with the pair meeting at the last 32 stage of the 1986 International Open - and the younger man winning 5-0. Neal, who has gone on to work as a commentator for ITV following an accomplished career that saw him reach No3 in the world, has paid tribute to his late father. The 62-year-old said: "The whole family are heartbroken but touched by the support we have already received. "My dad was the driving force behind all of us and we are all immensely proud of him. "My own life in snooker is solely down to him with the guidance and advice only a loving father can give." Meanwhile, WPBSA Chairman Jason Ferguson added: "We are deeply saddened to learn of today's news and our thoughts are with Neal and the rest of the family at this time." Many fans have also paid tribute to Foulds. One wrote on social media: "Condolences to Neal Foulds and his family tonight. Geoff Foulds may you rest in peace. A prouder dad you will not have seen." While author Elliott West posted: "RIP Geoff Foulds. Geoff, the father of Neal Foulds was a very successful amateur player, first winning the London Championship in 1971 and then every year between 1975-1979." A third commented: "Saddened to hear of the passing of Geoff Foulds. Always had time to say hello and talk about the game. Quite simply a snooker man through and through."
