Commanders sign former Seahawks RT George Fant
A former Seattle Seahawk has found a new home. Early on Tuesday morning, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that right tackle George Fant will be signing with the Washington Commanders. Fant was a Seahawks from 2016-2019, and once again in 2024 - unfortunately, his season last year was marred by injuries and he was limited to only two games. Now, the Commanders will become his fourth NFL organization. Fant will reunite with former Seahawks teammates Bobby Wagner, Jacob Martin, Nick Bellore and even long snapper Tyler Ott. We often jokingly refer to the Commanders as the "other Washington" but these days it appears this statement is more fact than humor. Fant was a solid starter for the Seahawks, and would have been reliable depth behind Abe Lucas. Sadly, the aforementioned injuries sort of spoiled his second stint in Seattle. We at Seahawks Wire wish Fant the best of luck in our nation's capital city for the 2025 campaign. Fant will face his former team in Week 9 as the Seahawks and Commanders will face off on Sunday Night Football. The prime time showdown will be a double-throwback uniform game, as both Seattle and (this always feels a little awkward writing out) Washington will both be wearing their classic uniforms. Washington Commanders Free Agency: Veteran OT George Fant signed
The Washington Commanders brought in several players for tryouts last week, including veteran OT George Fant. The visit went well, and the two sides reportedly stayed in contact. Fant has now reportedly agreed to terms on a free agent deal. Fant(6'5', 315 lbs, 33 yo) has been in the NFL since the Seattle Seahawks signed him as an UDFA after the 2016 NFL draft. He joins an offensive line that continues to upgrade to protect second-year franchise QB Jayden Daniels. Laremy Tunsil is the LT after Washington traded for him, and they also drafted Josh Conerly Jr in the 1st round this year to move him to RT. Fant will get a week to show coaches what he's still got before cutdown day on August 26th at 4 p.m. ET.

Commanders work out a pair of veteran offensive tackles
The Washington Commanders have been busy this week. Over three weeks into training camp, the bumps and bruises have started to mount. Fortunately, the Commanders haven't dealt serious injuries, but their depth is being tested. This week, Washington has made several roster moves, including releasing a former draft pick. The Commanders also signed three defensive backs and a wide receiver. Washington is still looking for help. NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Commanders had worked out veteran offensive tackle George Fant, and the two sides will remain in contact. Fant, 33, is a nine-year veteran who has played in 101 career games with 75 starts. Fant spent his first four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, then three with the New York Jets, one year with the Houston Texans, before returning to Seattle in 2024. Fant wasn't the only veteran offensive lineman Washington brought to Ashburn for a visit. Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network said the Commanders worked out Cameron Fleming. Fleming, 32, is an 11-year pro with 118 games played and 62 starts. He began his career with the New England Patriots (2014-17), before spending two years with the Dallas Cowboys, one year with the New York Giants and the previous four seasons with the Denver Broncos. Like Fant, the Commanders are expected to remain in contact with Fleming. Left guard Brandon Coleman has missed some time recently and right guard Sam Cosmi is continuing his rehab after tearing his ACL in January. Cosmi is expected back earlier than expected, but Washington's depth is being tested in training camp. Laremy Tunsil and either rookie first-round pick Josh Conerly Jr. or Andrew Wylie are Washington's projected starting tackles. The Commanders have several tackles in camp, including Trent Scott, Bobby Hart, Tyre Phillips, and Foster Sarell, all vying for one spot. All have extensive NFL experience, with Scott and Sarell having guard/tackle flexibility like Wylie. Fant or Fleming could be a good depth signing if Washington goes that route. Wylie has lined up at tackle and guard throughout training camp. This article originally appeared on Commanders Wire: Commanders work out two veteran offensive tackles

The Buccaneers are investigating offensive linemen
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers received some bad news when they found out star left tackle Tristan Wirfs would be missing the season's debut, and potentially a decent chunk of time after that. Wirfs' inability to play will be leaving the Bucs with genuinely gigantic shoes to fill. The in-house next man up is Charlie Heck, resident swing tackle. Heck was signed earlier this offseason to fill the role filled by Justin Skule for the last two years. Tampa Bay appeared to be all systems go with Charlie Heck until reports surfaced today, that perhaps the team is lacking complete and utter confidence in their backup swing tackle— Bringing in George Fant, a veteran tackle, for a workout. Fant is an interesting potential pickup for Tampa. He has played in 69 career games for three separate franchises, giving him experience, if nothing else. Tristan Wirfs is arguably the team's best individual player on any given Sunday and the Buccaneers have no chance of replacing him with anyone who is already on their roster or currently on the free agent market to be added. For the Buccaneers, the key will not be replacing Wirfs, rather finding a way trend water and manage the situation until he returns. Would George Fant help Tampa stay afloat? Cowboys Free Agent Tryouts Include Starting Lineman And Playmaking Cornerback
Cowboys Free Agent Tryouts Include Starting Lineman And Playmaking Cornerback originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There is no reason to think this is indictment of young Dallas Cowboys left tackle Tyler Guyton or anybody else who just finished up minicamp as a member of the O-line room. Advertisement But Dallas is giving a tryout to a veteran blocker ... and he's a known commodity. Among the group of players working out with the Cowboys this week is offensive tackle George Fant, who turns 33 this summer. The 6-5, 320-pound Fant - who has started 75 games throughout his decade-long career - has a familiarity with this coaching staff ... Making that the driving force for the workout. Fant played for the New York Jets for three seasons with 2020-2022 and was a team captain there. Present Dallas D-line coach Aaron Whitecotton was on that staff, so there's a semi-connection. A greater one? Fant was undrafted when he came into the NFL in 2016, a converted basketball player who was initially a prospect at tight end ... but who successfully made the switch to O-line with his new employers ... Advertisement The Seattle Seahawks. And by 2018, the offensive coordinator of the Seahawks was ... Brian Schottenheimer, now Dallas' first-year head coach. The plan remains for Terence Steele to be at right tackle and for 2024 first-rounder Guyton to be the left tackle ... and Dak Prescott has endorsed the progress of the latter. 'Guyton's made a huge step, and it's in the mentals,' Prescott said. 'It's in his approach, it's in his preparation, it's in the way that he's taking care of his body working out and practicing so not going to be surprised with the jump that he makes this year because I've watched every step in the process that he's put into this and excited for him.' Advertisement That's more like it. With Guyton and Tyler Booker, Dallas' last two first-round picks, to go with young All-Pro Tyler Smith, second-year center Cooper Beebe, and a rejuvenated Steele, Dak's front five appears, on paper, to be in good shape. But checking in on. vet can make sense ... especially if the coaching staff already has a feel for him. Meanwhile, also getting Dallas tryouts are: Perrion Winfrey, 24, an All-UFL defensive tackle (who played under Whitecotton with the Jets); defensive tackle DeVere Levelston, 24, a native of DeSoto, Texas, who started his career as an undrafted free agent with the Seahawks; Robert Rochell, 27, a cornerback who is a former fourth-round pick of the Los Angeles Rams and who played last year with the Kansas City Chiefs; and Jerry Jacobs, 27, who was for a short time a Detroit Lions starter who in 2023 grabbed two interceptions in one game against Green Bay.
