Dayak associations asked to elevate efforts to protect, preserve culture and traditions

In making this call, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu this is vital for the dignity of their communities. 'Support each other's programmes and activities, particularly in showcasing our cultures and identity. When you promote all these, Sarawak will progress and prosper moving forward,' he said at the Iban Gawai Night for the Gawai Dayak Bazaar (GDB) 2025 at MJC Batu Kawa here last night. The Layar assemblyman also invited the public to attend the State Gawai Dayak Open House will be held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching Convention (BCCK) on June 1. He said the open house will be hosted by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas. Rentap also pointed out that on June 7, a grand joint Gawai Dayak-Kaamatan celebration will be held in Betong. Tonight, the Orang Ulu community will hold the Orang Ulu Gawai Night at GDB 2025, with Telang Usan assemblyman Datuk Dennis Ngau scheduled to officiate. GDB 2025 will end on Sunday. TVET skills key to youth success in Sarawak's future industries, says Rentap

SIBU (April 26): Vocational college students have been urged to fully embrace opportunities in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to secure a stronger future, in line with Sarawak's development agenda. In giving this advice, State Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu said the state government is actively implementing strategic initiatives across emerging sectors such as hydrogen energy technology, smart transportation, and aerospace industry, offering vast opportunities to Sarawak's youth. 'TVET is not just about acquiring technical skills; it is a ticket to a stable career and promising income,' he said when officiating the Madani Unity Open House and launch of the Kolej Vokasional Sibu Golden Jubilee celebration, held at the college hall today. Adding on, the Layar assemblyman stressed the importance of steering clear of laziness, describing it as the 'main enemy of mankind'. 'Success does not come without effort and skills,' he said. In this regard, Rentap urged students to fully utilise the skills acquired at college to attract employers and boost their self-confidence. 'In today's fast-evolving technological landscape, particularly with the rise of artificial intelligence, students must equip themselves not only with theoretical knowledge but also practical experience and the ability to evaluate information and make sound decisions.' On the Golden Jubilee celebration, Rentap acknowledged the pivotal role of the institution over the past five decades in producing thousands of highly skilled alumni. 'Kolej Vokasional Sibu is one of the key institutions contributing to the development of a skilled workforce in Sarawak. 'I hope all educators and students will continue striving for even greater success,' added the deputy minister. PENAMPANG: Sabah and Sarawak should strengthen ties in cultural tourism to showcase Borneo's shared heritage, said Sabah Assistant Minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai. He emphasized promoting Borneo as a seamless travel experience through cultural trails and community-based attractions. Joniston suggested both states collaborate on cultural preservation, community development, and cross-border initiatives, turning heritage into economic opportunity, especially in rural areas. Sarawak's Deputy Minister Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu echoed the sentiment, advocating for more frequent exchanges and joint cultural events, including a proposed Cultural Festival in June.
